Flame size

I'm copying a previous answer on flame size, because I'd like a further explanation. I thought one of the benefits of a gas range is that you can see the flame size to adjust it accordingly. I want to be able to adjust the flame size and know I have either turned it down or up. Not just that it will cook faster or slower. Any suggestions? Thanks.
"I am happy to help. When operating your gas burners at different settings, you will most likely not be able to see a difference in flame size. The difference is very slight and is usually not visible to the eye.
If you boil water on HIGH and then boil water in MEDIUM, you will see there is a difference in the time it takes to boil. This shows that the burner is operating normally, even though the flame size did not appear to be changing.
Thank you for checking with us.
Lisa from GE Appliances."

Hello dm, This is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. We have recently updated our information. When operating your gas burners at different settings, you will most likely see a difference in flame size. This difference will result in a difference in heat output that affects the speed of cooking. Cooking with gas requires closer attention to the flame than the knob setting. Flames should not be allowed to extend beyond the bottom of the pan. Depending on your model and fuel type, service may be able to adjust the valves to give you better control at the LO setting. We hope this helps! Have a great day! Read Less

A depth of over 29" seems like a lot.. My countertop depth is only 26". Is the appliance depth measured out to the handle? Or the actual appliance face?

5.6 cu. ft. Slide-In Gas Range with Self-Cleaning Convection Oven in Stainless Steel is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 249.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beach House Stove Absolutely love this stove for my beach house at the NJ shore. Fits perfectly into a 30" opening and has crumb guards on each side that slide over the edges of the counter so nothing slips down the sides. It looks classy and fits right in with the rest of my SS appliances.. FYI, I have a Maytag DW, Frigidaire Refridgerator and Sharp microwave, and you can't tell they are different brands. I have the same GE Cafe model at my primary residence and this one has stronger burners and cooks my oatmeal faster, so beware. The grates are cast iron, and don't scratch and are very heavy, so they feel real solid. I can't say too many good things about it, but I have only owned it for 3 months as of May 2016, so time will tell. .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent features! The range is very sturdy and appears to be well made. The oven heats up quickly, the stove top has ample room for multiple pots and pans to cook a few things at once. The dials are easy to control and the flame intensity easily manipulated.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from GE quality is gone! broken drawer, stripped screws, missing screws, hammer needed to install, sharp edges bloodied my hands, my review consistently gets deleted....

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent, but lower build quality than our last GE Works well. FIT and finish, though, is much less nice than our previous GE range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WARNING - bump in the back! I'm giving this range 5 stars for looks - haven't even used it yet!! I want to warn potential purchasers about a protrusion in center on the back side of the range. The gas line in my kitchen is exactly centered in the space for the range...also where the "bump" is. As a result, my range sits about an inch (maybe more) away from the wall/beyond the countertop. The installer suggested hiring a plumber to move the gas line in the wall 6 inches to the right so it would not hit the line and would be flush against the wall.... Ugh! Sounds expensive & even dangerous....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Practical and Beautiful Though we have only had this range for a few days we just love it. The slide in overhang that covers the edge of the granirte to prevent spills down the sides is great and made the installation very easy. The cook top is our favorite. The continuos grates (edge to edge) seem huge compared to our old range. We have used the middle burner and it is wonderful for simmering sauces, etc. The stainless cooktop is the best we've seen for cleanup. It is so easy to wipe down. The knobs are also easy to wipe off!
