Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 28 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by One of the worst product choices I've ever made While this product does all the things it is supposed to do - turn on and off at pre-programmed times, with enough variables for most anyone - it is next to impossible to actually use because of the itty-bitty screen size and the complexity of the program choices. Some of the indicators - am/pm/ on/off are barely visible - maybe less than a millimeter tall. And you can only discern them with light falling on the screen exactly perfectly. So if you think about the unit plugged into the wall behind a chair, you need to be on your hands and knees with a flashlight to be able to view the screen. If you want to make an adjustment, you really need to unplug the thing and take it somewhere that it gets good light, and make the adjustment - to be fair, it does stay powered by an internal battery so you can do this. But let's say you want to turn on a light for a moment prior to its programmed time - the on/off button is on the bottom of the unit, and pressing it cycles through 4 choices (on, auto on, off, auto off)- so you can't just press it once to turn the light on, then press again to turn it off and put it back into the program cycle. You have to be able to see the screen to know what part of the program you've left it in. If you set this up once and never touch it again (ever!) then it's ok, but if you might want to turn the light on when the program doesn't have it on, its totally impractical. Faced with all the choices on the rack in the store, I bought this because of the GE name, but I should have thought about it plugged into an outlet behind a chair, and how difficult it would be to interface with the device in real life. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy and Efficient!! Once I read the instructions, I figured it out in about 2 minutes. Easy to follow instructions! And it worked perfectly!! And I am NOT an electronics person. April 1, 2010
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Product After reading a few of the reviews here, I was hesitant buying this product. However, despite instructions that were maybe a tad too small to easily read, they were very easy to follow and complete. This timer was a breeze to set up. I set one up with a single setting: all days, 7pm-11:58pm, RANDOM. I then turned on the light I wanted to operate, unplugged it and plugged it into the timer (2-prong only), turned the control to Auto OFF (since the time was not within the hours I specified), and plugged it into the wall outlet. I watched it operate for a few days until my trip and it worked perfectly. My other room I wanted to program it to turn on and off a light several times each night at different times and durations -- like going into a room for a short period of time except for one period equal to reading a book time. With the 20 settings available I was able to set it up for an entire week. yes, some of the words and letters on the display may be small, but what can you expect for a device you WANT small when plugged into you wall! Like a watch, the display has to fit the device. The instructions clearly show where the relevant words (indicators) are on the display and you usually do not even have to actually read them but simply know where they are. GE might want to make the instructions a little larger, but I was completely satisfied with both instructions and display and I am borderline bifocal needy. Great product. I left on my trip with comfort and returned to watch it operate flawlessly another few days. Couldn't beat the price from Home Depot (lower than Amazon) either. Enjoy. October 20, 2011
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice timer So much better in digital...I can READ it and setting it is a breeze. So many options on it, too. May 14, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Only works when it feels like it. I have had many problems with my unit. I have had to set and reset several times since I bought it in May. It just decides to stop working on its own. The instructions are very hard to read and the indicators on the screen are even harder in some cases. The unit is not dependable, bottom line. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Easy to use but beware this isnt a 3 prong As the other reviewer stated this device is easy to use once you read the instructions, however the plug is only a 2 prong so if you plan on using this for 3 prong plugs such as flourescent lighting you will have to purchase some sort of adapter. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than expected Very simple to use. April 30, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by product is over priced asnd unreliable my wife and i decided to upgrade our intermatic mechanical timers. we had them throughout our home used to turn on table or dresser lamps. we recieved ten years use from them. now they started to make noise and sometimes miss a trip or two. we thought the GE digital timers would be the answer. so we purchased six from our local home depot. at exactly six months two stopped working, a month later one more and it wasn't fixed by a simple reset either, not good odds 50/50 and at twenty bucks a piece not cheap either. we were even considering the using the other GE security products. but i believe them to be also be unreliable and will not recommend them. if you must purchase things made abroad there are less expensive with same quality elsewhere. brand names are not the answer.
