I bought this from Home Depot in April, 2014. After having it off all winter long, I powered it up in the Spring of 2016. A few days go by with it running (fan on) and it should be draining through hose. After it doesnt appear to be working, I switch to bucket. After that fails to draw any water out, I unplug the unit, put it on its back and look up inside of it and the entire thing is completely rusted. This was sitting in an otherwise dry basement the entire time. It was never outside, never in any standing water or anything. What a waste of money.

I had this unit for 2 years. It worked well for one year then the automatic shut down failed and the fan ran constantly but the compressor cycled OK. A week ago the compressor stopped and the humidity increased in the basement. I took the front panel off and noticed refrigerant oil everywhere and saw that the cheap solder and copper evaporator coil had let go. It looked as if the solder and copper reacted with one another and corroded. JUNK . I had discarded my old USA units when I bought this one, what a mistake. I now have a FRAL FDK54, a real dehumidifier like the old USA ones. A company should not be afraid to offer a 5 yr. warranty on a product if it is built right. The GE is a joke and they and the retailers are making millions on junk. The GE dehumidifiers are only truly worth 1/5 of the asking price.$50.00 for this unit maximum.

Do not buy this unit!
Do not buy this unit, nor any other unit from GE. They are cheaply made in China, using substandard parts and labor. I don't have any particular axe to grind against GE, but they treated me poorly when this unit failed after only 1 1/2 seasons.
I took the skins off the unit, and found that the compressor was okay, still cycling on and off as it should, but there was no refrigerant left in the unit to drive the cooling. The refrigerant must have all dissipated through a leak. Since the warranty on the unit is one year, the only thing that GE would offer me is a $50 voucher towards a new GE appliance if I cut off the power cord of this unit and render it inoperable. No thanks. Why would I want to buy another cheaply made unit for $270, only to have it fail as soon as the warranty period was over?

Bought this for an unfinished basement. Not sure if I really needed the big-boy 70 pint model, but I bought it anyway. Figured it would just run less than a smaller one if nothing else. I got no complaints. It ran constant for the several days and was pulling out well over 2 gallons of water per day. But once everything got stabilized, it doesn't run too terribly much. Controls are easy to use. It seems to be built well enough. I do want to buy a hydrometer also. Those are cheap, and I just want to make sure the reading on the humidifier itself is reasonably accurate.

We have high moisture in our 40x100' truck garage and these two dehumidifiers really are the way to go!

This humidifier does the job well. Having it on a continuous drain is key to not having it be another daily hassle. The draining container will act as a catch if the continuous hose started to leak, so I really like that design. It isn't the cheapest thing to run, but it is better than a dank basement. Sometimes my HVAC unit would get condensation on the ducting, but not anymore with this helping the environmental conditions down there. Less chance of mold/mildew. It is good for the home and for the health of those in it.

This dehumidifier seems like a good machine. But I was wanting one that would turn on and off by its self to keep the humidity at a certain percentage. This one does not
Honestly I thought all of them did that because he last one we had was not as expensive and it had that feature. I am disappointed. But it is what I purchased.

I bought another brand from a competing retailer, and returned it do to the noise level. You can actually watch television while this one is running.
