Customer Questions & Answers

Does it have battery back up?

There are models w/ power failure back up to keep the input data. That way after the power returns it keeps working.
Asked by: Anonymous
Absolutely. This has been unplugged and out of use almost for a year and the time on it was correct (except for daylight savings time 1 hour "off" error.)

GE Digital Timer, Model #15089

Search the internet with the model number. I have tried to include a link but it violates T&C for this site. It's not a GE website that you need, just try ge 15089 in the search engine of choice. There's even a youtube video to make it easy.

Like previous model, this GE digital timer works once you understand how to set it. While some might prefer the smaller size of this one, I prefer the older model with 2 outlets. Because it is smaller, the face is a lot harder to read - I have to use a flashlight to read it. I would purchase this one again if I can't get the larger model.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from POOR LED display I bought this at a local HD - but the package had the brand name "Defiant" instead - identical visually. I could not use it. The instructions were pretty clear. But it has a display with AM/PM, ON/OFF and Auto/whatever in IMPOSSIBLY SMALL letters on the display. I have 20/25-30 vision, and I STRUGGLED to read them using a magnifier glass. POOR design. If you have 20/20 vision and don't wear glasses, this might be great for you. I'm returning it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great idea...but failed within a year of use Unfortunately, less than a year, the unit stopped working. I tried the reset button and reprogrammed but it is still dead. First clue is when you switch from Auto to On, you no longer have the relay clicking sound which means something failed in that part of the circuitry. My mechanical timer lasted well over a decade...although it became noisy. I have a a whole house surge protector, thus it should have been protected from transients.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy and Efficient!! Once I read the instructions, I figured it out in about 2 minutes. Easy to follow instructions! And it worked perfectly!! And I am NOT an electronics person.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick and easy to set up, and worked as advertised The main reason I purchased this product, rather than a less expensive, standard timer, is the vacation mode that allowed me to set a time range and have lights randomly come on within that range. The options were seemingly endless because each day can be programmed multiple ways (rather than say M-F or Sa-Su). Several reviewers complained about the size of the LCD letters, and I suppose if you have poor vision it could be a problem. But the instructions have pictures of the screen at each step, so it's manageable. And setting up the timers took about 5 minutes after a quick review of the instructions; it's not intuitive that you have to reset the timer before programming. I've already recommended these to others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Product After reading a few of the reviews here, I was hesitant buying this product. However, despite instructions that were maybe a tad too small to easily read, they were very easy to follow and complete. This timer was a breeze to set up. I set one up with a single setting: all days, 7pm-11:58pm, RANDOM. I then turned on the light I wanted to operate, unplugged it and plugged it into the timer (2-prong only), turned the control to Auto OFF (since the time was not within the hours I specified), and plugged it into the wall outlet. I watched it operate for a few days until my trip and it worked perfectly. My other room I wanted to program it to turn on and off a light several times each night at different times and durations -- like going into a room for a short period of time except for one period equal to reading a book time. With the 20 settings available I was able to set it up for an entire week. yes, some of the words and letters on the display may be small, but what can you expect for a device you WANT small when plugged into you wall! Like a watch, the display has to fit the device. The instructions clearly show where the relevant words (indicators) are on the display and you usually do not even have to actually read them but simply know where they are. GE might want to make the instructions a little larger, but I was completely satisfied with both instructions and display and I am borderline bifocal needy. Great product. I left on my trip with comfort and returned to watch it operate flawlessly another few days. Couldn't beat the price from Home Depot (lower than Amazon) either. Enjoy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Waste of money I thought buying this digital timer would be a welcome upgrade to my noisy mechanical timer that I've been using the past 10+ years. Initially I was very happy with this GE timer, it was silent in operation and has a lot of flexibility in programming. BUT.....Twice in a 8 month period the timer lost the programming and all of the settings had to be re-entered. Then magically a month or two after the 1 year warranty expired, I came home to find my lamps on in the middle of the afternoon. This time, all of my settings were intact but the timer was turning itself on during daylight periods that it was programmed to be off. The "reset" button didn't cure the problem so it went in the garbage. Thankfully, I never threw away my old Intermatic mechanical timer. Please save your money and avoid this product.
