1 -- The oven handle stays cool, 2 -- I do not hear a popping sound, 3-- I turned on the wrong element and melted a foam plate on it, therefore I had to use a metal scrapper, it did not scratch it.

Hello Netta- This is Lisa from GE. I will be happy to help. It is normal to hear the temperature control click on and off during baking, broiling and self-cleaning cycles. Cracking and popping sounds caused by the heating and cooling of metal during the cooking or cleaning functions are considered normal. It is simply the expansion and contraction of the metal.
The handle can get warm, but shouldn't be hot.
Your cooktop should not scratch if you use the proper cookware:
Flat Bottom pans are essential for good cooking performance since the bottom of the pan needs to touch the glass for the best heat transfer. Most current brands sold today have flat bottoms. Much older, used cookware and/or thinner cookware will show signs of no longer being flat. Non-flat pans may crack the glass.
Use Medium or Heavy-Weight cookware.
Stainless Steel is highly recommended. A sandwich clad bottom is especially good because it combines the durability and stability of stainless steel with the heat conduction and distribution of aluminum or copper.
Heavy-Weight Aluminum cookware is also recommended. It conducts heat faster than other metals and cooks evenly. Aluminum residue sometimes appears as scratches on the cooktop, but these can be removed if cleaned immediately.
Cleaning with the cleaning cream after each use of the cooktop will keep the cooktop looking new and easy to clean. Ceramic cooktop cleaning creams are the best.
CeramaBryte is the recommended cleaner. Scrub vigorously, and dry with a soft cloth.
I hope this helps. Thanks for checking!

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 899 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for the price For my needs, it is a great product especially with the sale price. My previous ge smooth cooktop range lasted just over 18 years. I hope this does well, too. I like the bottom element is not exposed...you just have the smooth oven bottom...check it out. We don't have gas utilities here, so this performs very well for electric. Delivery was a snap. April 15, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great stove. I love all of it. The only thing is that the oven is slower to preheat then my old one. I wish there were better instructions for the convection oven use. If I get as many years out of it as the old GE. I'll be real happy. October 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice stove, loads of features. We really like the new stove. I love the dual sized front burners that allow you to select the burners size to match the pan size. The 5th "warming burner" is a nice feature to keep things warm while the rest of the meal is cooking. The oven is nice too with the convection feature, we use this setting to help preheat and to cook more evenly. We might need to adjust the temp though because it seems to take longer to cook items. ( The temp can be modified if it is low or high but we still need to confirm with a thermometer ) The oven clean up is a snap with the internal lower coil, wipe and go without the coil in the way. The controls are easy to use and reach. I am happy we spent the extra money on this model, far superior to our old GE model that died after 13 years. The wife says she loves the stove, happy wife, happy life. August 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this stove I purchased this stove about a year ago. I wanted to use it before I wrote a review. I am not disappointed. I use it every day and I love it. The burners heat up quickly and stay at a nice even temp. I like the 2 choices on one burner. The convection oven works great when baking 2 cookie sheets and many rack positions. I have put a few scratches in the slate finish on top just from use. That will happen when you use it. The ceramic top cleans easily also. I have used a cast iron skillet on it and it did leave a scar but it's dark like the top so I can live with it. I really do love the oven and I'm glad I bought it. August 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love my new GE Electric Range with Convection/Regular Oven Easy to use and a beautiful, multifunctional range/oven with convection feature. Range has 5th burner for warming which is really a nice feature! We love this purchase! August 11, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Purchase Delivery by Home Depot was prompt and installation was well done. We researched all makes and models of ranges trying to find a good product for a reasonable price. We had this same brand for 15 years prior and it gave us good service. We were looking in the store during their sale and thought the sale price was reasonable. The store didn't have a white model in stock so we went online to order and we're pleasantly surprised at checkout to be given a price $100 below the store sale price with free delivery to boot. This made it a very good buy in my opinion. So far it has performed well. March 28, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by nice range only had it a week like convection, like the sleekness and overall look. If it is as good as other GE products it would of been a good purchase. August 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome stove Love the many features and quality of GE. Totally awesome stove July 29, 2016
