Hi Kh- This is Sue at GE Appliances. We are sorry to hear of the issue with the door and glad to help. If the dishwasher door will not close or latch properly, check the installation of the dishwasher. If the door is hitting the cabinet, it will not close properly. The dishwasher must be aligned in the cabinet so it does not interfere with the closing of the door. Make sure the dishwasher is level. Make sure the upper rack is in the correct position. The rack is adjustable up or down 2" but should not be raised or lowered on one side only. If the rack is not level, it will not push in all the way. This prevents the door from closing all the way. I'm using the recommended soap (cascade complete). Half the time the pod doesn't even come completely out of the detergent tray and dissolve all the way. I washed a load three times today and it still didn't come clean. This is the second week we've had this.

In order for the dishes to clean properly, we recommend to make certain the water is entering the dishwasher at 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This may require running the hot water at your faucet a few seconds prior to starting the dishwasher. Next, please use the Wash Temp Boost and Heated Dry Options. You may even want to use the Steam Option. If the detergent cup does not open, check that tall utensils are not blocking same. If this does not help, then we recommend contacting GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance. I hope this helps! Read Less

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 470 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worst appliance purchase we've ever made.... I waited and waited to buy a new dishwasher......only to be really disappointed by this purchase...We basically are washing everything prior to loading in the dishwasher because it doesn't clean anything. Its basically a big sanitizer is all. Also, the detergent dispenser almost never opens up even if I just use gel dishwasher detergent. At first I thought it must be because of the pods getting stuck....nope doing it also with gel detergent. So I just leave the dispenser door open and let it run out and down the inside of the door. The dishwasher doesn't even clean most of the detergent that runs down on the inside of the door!! The rinse aid compartment is horrible to refill. You can barely fit any in so you're filling it all of the time. The stainless steel seems to be of low quality. The finish from day one is impossible to get all of the streaks and smears off. So not happy with my purchase. May 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by WORST dishwasher ever!!!! We have had this dishwasher for 6 months. From day 1 is hasn't gotten the dishes clean, and we have to clean the filter ever week to keep black mold from growing in it and then getting tossed all over our dishes. We had it services and were told this is normal...Now it is also leaking out the side of the door!! The gasket appears to be fine but we now regularly have a huge puddle in front of the dishwasher. I would give anything to have my old dishwasher back. (Which was also a GE and we had to get rid of it because it was recalled for a fire hazard. We bought this one b/c we got a rebate from GE as part of the recall.) I hate this dishwasher. Run!!!! Don't buy this!!! Your life would be easier if you had no dishwasher at all. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by not worth it We broke down last year and upgraded our appliances. We like the look of our new appliances but that's where the positive remarks stop! The dishwasher isn't as quiet as advertised. The top spinner that washes the top rack, keeps falling off. A wash/dry cycle takes forever. I would not recommend this dishwasher to anyone. June 8, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by What a mistake! Bought two of them for large kitchen. Door latch mechanism sucks on both of them. You never know if it's fully closed until the things starts beeping and whining 15 seconds after you walk away. The front silver ware racks are horrible. GE tech said to put them inside. GEE thanx for the design flaw. Just hand washing our spoons now. Wish I could return them. Never buying GE again. PS I'm a dishwasher loading perfectionist. It's not user error. May 22, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dishwasher unrepairable at 2 yrs 4 mths old (not that it ever actually cleaned) I 100% agree with other users who mention that the dishwasher doesn't clean dishes, even with the hottest, longest (4.5 hrs long) cycle. The dishes never quite fit in properly and the top drawer doesn't extend far enough for you to unload without having to really bend down and reach in. We have had minor leaking issues on and off and also regularly had the soap still undissolved in the tray at the end of the cycle. We'd switch detergents, change how we were loading it, and be back to semi-cleaned dishes for a while. Last month, it stopped heating. Fortunately we'd taken out the Home Depot Protection Plan for $60 so we had the guys out to repair it. After 4 attempts and over a month they gave up and declared that the unit cannot be repaired. Never should have bought this and will never buy a GE unit again. April 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DONT BUY, DOOR WOULD NOT LOCK, DISHWASHER WOULD NOT START I got this dishwasher from Home Depot. After going through all the installation, its door would just not latch and dishwasher would not start at all. Having been without a functioning dishwasher for a week and paying top dollars, its so frustrating that GE and Home Depot would sell such a piece of junk. I should have read the reviews before buying this. Having read the reviews now, with so many buyers having bad experience, I am completely frustrated. This kind of junk should not be in market at all. I will have to go through the pain others are going through and going by the experience of others, I am pretty sure these $800 are down the drain. January 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Regret this purchase We've had this dishwasher for about 6 weeks and have had problems from the start. Mainly, the detergent dispenser doesn't open at least half of the time. We end up running the wash cycle multiple times and eventually just give up. At first we used the detergent tabs but switched to the liquid thinking it might make a difference. It didn't. The top tray gets snagged on something and doesn't roll all the way out, making loading/unloading the top rack difficult. The silverware baskets on the front seemed like a good idea, but don't have much space once you consider you can't have stuff blocking the detergent dispenser. Our knives get stuck in the slots. The whole basket comes off too easily - if a utensil is caught on something when you try to pull it out the entire basket comes off the rack. I regret this purchase, but since installing it cost us $500 and took 5 hours (due to the weird layout of our kitchen & plumbing issues) I guess we're stuck with it for a while. I really wish we had went with a different model. If you're just wanting a mid-price stainless steel dishwasher to look good and match the rest of your appliance package this is fine. But if you intend to USE it ever, you'd be better off buying something else! April 6, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not what I was hoping for I bought this dishwasher in February of 2016. Within the first 2 weeks it started leaking out the front under the door of the washer. Since I run my washer at night when i go up to bed the water was on the hardwood floor all night and ended up warping my floor. It has leaked a few more times and we called a repair man out. He just couldnt figure out why it was doing it and left. It has now leaked again and they are coming out again today. Very frustrating to me since I don't want to ruin my wood floors. So now having to run it during the day which is inconvenient. It takes 123 minutes to run a regular cycle from start to finish. Also about 2 weeks ago the top rack just got jammed and now only comes out half of the way it is supposed to. This makes it hard to load the top rack. There are a couple of things I can say good about this washer and that is that it is quiet and it does clean well..... SO FAR! Based on other reviews ive read, im just waiting for something to go wrong there too! Im bummed this has happened. After living with a bad dishwasher for over a year I was so excited to have a good appliance. Not the case.I should also add that the silverware holders are placed in a horrible spot. When you pull out the racks to get dishes it is really easy to accidently pull them out and then you have to connect them back also the silverware can fall through the slots and end up in the base of the dishwasher. that was a really bad idea to place them there.
