Answer:
Hi Lynda- This is Sue at GE Appliances. While a vent hood is not required by GE, we suggest to check local codes for any venting requirements. Our GE PROFILE™ SERIES 36" ISLAND HOOD
PV977NSS is offered in stainless steel only: http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Profile-36-in-Designer-Range-Hood-in-Stainless-Steel-PV977NSS/100669151?keyword=pv977nss - Thanks for checking with us!

Answer:
You need an Island Range Hood. Sears - search Island Range Hoods. I bought this one cause it has tinted glass hood. http://m.sears.com/golden-vantage-36inch-sr-ak-ch603b-36-gvsc-stainless/p-SPM7743416607

Answer:
Hello Mm - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. The surrounding exterior surfaces/materials around the range should be able to withstand heat generated by the range up to 200 degrees in a 77 degree room. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 188 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Slide in Gas Range by GE - Love it This range is remarkable! My husband does most of the baking and cooking - and he is loving the 5 burners, the 3 oven racks and the so many features. We had bought the black one and it really looks stylish I did get a really great price on it as it was marked as a 'Special Buy' otherwise I would have had to look at another, more affordable one February 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Range The range is a bit higher than I expected. The range top grates are just two big pieces, which make them awkward to handle and clean. There was not a comprehensive operating manual included, and the timer does not work according to the instructions that came with the range. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice range and oven We bought this in early December to replace an electric cook top and gain an additional oven. The gas range cooks much faster than the electric cook top it replaced and the gas oven heats and cooks faster than our electric oven. With the convection oven we cooked a 21lb prime rib in a little over 3 hours compared to around 5 hours with our other oven. Overall we are happy that we bought it and very pleased with the performance. Some details to be aware of - We installed the range in a peninsula with bar chairs across from the range top. There is a small vent that sticks up at the back of the range and can be 160° when the oven is cooking at 350°. Our cabinets are the maximum depth (24”) recommended for this range. The front of the range (not including the handle) sticks out about 3 ½” beyond the face of the cabinets which is a bit more than we would have liked. We had to adjust the range to the maximum height to match the counter top. This left a significant space between the bottom of the range and the floor, and if left open makes the range installation appear quite unfinished. I inquired to GE and was told that they did not make a panel for the bottom. It would be nice if GE made a kick / tow panel for this range. December 30, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great stove Overall it's a very heavy duty, beefier unit. Even the knobs are surprisingly heavy. The stove slid right in to the same opening as our defunct older unit. Definitely a nicer built in look. Stove works great, took a bit of getting used to the higher heat output of the burners. Love the convection oven. Hope the touchpad holds up, that's what doomed our last stove. Also, really wish a griddle was an available. November 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality and effective It's not a fancy stove. But it cooks things. And it cooks them well. We selected this for price and quality. We are very thrilled with our decision. Delivered on time and Home Depot had a great financing plan. (24 mos. same as cash) October 6, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Looks and works great Range looks great... cooktop easy to keep clean.. haven't used oven yet July 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Got GE Slate Dishwasher, Microwave, Stove, & Refrigerator: All together a great look GE Side by Side Refrigerators GSE25HMHBHES Slide In Gas Ranges JGS750EEF3ES Spacemaker Microwaves JVM6175EF1ES General Electric Dishwashers GDT580SMF0ES Spacemaker Microwave JVM6175EF1ES did not count for the GE 4 unit $1000 rebate, we did qualify for a 3 unit $300 GE rebate. Focusing on the stove for this review: The oven temp was accurate, the grates and under grate areas clean easily, the burners fire up fast and burn bright. Install was easy, level, and fast. Clean up of the front panel, door, and handle is straight forward. Yes to this stove. November 3, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by SO-SO READ THIS IF YOU WANT TO HEAR THE POTENTIAL NEGATIVES: Okay, it's a beautiful oven. Absolutely. Also it's current on a great Memorial Day Sale. Also good. GE is a good name, and at least last I checked it was made in the USA. Also, who wants a Samsung or LG stove? They make laptops, why are they also making oven/stoves? But there are issues with this product: 1) You never see it ON in the store. Maybe for good reason. The clock is hard to read with really chunky numbers with gaps between each LCD part. 2) The glass touch-screen doesn't respond to a fingertip tap. You have to fat-finger it. Is this a child-safety feature? It definitely doesn't respond like my phone touch screen. If you use a fingertip you have to hit it hard. 3) The use of the oven buttons is absolutely inscrutable. When you go to tap in a time the seconds digits are actually minutes, and the minutes are hours. Also there's a START button, so you can't just set something, as it doesn't stay. All the buttons are the same size and color, so there's no quick way to see and recognize START. Or anything really. You have to go reading all the buttons to figure out which is which. Every time. When the timer goes off you can't hit the button that says STOP/CANCEL. Because that's for the oven. You have to hit TIMER. There are lights on some of the buttons, like OVEN to let you know it's on. But the OVEN LIGHT button has no light on it. So you can't tell when you're looking down whether the light is on or off. If you left it on last time then hitting the button to turn the light on actually turns it off, which you don't know until you bend down and see nothing. We've done this a number of times. OF COURSE THERE ARE WORKAROUNDS for all these things, and we may just need to learn our stove, but as a 40 year old with advanced degrees, when my stove makes me feel like an idiot I've gotta assume that part of the responsibility for that lies with the team that designed the user interface. 4) Honestly, my sense of this oven is that it's been optimized to sell on a showroom floor, not optimized to actually be used as an oven. 5) To use the griddle we turned the knob to GRIDDLE/PREHEAT/5 MINUTES MAX. The way the dial is printed it appears that the zone is for either the griddle, or if you're preheating something with the burner. So we set it for griddle and started using it. Eventually the whole thing became so hot everything was burning instantly on it. Then come to find out that the zone is for preheating the griddle. And the sparse paperwork says don't overheat the griddle because it'll permanently damage the non-stick. Well guess what, we permanently damaged the non-stick because the dial said "GRIDDLE" so we turned it to griddle to use the griddle. 6) Honestly, I'd return this if it was possible. Hey maybe it is, it's only been here for a week. It's just a terribly designed appliance in nearly every way. 7) The metal pieces on which pans sit are so high over the gas that it takes forever to boil water, even with a burner on high. 8) The oven came with NO USERS MANUAL. There's a flyer that says that if you really want a manual you can download it. --which is what brought me to the computer right now. To get the user manual I needed the serial number, so I came back to the Home Depot website, and while I was here I thought I'd share. 9) PLEASE READ THE ABOVE! AN INFORMED CONSUMER IS A POWERFUL CONSUMER. THEN IF YOU STILL WANT THE OVEN YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE GETTING. 10) Good luck. I'm off to read the fine print to see if we can return this.
