Just place a container on the pull-out tray that easily fits large containers like pitchers, stockpots, and sport jugs, and press autofill. I'm a bit surprised I hear this as it's a bit loud. I replaced it w/ a 5 y/o side by side as we just upgraded w/ all Cafe appliances. Wondering if this is supposed to be as loud as I am hearing.

Hello NJ888- This is Lisa from GE Appliances. I am happy to help.
The normal operation of your refrigerator will cause some sound. The following list contains sounds that are normal.
A Chirping/barking/woof/howl sound can sometimes be heard as the damper door opens/closes.
A change in fan speed as the refrigerator responds to changes in temperature due to door opening.
A clicking/tic toc noise can be heard when the defrost timer switches on and off.
A click can be heard when the temperature control unit turns the unit on and off.
A boiling, gurgling, or knocking sound can be heard when the unit is running. This is caused by the circulation of refrigerant.
Gurgling sound in the door. This sound can be heard just after the door is closed because of the water in drain tube trap area. It can last several seconds.
A drip may be heard when defrost water is dripping into the pan beneath the refrigerator.
The icemaker will make a loud noise when cubes are dropped into the bucket.
A hum or click can be heard when the icemaker fills with water. This sound may be heard once or multiple times.
A cracking or popping sound can be heard when evaporator coils on Top Mount No Frost models are cooling after defrost.
Buzzing noises can be heard after getting water from the door dispenser. The noise should not last longer than 7 seconds.
A snapping sound will be heard about 4 seconds after removing a glass from a dispenser. This is the sound of the dispenser chute closing.
A clicking noise may be heard after a power shortage. This stems from the compressor trying to re-start itself. The noise could last for 3 to 5 minutes.
A hissing, sizzling, buzzing, or arching noise may be heard on self-defrost models. This is produced when water drips on defrost heaters.
If you feel it is extremely loud, we suggest contacting GE Factory Service at 800.432.2737. Thanks for checking.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It's a beast! We've only had this refrigerator for a couple of days. It's replacing a 16 year old refrigerator that was beginning to have too much attitude. (Bad attitude.) This is by far an upgrade from our previous refrigerator. And the price reflects the upgrade. Still, we were willing to purchase this at the premium price (sight unseen) because we recently purchase a Cafe gas stove. That has been incredible as well. The install went pretty smooth and the setup was easy. It didn't take long to figure out the front touch panel and now we're starting to get used to the new look in the kitchen. Nice job GE. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by don't buy Thus is my 4th service call in 6 months. Please you will save money not buying this fridge. Because you will not lose food due to fan going out which is a known problem with this model. 3 different fan motors and 1 circuit board in 6 month not to mention the 900 worth of food constantly waste thinking it fix after repairman leaves. 3 grand and can only buy what we can use in a couple of days. Person over the phone in customer service told me buy a cooler and put ice in it. Customer relations told me to buy a mini fridge and use. I told both of them I did not spend 3k to buy a mini fridge or cooler. Great company and customer service. Better off buying used and save the rest just not a ge. Never again September 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Steer Clear Away From This One! Loud, the ice goes all over the place and the food in the produce drawers freezes! Worst purchase ever! September 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst purchase ever We purchase a new GE refrigerator French doors with hot water The worst buy ever The doors doesn't close properly and the food got freezing in the refrigerator The customer service is horrible they don't show up the time frame for appointment was 8am-5pm When they show up they don't have the parts and they can't fix it and the new appointment takes another 10 days Horrible refrigerator Horrible service Horrible customer service April 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice BUT Be Careful Love the fridge, however on the 3rd day my K-Cup stopped working, I had water running down the bottom of the door. We called GE and they had somebody come out (a week) and check on it, and it ultimately came down to what they say was the K-Cup being clogged (Note - they said to only use K-Cup branded coffee or this could happen, funny thing was we were using the sampler pack they provided with the fridge that was K-Cup branded). The repairman cleaned it out and it started working, so with this knowledge I made sure I cleaned out the K-Cup every day. It has since been 3 weeks and it has happened 2 more times, I feel that this happening 3 times in 1 month that something is not right. February 25, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Save your money Ice Machine has been nothing but a problem since day 1. Had to call repair man for the 2nd time in 2 years for the ice machine that always freezes over. Repair man said that you can't put drinks in glass & then ice because it splashes up. News flash - we don't do that and we don't drink soda or juice. We have never been able to use the crushed ice feature because of the mess that makes. If you don't change the water filter as soon as it "expires," you're looking at even more problems. Those filters are 50-60$ each. We thought we were "upgrading" our appliances when we bought the Café series - nothing but an expensive hassle. January 5, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great except for the constant noise, which they say is normal. We bought ours with the house being constructed so cannot return it. It sits next to a wall behind which is my mothers bed headboard. She is unable to sleep well because all night long she is subjected to "hmmmmm, hmmmmmm, hmmmmmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmmmmmm, hmmmmm, hmmmmm". I called for repair but they said this is normal because of the high efficiency compressor and I just have to live with it. Might just throw it out and buy something else since we cannot return it. I wish I could return this item. If not for the _constant_ noise, it would be a very nice refrigerator. As is, it's rather junk. January 25, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Problems with Hot Water Dispenser Off the Bat I just bought this refrigerator and installed it, but when I click on the Hot Water button is says Hot Water is Disables, call 800-GECares. I've Googled and saw answers on multiple sites including this one that recommends 'Check to make sure Hot Water isn't disabled' BUT HOW DO I DO THIS?! None of the instruction manuals or answers on this website specifically say HOW TO DO THIS? Frustrated.... January 11, 2016
