Answer:
Open the doors. On the back side of the doors use a sharp bladed pocket knife and gently drag the blade over the plastic with little to no pressure on the blade. You might lift the gasket, as suggested, and gently drag the blade creating a shallow cut in the plastic. The plastic remnants will tear away cleanly. Don't cut thru the plastic and scar the finish. Time: 5 minutes max.

Answer:
I removed it very very slowly. Realized it was going to take a lot of time so I allowed a lot of time. Didn't rip at it. Just went slowly and stretched it away from the gaskets. Also used a plastic tweezer to get any small remnants near the gaskets and edges, but slow and steady was the answer for us.

Answer:
Hi Mojo,
There is no easy method and you will never get all of the film off.
My suggestion is to gently pull back the gaskets and peal away as much of the film as possible.
When the gasket is in place the film will not show.

Is there an adjustment to make the doors of the cold food section close on their own better?

Most refrigerators I have had in the past, if you give them a light push to close, the doors will close the rest of the way, this one I have to manually completely close the door all the way. I was wondering if I need to adjust the leveling or something else so that light push will make it close. Several times I have pushed the door and turned around and found it was still open.

Hello Kalina - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you with regard to your refrigerator.
The French door bottom mount refrigerators have a hinge system that helps prevent the doors from being slammed shut. You would have to push the doors rather firmly if you wanted to shut the doors by giving them a push.
I hope this helps! Thanks for choosing GE!

I put it in the lower door shelf because that is the most convenient place for something that is retrieved many times a day.

However, because the electronic sensors constantly measure the fresh food and freezer temperatures, the temperature in the refrigerator will remain steady at the set temperature throughout the refrigerator. There is no set way to load your refrigerator as it is a matter of personal preference. For instance, you may want to place the items that you will get more frequently on the shelves just above the deli drawers. I hope this is helpful! Thanks for checking with us! Read Less

This is for Model DFE29JMDDES, Serial # SA5000601. I was able to get the filter out, but due to the cost of $60, I cannot replace it at this time, probably next week. I don't want to damage the ice maker or water filter system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Until it sputters to a stop. Use the blank that came with it if your filter is clogged and order a new one. There are generic models at about $25 on the internet.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 127 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love the Slate This refrigerator has performed perfectly since first purchased in 2012. The water quality from the filter is outstanding. Being a bit of a water snob, I was shocked by how good the filtered water is from this unit, although, the filter replacement cost is outrageous. While the slate color has not taken hold, we LOVE it. We transitioned from an early stainless model that rusted and showed everything. This slate wipes clean and is magnetic! Only drawback is that you must be careful as the slate color finish will chip. Inside of refrigerator has top quality glass and trim. Would absolutely recommend. June 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Love this fridge! We were very excited about upgrading our fridge. Overall we are very happy with this purchase. Our basic likes and dislikes are below. Love: fridge space, color (slate), ease of maintenance (we bought slate as opposed to stainless because it is so easy to clean yet has a similar look as stainless, HIGHLY recommend), front of door water and ice (convenience) Could be Better: I am concerned about the bottom drawer in the fridge. It does not slide as easily as it should and has gotten stuck once already (first month). I'm hoping we do not have problems with this. Secondly, the door ice dispenser often dispenses ice outside of the cup being filled. This happens more with crushed ice as opposed to cubed. I'm not sure why it was designed the way it was because small ice bits spray beyond the cup's ability to capture the ice. February 27, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I LOVE it except.... My appliances were just delivered and I'm so excited!! BUT, first I noticed a shelf that looked a tad beat up, I thought I could probably clean it up and make it better. THEN, I saw the silver slider piece on the Fruit/Vegetable drawer (right by the black scuff marks) was gone!! I'm so bummed!! February 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by love it! I bought this in May 2014 and just love it! I mainly bought it for the color and love the room in the frig and freezer March 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice fridge so far!! Bought this to replace a cumbersome side-by-side fridge/freezer that I hated. There was never any room for a frozen pizza, or something large like a turkey for the holidays. This GE fridge is AWESOME. Love the dual ice makers...I usually like to scoop out of the bottom one for a full glass of ice, but the ice/water dispensers in the door work great too. I like that you can open only half of the fridge if you need something quick...conserve that cold air inside! My veggies stay fresh longer in the new drawer...must be designed with better temp/humidity controls than my old one. No more stinky cauliflower after 2 days! And the room in the freezer is amazing!!! Took all of the junk in my old side-by-side and there's still room left. Need to learn to organize differently...stack things sideways for easy access and no digging in the freezer. A little louder than my old unit...just a basic "hum" to let you know it's working. But as long as it's a "normal" sound, I can get used to it! Thanks for a great product! March 18, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bulky doors, freezer drawer inefficient use of space. Having to open two doors instead of one is sometimes a pain and the freezer drawer is very inefficient. Have to stack and unstack to fit everything in and things are hard to get to. I'd rather have a side by side. It's also noticeably louder than my old one. August 3, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful but with flaws Beautiful. Love the extra ice storage. But one door is higher than the other and there are places where glue is showing at joints. July 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I love it! I love how large the interior is! I can fit so much more into this than my side by side style fridge! The ice seems to last pretty well- we always used to run out with the previous fridge. The best part is the slate color that doesn't show prints! January 23, 2016
