Does the GE Residential Electric Vehicle (EV) 30-Amp Level 2 Indoor Watt Station includes a plug?

In the outdoor model it specifcally states that it includes a plug, but the indoor model it does not. I assume it still does because it is part of the picture and it includes the cable, but could you confirm?

The CP02 Model is hardwired, the CP01 has a plug, not sure of the NEMA # but I assume a 6-50P would work.

Answer:
My indoor model didn't have a plug. It had a pigtail of wires to connect to a circuit. I had an outlet ready, but ended up taking off the wall receptacle, and using the extra foot of cable in the wall to come inside the unit to the power block. If you have an electrician run a 220v circuit, have them leave a little extra cable in the wall so you have some slack to work with.

It is a hardwired unit, so there is no input plug. You can easily add one yourself. Though I can't see the need for one.

There are two WattStation models, designated CP01 and CP02. CP01 is better suited for the average homeowner, as it simply plugs into a pre-installed 240-volt outlet.
These are differentiated not by "Indoor/Outdoor", but by connection mode.
CP01 includes a pre-installed AC connection cord with a NEMA 6-50P male plug on a short cord, about a foot long. In photographs, the AC cable is often not shown, but this model can be distinguished by the fact that it has a push-botton on/off switch. There are two small circular signal lamps on the front panel, above the recess where the output connector is stored. Just below the two signal lamps, there is a circular on/off button. An AC outlet of 40-ampere capacity is required for the WattStation, which requires supporting wiring not smaller than 8-gauge.
CP02 is intended for connection directly to house wiring, so it is not provided with an AC power cable or connector. However, the user can easily add his own AC cable and connector. It will require drilling a 3/4-inch hole in the plastic housing (some possible locations are pre-marked), as well as disassembly of the WattStation to access the internal connector blocks. Home Depot can supply suitable 10 gauge cable with ground, called "Service Cable" in any length, along with the typical connector, which is a NEMA 6-50P. The CP02 does NOT have an on/off switch, and this can be seen by the absence of the switch in the third circle on the panel, the one just an inch or so above the connector recess in the CP01.
The On/Off switch is not essential to operation of the WattStation. Its function is only to cut off the small standby power (a few Watts) when the unit is not needed and is simply idling. It seems to be related to commercial applications of the WattStation, where customers could interfere with the centrallized operation of multiple units.
CAUTION: If you are not qualified to do this re-wiring or are uncomfortable working with these connections, do not attempt this work yourself. Anyone who has done two-phase house wiring can be of great help and keep you safe. The manufacturer recommends professional installation of the AC connection and the WattStation itself. Otherwise, get Model CP01 as well as professional installation of the 240-Volt AC outlet. Read Less

Answer:
By plug it is talking about the charger to the power of your home. Both models include the plug to your car. One model can be plugged in, while the other is wired directly to power.

Hello Bror and thank you for your question.
The G E Residential Electric Vehicle (EV) 30-Amp Level 2 Indoor Watt Station is hard-wired and would therefore not have a plug. The GE Residential Electric Vehicle (EV) 30-Amp Level 2 Indoor/Outdoor Watt Station has a NEMA 6-50P plug connector.
Best wishes on your project.

Answer:
The wire size depends on the size of the breaker you use in the panel. GE recommends 40A breakers, which require 8-guage copper wire. However, I find that the product works with 30A breakers, which require only 10-guage wire.

Answer:
Hello Nick, I’m Chris from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question.
This charger requires 30 amps which means a minimum of 10 gauge wire for the supply on a double 30 amp circuit breaker. If the run from the service box to your charging station is long, consider using 8 gauge wire instead of the minimum 10.
I hope this helps,
Chris.

EV Charger Indoor Level-2 WattStation Wall Mount is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but a few minor flaws - Instructions are confusing and inconsistent - On one page it says use a 3/8" bolt and on the other it says 1/4" 1/4" is right. - It says there is a template for mounting included, it is not. - Later it says use the bracket as a template, but this does not help located the power hole. - The specs forgot to mention that it does not have a power off switch. So it's on all the time. - Don't take the plastic off the cover till you are done. I put a little scratch on mine - The power input holes are behind the binding post. That made pulling and routing the power wires a challenge for these heavy gauge wires. - Otherwise works OK so far

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great for the Volt -- maximizes EV miles I was able to utilize our electric utility's rebate program to cover the cost of the unit and installation, so price was not a big factor. That said, this seems to be the best value out there, especially with it being UL listed. There are other options for less money, but most others are not UL listed. Works great for my Volt. Plug the car in right after work, and I'm able to use EV range again in the evening if I need to go out again. Looks nice on the wall too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The GE WattStation is built with Industrial Quality I bought my WattStation through HomeDepot.com, and it was delivered promptly. This product provides the connection point necessary for charging plug-in electric cars, and is fitted with the SAE standard J1772 car interface plug, on a long cable that is very conveniently flexible. When connected, the WattStation communicates with the car and ensures that the car is ready to receive a charge, and, importantly, that there is no circuit fault or other problem. Only then does the WattStation send power over the cable into the car. This is a "Level 2" system, which means that it will provide charging current of up to 30 amperes. At 240 volts, this delivers power to the charger in the car at a rate of up to 7200 Watts. At this level, a car will charge twice as quickly as with the Level 1 (120-volt) system usually delivered with plug-in cars. The physical form is stylish and is designed to provide a place for neatly looping the long, heavy cable around the housing when not in use. Internally, the components of the WattStation are robust, industrial grade. Mounting is simplified by an included steel plate which is first attached to the wall. The unit is then slipped into position and secured in place with a key lock. It will not easily be stolen or moved around, even if mounted outdoors. Two models are available. One model comes with a short AC able and plug already installed for use with a NEMA 6-50R 240-volt receptacle. The other model is intended for direct connection into house wiring, although it can also be fitted with a 10-gauge service cable and suitable connector for your available 240-volt AC receptacle. The WattStation is no lightweight, at about 30 pounds, but is sturdily constructed and appears capable of many years of reliable service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast Shipping, Works Great! My WattStation arrived in only 2 business days! I installed it very easily with help from another person. The key at the bottom is a little tricky, but you'll need to insert the key and unlock the lock and then lift the unit into the mounting bracket with the key in. The key barely fits through the hole inthe bracket, but there is no other way. Once the key is through, the unit will seat properly and you can lock it and remove the key. The LED light is on constantly and is very bright. It lights up my whole garage, but I don't mind it. If it annoys you, it can be disconnected very easily inside the unit by detaching a small clip. When you plug it into your EV, a few seconds later, you'll here a relay pop over, then the quiet hum of a transformer as the car charges. Its nice, b/c you know its working.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works perfect for the Fords! Cmax Energi charges in about 2hrs. Ok I bought this one on sale for 2 reasons. 1st is because it comes with a 3 year warranty and all my EV customers talked great things. However this one was less money then the other GE. This charge center has no on and off button and is indoors only. The other GE charge center that is $849 is weather proof and and has a on and off button. However this one shuts off as soon as the reaches full charge. The car actually controls it so I don't think a physical power button is needed. Great unit and great rebate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good charger, works great Great charger. We love how it charges our Volt in 4 hours compared to 10 hours with the 110 charger included with the car. I almost didn't buy the charger due to reviews saying the charger was very loud when the contactors switched on and off but our charger is very quiet. I saved some money by buying the hard wired version which was on sale for way less money than the plug version and had my electrician create a cord and plug for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great . Works great charging my volt. Much faster than 120 v charging.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as advertized and looks good Should have the power on-off button like the outdoor model. Everything is already on the control board, only the front panel button is missing. Wall mounting can be troublesome because there is only one access hole for the power cable. Thus there is a 50/50 chance it will be on the wrong side of the stud you are mounting the unit on. This means you've got to notch the wall board and stud to get the cable on the opposite side.
