Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Anon They Filter Water and Everything!!
These water filters were delivered as requested, that's kind of why I asked for them. They filter water as good as any water filter I've seen. Because that's what they do. They're water filters.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Bob Good product, but was hard to find----- obsolete?
Unfortunately, these filters are evidently nearing "obsolete parts" status for the filter we have, as we can no longer buy them in the store. Thank goodness, they were still available on-line!
They are good, simple yet effective filters, for a reasonable price.

Initially we purchased the more expensive model, but the water flow suffered. I put this one in and we got our water flow back. We use city water and now the water tastes great as it removes the chlorine.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by handynot wrong dimensions
this filter is to REPLACE the smaller GE fxutc model. Well it is TOO BIG to fit into the housing that I have had for 20 years. Also the dimensions on this filter say 2.25" diameter but it really is about 3" so it can only fit into a housing that is much bigger than all of the older units that are out there. And the other GE filters that are for lead, chemicals etc are the 2.5" size and are next to this filter on the shelf. So what do we do to find a basic chlorine/sediment filter that fits? Not at the Depot.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by PoundPound NOT for whole house use
WARNING: cartridge FXUTC is for drinking water use only because it only lets 1 gallon a minute go thru it (has a tiny orifice hole by design so water flows slow and has time to react with carbon filter stuff). So do NOT put it in a whole house filter arrangement. Filter FXUTC filters out 0.5-1 micron which is good. My well water is good but I got this filter to make sure no junk is in the coffee or ice or drinking water. Not sure how it would do with rotten egg or bad water. For whole house filter, use string or fiber filters BUT they will not remove chlorine well since flow is too fast. I put one of these for a drinking water tap only. PS: the black dirt stuff is activated carbon dust which needs to be flushed out as with most filters.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Toolman2 Best as an under sink filter
Water Filter Housing GE Model # GX1S01R
Requires some basic plumbing skills to install. Any reasonably handy person with a well-stocked tool box can do it. There are some additional fittings required. Once the job is done, you can get many years of service from these filter systems. I have installed several of these for myself in various homes and for customers. This model is best as an under sink filter not a “Whole House” system. The flow and water quality you get will depend on the filter cartridge selected. I have used 2 different filters (FXUVC and FXUTC) reviewed below.
Filter Model # FXUVC does a great job but also has a very low flow rate (less than 1gal/min). If you have really bad water, choose this one. In my home, my water is not real bad to start with so this filter lasted a full year. If your water has more contaminants, you will have to change the filter more often.
Model # FXUTC has a better flow rate (about 3 gal/min). My water isn’t all that bad to start with so this filter removes the little bit of “off taste” leaving us with sweet water at a very reasonable price. This filter will have to be changed more often than the FXUVC model. I anticipate changing the filter every 6 months. This leaves me with a very good value.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Robert The water filter delivers as promised.
The unit was a little difficult to open but the water filter went in easily and the seal was immediate. The filtered water has a good taste. I purchased 2 filters instead of 1 and am prepared for the change in August. It's also good to know that the water filter is a regularly stocked item at Home Depot.
