Website says this model not available at my location - that is wrong - when i went 3 days ago there were mountains of them boxed and ready to go so we bought it basically unseen. Got it unboxed and installed and so far am unimpressed. First, it looks flimsy - notice that the illustration is full front view, not angled like some others to show a 3/4 view and some of the venting on the side. The vents on this thing are huge enough to see right through the whole thing. Plus the front-view illustration shows a normal-looking dark area behind the front vent but, no, because it is so open from the outside all the light comes through and all I can see is the white styrofoam slab they put in there, i suppose, to keep whatever critters that can crawl in through the vent holes from getting into the house. I never thought I would live to see a GE product so poorly made.
IN ADDITION his is installed in a bedroom where it woke me up before 5 a.m. today with an alarm for no discernable reason - repeating BEEP BEEP BEEP, BEEP BEEP BEEP, BEEP BEEP BEEP and so on until I turned the darned thing off. IT'S THREE DAYS OLD for goodness sake - what does it have to be alarmed about - and why on earth would I have such a thing in my bedroom ... Not Happy

After a few months (the in store return warranty expired by then) my a/c started to make a bad grinding noise (something in the motor...possibly the bearings). Since I purchased this for my dad, I wasn't aware of the problem until the 12 month warranty was almost up. (Note: the a/c was only used for about five months until it was put away for the winter.) After finding out about this problem when turning it on this spring, I called GE. Their solution was to send a refurbished unit with a very limited warranty...not seven months (balance of warranty on original defective a/c), not three months, not even a month, but only a couple weeks. By the time shipping would take place, at best the warranty would be a few days. Would you feel this is acceptable...? I certainainly do not.
My suggestion is to stay away from GE and purchase a different brand! By the way, GE's suggestion to appease me was to SELL me an extended warranty for big money.

I used it for about a month, and the darn thing quit working. This was my second GE air conditioner I purchased in 2015.

I bought this unit- floor model without remote control and all hardware for half price because new unit in the box was not available in all entire area .It's very light and efficient. Two similar A/C provide good cooling in 600sg feet(ceiling 8feet high).Instead harmonica plexiglass cover openings Remote control works on both units. I am a pro and wuld like to reply all complainers about temperature display on this A/C. Sensor locates behinds filter and sensing only that spot/

Purchased this unit end of june a year ago. It is now 13july. Worked a treat until yesterday. Now, when the compressor is running, about every 30 seconds, THUMP, like the start/stop thump, only more so. Still cools, but the thump shakes the house. Not serviceable in place, so just checked the current and line voltage. Dead on until the thump, then current spike with no preceding drop, so it looks like compressor is wedging or motor is going,not control contactor.
A couple weeks out of warrantee, and it is on the way out. Not worth repair. I am limited to a smaller unit due to electrical limitations, so will replace with a similar unit, but don't know if it will be another GE. Oh well.

I like this AC unit, but my only complaint is that it will not remember or stay at the settings last used. So every time you turn it back on you have to reset your preferences again. Very annoying and easy to fix I'm sure on GE's end. Fix this issue and you have a real winner!

This is my second GE Air Conditioner. I checked out the rating on Consurmer Report for my first one last year. I am very happy with it . I really enjoy the energy saver . One is in the kitchen which is open to the living room and with the ceiling fan in the living room, it cools everything down. I was hoping it would be quieter. The one I purchased this year is in my bedroom. It cools the small bedroom very easily. It is loud but maybe rain got inside. I will have to have it checked because it makes a loud gurgle sound. for the price and size I am happy.
