How do you know what the dishwasher is doing when controls are on the top?

This question is from Adora Top Control Dishwasher in Slate with Stainless Steel Tub and Steam PreWash
October 28, 2014
I've never owned a dishwasher where the controls aren't in the front, and the one I have now actually counts down the cycle time, which is awesome, but I don't think that's an option on even the front-control GE models in this color (slate#.

Once you set the wash cycle, what type of indication is there that the dishwasher is running #aside from the noise, of course#? I'm assuming there's a light in the front - does the light change when the dishwasher goes from "cleaning" to "finished"? Is there any indication regarding what the dishwasher is doing #i.e., steaming, drying)? Thanks in advance!

Amber light comes on when cycle starts If you get down low near the crack between the door and the case you can see the settings you started the dishwasher cycle while running and see the time remaining.

It is brand new and I run the hot water for 2 minutes before the cycles and after each cycle the cascade pod is not dissolved. I even check mid cycle to make sure the water is still hot.

It drains a bit, then stops. Then it drains some more, then stops. This happens about 4 times when the dishwasher drains.

Answer:
Yes this is normal for the drain pump to cycle on and off. It's part of the filter cleaning process. The stopping and starting of the drain motor helps create turbulence around the filter and clear it up of food soils.

Hi Clover 7313,
I am happy to help. It is normal to hear it pause during the cycle briefly. The wash pump will cycle on and send water to the lower spray arm. During the wash cycle the wash pump alternates which spray arm to supply with water. Water is supplied to the lower spray arm, then the wash pump stops and starts again, this time sending water to the mid and upper spray arms.
The lower, mid and upper spray arms do not use water at the same time. This helps maintain good water pressure throughout the cycle.
Thank you for checking with us. Lisa from GE Appliances.

The door wont stay latched to run the wash cycle. Keeps popping open. Just bought this house several weeks ago, previous owner had it just over a year. It is an adora dishwasher. Latch doesn't seem to hold tight. Looked at new ones at homedepot, they seem to snap into place. This one doesnt seem to click in very well. Have to hold door and slowly move away from it and pray it stays closed. It was definenelty bought at home depot the same as the stove and fridge.

I had the same problem with my Adora dishwasher. Poor engineering on GE's part. Most other brands use metals latches, but GE uses a plastic latch.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by It doesn't clean the dishes We had an old set of GE appliances for 15 years that worked great. We updated our kitchen and wanted new appliances. We liked the slate finish and replaced everything; dishwasher, refrigerator and stove/oven. The dishwasher doesn't seem to work right. It leaves soap residue on dishes and silverware. We have tried several different types of soap, but can't seem to get it to work right. Even put it on the heavy cycle thinking it would wah longer, but still not cleaning the dishes. It is only a couple of months old. Not sure why?? I think the soap door isn't opening properly or at the right time. July 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Color does not match! The color I purchased was slate. The stove, refrigerator and microwave are the same color with a smooth finish. The dishwasher is a lighter color and has a textured finish. I am very disappointed because of this; but I do not know what to do to rectify it. Other than that the dishwasher is fine! July 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dispenser does not work Dispenser is terrible! We purchased this in Sept 2015 and just scheduled my FOURTH service call because the dispenser cup will not open. Opens sometimes, sometimes not. Have followed all the tech's instructions - keeping the area in front of the door clear and changing silverware trays and it still opens for soap less than half the time. Liquid, powder, makes no difference. Hugely disappointing. Sounds like the techs are called on this one pretty frequently and it's not just me. Looks good, does not work well. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SO QUIET YOU DON'T KNOW IT'S THERE! I BOUGHT THIS ABOUT A MONTH AGO. EXTREMELY QUIET MACHINE. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great features and Quiet! Replaced an older dishwasher with this one. It has great features (selectable levels, modes), cleans well, and is the quietest dishwasher I've ever owned. July 3, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Dishwasher Ever Purchased This was the third dishwasher I purchased and installed, and I have never had a problem with a new installation. We purchased this dishwasher to match our new refrigerator, so it sat in the box in my garage for just over a year before I installed it (old one worked fine). So no warranty, and my fault. After installation, I ran the first load and it started leaking all over my hardwood floors. There is no float mechanism to shut off the valve if the electronics on the valve malfunction. The technician came out, told me it was a defective valve, and told me he would rather I replace the valve (it needed to be ordered, and he was very busy). So I ordered the valve, replaced it, and the leaking problem was solved. Unfortunately, I quickly learned that the door latch is very temperamental. The unit is absolutely installed correctly, but the door latch doesn't always want to close (yes, it's properly loaded too, level, etc.). Sometimes we have to close it 10 times or so before it will stay closed, and sometimes the door will open again part way though a cycle. I thought about ordering a new latch, but will probably just buy a new dishwasher. The new dishwasher will absolutely not be a GE. June 7, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Installation somewhat difficult Usually dishwashers are installed two ways, new install and remodel or replacement install. The direction seem to be for new install only. I'm sure this is done so you need to call a tech or pay for install, but DIYers are smart enough to install. Yet if you follow the instruction to the letter you may end up re-doing all your work. For Example, attaching water line to dishwasher after being placed in opening leads to barely being able to attach wate line. The more effective way is to attach water line to bottom and pull through opening. In fact most og the supply line should be attached an snaked through opening carefully, or you would find it extremely difficult to attach. Also, the floor protect pan is impossible to attach if replacing old dishwasher. Instruction say to remove pan and install later, Step 21 to be exact. . There is not enough clearance to get pan angled to put in to tabs if you wait until that Step. Glad mine didn't have a sensor or I would have to take out dishwasher just to attach sensor. Please take this in to consideration when writing instructions. June 11, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not GE. Best The door won't stay closed and it doesn't wash very well and doesn't heat dry dishes they are wet May 11, 2016
