Website says this model not available at my location - that is wrong - when i went 3 days ago there were mountains of them boxed and ready to go so we bought it basically unseen. Got it unboxed and installed and so far am unimpressed. First, it looks flimsy - notice that the illustration is full front view, not angled like some others to show a 3/4 view and some of the venting on the side. The vents on this thing are huge enough to see right through the whole thing. Plus the front-view illustration shows a normal-looking dark area behind the front vent but, no, because it is so open from the outside all the light comes through and all I can see is the white styrofoam slab they put in there, i suppose, to keep whatever critters that can crawl in through the vent holes from getting into the house. I never thought I would live to see a GE product so poorly made.
IN ADDITION his is installed in a bedroom where it woke me up before 5 a.m. today with an alarm for no discernable reason - repeating BEEP BEEP BEEP, BEEP BEEP BEEP, BEEP BEEP BEEP and so on until I turned the darned thing off. IT'S THREE DAYS OLD for goodness sake - what does it have to be alarmed about - and why on earth would I have such a thing in my bedroom ... Not Happy

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Taylor Window unit does not cool
I live in a small apartment, so I purchased this unit in the hopes of cooling my 10 x 9 ft. room. While the AC unit seems to be "working" as in it tuns on and has air blowing out of it, it does not cool the room. I notice that when I set it on "Cool" and "High" and adjust the temperature to the lowest degree, it will circulate cool air for a very short amount of time and then suddenly switch back to warm air. The temperature on the display screen will drop to 58, switch off, and then rapidly increase to about 80. This process repeats over and over, but the room does not seem to cool down.
Is there something I can do to fix this? I would like the unit to remain constant on "Cool" mode in order to lower the temperature in my room and hopefully the rest of the apartment if I leave it on long enough.
Thank you in advance.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Donna Don't buy it! You are throwing your money away!!!!
I bought two of these air conditioners for two rooms in my home. Only used them for three summers. That's only four months each year and only 8 hours per night. I put them in my windows this year and only one works. The other air conditioner's compressor broke and it doesn't blow cold air at all. I had it stored carefully in my basement in the winter and handled them both carefully. Don't buy GE products. They build their products so they break for no reason. I have two other LG air conditioners for at least eight years, same kind of use and they're still working. Now I have to go buy another air conditioner. It won't be a GE air conditioner!!! I am buying an LG air conditioner from Lowes!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by whythis4321 A very good purchase experiance
Quieter the other units I have at less BTU rating. The 6500 BTU unit not available :( Will know after the end of the season how effective. Lastly, Installation has more foam to seal unit, some glued to window. I modified this part of insulation to avoid having to destroy when removed at the end of season. The unit fit to my windows is typically poor, so this one did require a little more creativity sealing the gaps. If they ask at the end of the season, I will be able to report on actual performance.
