Hi Kh- This is Sue at GE Appliances. We are sorry to hear of the issue with the door and glad to help. If the dishwasher door will not close or latch properly, check the installation of the dishwasher. If the door is hitting the cabinet, it will not close properly. The dishwasher must be aligned in the cabinet so it does not interfere with the closing of the door. Make sure the dishwasher is level. Make sure the upper rack is in the correct position. The rack is adjustable up or down 2" but should not be raised or lowered on one side only. If the rack is not level, it will not push in all the way. This prevents the door from closing all the way. Why is there soap residue left on the door and on many pieces of silverware in the bottom rack after a completed wash/dry cycle?

The dishes seem to be clean enough (except for some of the silverware), but there shouldn't be any soap residue. There are no obstructions to the opening of the soap door.

Customer Reviews

Rated 2.6 out of 5 by 250 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Definitely quieter! This dishwasher is really quiet; you can barely hear it--even when I'm the only one in the house and standing right next to it! Unfortunately, the drying capability isn't impressive. We've used the HEAVY cycle with STEAM on, and SANI and HEATED DRY settings on-- so that 271 (degrees F) is displayed. We've had to lessen the load we're trying to wash, which means leaving more space between bowls in the upper rack. The (empty) front rack tends to slide out on its own when the door is open-- perhaps due to the front of the washer lower than the back? All in all, it's a GOOD (decent) dishwasher, especially for the quiet operation. Time will tell if it holds up to daily use. January 28, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great look. Overall really nice. Love the feature including the my plate button. Love the clean look of it as we'll. January 20, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible washer Listen to these reviews. I wish we did. Dishwasher does not clean dishes at all. All of the soap is still sitting in the door after cycle. Cycles are long. First dishwasher came with loose handle, second doesn't clean dishes. The heating element doesn't work and leaves everything wet and then washer smells like stagnant water. Pay more if you want a GE. Avoid this model! December 19, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Should have read the reviews first Consider yourself lucky to have read these reviews and do not purchased this machine, we have had this machine for 6 months and we are replacing it. Total waste of money. Issues: -does not clean dishes !!!! -soap dispenser will not open during cycle (we have to leave it open) -cannot use bottom silverware tray, due to poor design- the water is blocked from getting to the soap dispenser It is quiet, looks nice and has a timer delay which is nice, but if it doesn't clean dishes- it is pretty worthless. Wish I would have read these prior to this expensive purchase. September 19, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Dishwasher If you purchase this dishwasher, you must first make sure you clean your dishes before you load them in. I have owned this for 6 months now, and often have to run dishes through twice to get them clean. The soap dispenser does not consistenly open with liquid soap. The bottom rack is poorly laid out to get the dishes to lean forward to get water spray. It runs much longer than the Maytag I replaced it with. If you put silverware in the row of the rack that is closest to the door when it is closed, you can not get the door to close all the way. I don't often write reviews, but I was compelled to let everyone know bad this machine is. October 28, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by nice and quite this dishwasher was easy to install and is nice and quite you can't even hear it running unless you are standing right next to it . works great October 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by We love it! We are very pleased with our dishwasher. We've had it for four months. Our water at the sink takes awhile to get hot, so we've have to add the sanitize feature to get all of the soap to dissolve, but that's our old plumbing and has little to do with our dishwasher. The dishes come out clean. We're using dishwasher cleaner monthly, as we have hard water and are hoping to keep the dishwasher going for many years to come. The only thing I'm not thrilled with is the location of the silverware holder on the top rack. We knock it off, at least partially, every time we load & unload dishes. Other than that, we haven't had any problems. March 13, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worst appliance purchase we've ever made.... I waited and waited to buy a new dishwasher......only to be really disappointed by this purchase...We basically are washing everything prior to loading in the dishwasher because it doesn't clean anything. Its basically a big sanitizer is all. Also, the detergent dispenser almost never opens up even if I just use gel dishwasher detergent. At first I thought it must be because of the pods getting stuck....nope doing it also with gel detergent. So I just leave the dispenser door open and let it run out and down the inside of the door. The dishwasher doesn't even clean most of the detergent that runs down on the inside of the door!! The rinse aid compartment is horrible to refill. You can barely fit any in so you're filling it all of the time. The stainless steel seems to be of low quality. The finish from day one is impossible to get all of the streaks and smears off. So not happy with my purchase. May 27, 2016
