Rated 5 out of 5 Excellent Quality, some minor drawbacks
The GE Wattstation is a fine quality wall charger-point. (I say Charge Point because NONE of these are actually "chargers", the "charger" is already built into your car. These are Electrical Safety access points).
On the inside, the Wattstation has industrial-grade relays, fuses and connections - clearly built for reliability and long life. On the outside it is a sleek, modern looking unit with a curiously bright lighted ring around the front plug nest, which is eye-catching, but serves no significant purpose except perhaps as a large nightlight for the garage... though in itself is somewhat useful. While the unit is on, the white lighted ring remains on drawing only 5-watts of power in standby mode. However you can press a button to turn the unit completely off. The unit has two indicators on the front; one lights green when the charge point is actively providing power to your car, the other will light red only if there is a fault condition. The front panel is gloss black plastic. The unit comes with a 20ft car cord which is adequate length for most people. Five more feet of cord would have vastly improved the versatility of this unit.
When connected, you hear a large industrial relay "clack", and charging begins. There is a slight hum from the unit - a result of the relay coil being energized. The unit comes with a unique wall mount bracket that screws to the wall, but holds the unit itself by way of capturing three large cut-outs on the back. It has a locking key to prevent wall removal... but will allow you to take the unit with you easily after unlocking it from the bracket. This might be useful if you live in an apartment - but it is difficult to see this being used in practice. Some people appear to complain about a "loud humming or buzzing noise" while the unit is operating. I have learned that this is actually tiny vibrations of the relay, when it is energized. If the user did not solidly mount the unit to the wall, or if the unit is loose in some way... that relay vibration will resonate through the unit making the sound much LOUDER. If you install the unit solidly and securely... any noise during charging will be barely noticeable.
The Source Power cord is a NEMA 6-50P, 240V 40A, cord - only 1 foot long. I replaced/extended my source power cord because it was just too short. Otherwise you would have to have the source power outlet immediately next to this unit... which might hinder you from neatly wrapping the car cord around the unit frame. This unit is HUGE. At the front face the unit is 24-inches top to bottom, 16-inches wide, and after being mounted, stands 7-inches away from the wall. However it is very convenient to simply loop the cord around the unit body.
It is simple to install if you already have the 220V outlet very nearby. One long (hidden) bracket mounts to the wall with three screws... you then simply lift the charger up and lock it to the bracket, then plug it into a 220V socket - similar to a clothes dryer. It comes with two security keys for that lock which is on the bottom of the charge unit. The front plug "nest" protects the car cord plug from damage and debris. The plug nest has a METAL receiver hook which the METAL plug latch locks to, when not in use.
- High Quality
- Industrial grade components inside
- Arguably, good looks (modern?)
- High quality, flexible car cord
- The J1772 car connector uses a METAL latch (not cheap plastic)
- It is SIMPLE to install.
- It's BIG
- The car cord is only 20 ft long (but adequate)
- The source power cord is a SHORT 1 foot length
I can recommend this unit, despite its few drawbacks. The quality of the internal components are industrial-grade, most of us would expect nothing less from GE's industrial power division.
I am extremely pleased. I expect many, many solid years of durability. The price is very competitive especially when compared to smaller units that do not appear to use as high a quality of components.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by JimV Works well with my Nissan Leaf.
The GE WattStation is doing a fine job charging my new Nissan Leaf. It is an attractive unit, was relatively simple for the electricians to install, and has worked well. My only complaints have to deal with wanting a slightly longer charging cord (say 20 feet), and the as of this writing unresolved problems with the reports of some Leaf owners of problems with the unit. We have had no problems with it whatsoever though.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by EVfans great charger, easy and nice looking
We bought this charger because it got good reviews and didn't look like some industrial electric box. So far (about a month) it's living up to its reviews. It charges easily and simply and quickly, and wrapping the cord around the charger helps at all get put away neatly. I really like that I can turn the charger off when I'm not using it so it's not wasting electricity between charges. I also like that it can be mounted as a plug-in instead of hardwired. We are going to have to move it when we finish some driveway at work, and the ability to plug and unplug makes that simpler. Ours is mounted outside so it is being exposed to rain and wind, etc., and so far so good.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Almae Works great with my Ford Focus Electric
I had an electrician connect mine and it didn't work, at first. I called the customer service line and they were able to send a replacement one with a paid return shipper. I got the new unit within 2 days.
After the new one was installed, I had trouble clicking in the charger adapter to the car. There's a lip above the part that clicks into the car that was preventing the adapter to click in, but I realized that it was because the adapter on the car was a bit crooked. So, I have to turn it an eighth of an inch counterclockwise for it to snap in. Once we realized that, it's been easy to use.
This works great with the Value Charge feature on my Ford Focus Electric. The white light is always on unless the power it's connected to is turned off. I haven't had any issues with it faulting, either.
I also live in a condo complex, so the lock feature on the mount is very comforting.
