Customer Questions & Answers

what can I replace a t 19 light blub with. It's for a 3 light pole lamp. I want the brightest lightI can get. It can only handle a 60 watt blub.

Asked by: grunt64
Hi grunt64, I'm Travis from The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site. Your light fixture's recommended maximum wattage of 60 watts is based on the wiring's ability to handle the current draw of those incandescent bulbs (60 watts). LED and Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs produce much more light output per watt than incandescent bulbs. This is why those bulbs are labeled as "wattage equivalent", so we can predict their brightness, based on past experience. As long as you keep the consumed wattage under 60 watts, the light output can be greater with either CFL or LED bulbs. Look for the "actual watts used" information on the bulb package. CFL bulbs are available in high wattage versions that use less than 60 watts of input current. These bulbs will increase in size as their light output increases, and they take as long as three minutes to come to full brightness. Cold weather causes CFLs to light up more slowly. Because this is an outdoor fixture, weather will affect CFLs, causing them to take longer to become bright. LEDs perform well in any temperature, but we don't have as many choices in high light output, yet. We will have more choices as the market develops. Any bulb that consumes less than 60 watts and will physically fit into your light fixture can be utilized. Quick question, long answer. Thank you for asking, Travis

are these bulbs dimmable?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes APS, Incandescent, or standard lightbulbs are dimmable. Compact fluorescent, or CFL bulbs require a specific ballast to operate on a variable power source, or dimmer switch. Halogen and incandescent bulbs never had that issue and have always been dimmable. Travis
