Also, there is a link on the web page for the A/C unit which says, "Want it now? Search internet # 203188066 to check store availability," which seems like just what I want, but it doesn't work the way I expected it to. No matter, I bought an A/C unit elsewhere. Pity. I like Home Depot.

Do what I did, call the store and was told they didn't have it in stock but if I ordered it it would be in within two days which I did then they asked if I wanted it to be delivered to the store or my house, no extra charge. Two days later it was sitting on the floor in the room I was going to install it in, hands off.

Answer:
If your sure this is the right size for your needs and do the proper resurch, why bother going to the store? Order it on line and have it delivered to your home. That's what we did and it all worked out great. You don't even need to leave your home. If things don't work out you can return it to your store.

The design of these fins are to help exhaust heat from the unit, not from your house. So, if the window unit fins are obstructed it 'MAY' cause the unit to not properly vent it's own heat which will eventually lead to unit failure sooner rather than later.
The thickness of your exterior wall plays into effect when using a window or wall unit. The window unit will work, but along with the heat venting issue. The fan blades the evaporate the water from the bottom of the unit may also throw some of that water into the sides of your wall creating moister in-between the inner and outer walls which in turn will create the dreaded mold issue.
In other words, the wall unit is specifically designed so that none of the about will happen.

I don't think so. Home Depot has window and wall units listed separately so they must have different
hardware to secure them to the wall or window. MW

We've been told that we must buy a unit with a "top skirt for window installation". Does this unit have that? What is that? Thanks!

Answer:
You probably have a high window or one that slides open as opposed to a up and down sash.
This AC is designed for a sash type window that would open by lifting up as opposed to sliding left or right to open.
If your window slides open far enough for the AC to fit in the opening you could fabricate a skirt yourself out of sheet metal, wood,or plastic.

Personally I like using a piece of plywood cut to the size of the unit to fill the gap(s) that you can easily slide the unit in and out of for Cleaning and Winter Storage. Most Home Depot Stores have pre cut pieces of plywood 2'x4' and 4'x4' at very reasonable prices to do just that and you can paint them any color you like.

On the energy saver mode, does the ac make much noise going on and off? Also, how does the Home Depot model compare with the same model sold by other vendors?

My initial take on this unit was that it was very loud. This year I have it in a different room and have come to the conclusion that it was the vibrations due to the storm window that caused it to be so loud. Overall I'm very happy with the noise level with this ac unit. I would rate the volume level as med-low. Go get it!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Lasted one season only Bought this last summer 2014 and it worked fine. This summer 2015 the thermostat does not work properly, as a result the energy saver mode is useless. This AC unit thermostat is off by over 10 degrees! I have it set to go on whenever room temp goes above 70 degrees, the temp in bedroom is 73 degrees but AC unit saids it's 62 degrees and as a result it never turns on and I'm lefy sweating in my sleep. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice unit, packed with care. This replaced a wall unit in a mobile home. It comes with a quality power cord with a tester built into it. The remote comes with batteries. It is quiet. No louder than any ac unit I've ever heard. The warranty card had all the information needed about my particular unit already printed on a strip so all I needed to do was fill out my address and send it in. Comes with weather stripping. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Noisy and a Rusty mess! I bought 2 of these. At the high fan speed I can not hear on the phone. After 1 1/2 years both units are rusting, creating stains on the side of my house and roof below. June 30, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AC Unit great Love it. The remote comes in handy too. Great value. June 18, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good basic unit A little noisy as all window units, but do far so good October 9, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great purchase for me. I love the way it cools the bedroom, and it is quiet. With the exception of the dent in the unit that happened prior to packaging, I am very pleased with the unit itself. August 14, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A good air conditioner I love this air conditioner so much because it is Cool and modern like a McDonald's PlayPlace and the most popular Hotel company "Choice Hotels" uses this too. And I will use this air conditioner or one like this in my apartment in Toronto Ontario Canada when I write and produce new episodes of Corduroy at Nelvana and have my own school bus. December 11, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Thermostat doesn't work after a year! I purchased this unit last summer (2014), like many other reviewers, and the thermostat has now stopped working. The room NEVER gets cool. I have to hold the thermostat in my hand to have it kick on and put out cold air. This seems to be a common problem now. I called GE customer service and they were no help so now I'm filing a claim with their consumer relations department to see what they can do for me. Fingers crossed they will fix or replace it.
