Why are the multi-color lights advertised as warm glow like the old incandescent?

I have always used incandescent color lights for my Christmas tree. I have tried various brands of LED lights but was always disappointed at how bright and cool they look - actually giving the room a blue artificial glow. This year I tried these and am very disappointed. They are no different than all the other LED lights on the market and they look nothing like the old fashioned incandescent. How is 'warm glow' defined with LED lights. Does HD sell any other LED color lights that may have a softer lighting?

Last year I was looking for a set of LED lights that would most closely resemble warm incandescents. After a ton of research, I landed upon these. By that point, every place that carried them was sold out and I only managed to grab one box of them. This year, I made sure I ordered them pre-holiday boom. I ordered six boxes and took each of them out to test. Of the six, only three were a warm color temperature. Probably around 3000K, whereas the other three were around 4500K and much too white/blue to match. I'll be returning those and taking a gamble on another three boxes. If I keep getting 50% odds, I should have my light sets complete in no time! Seriously, love the lights, hate the color inconsistency between boxes. Meaning, they're still worth it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from White color was not consistent These seem like good, quality lights. Unfortunately, the warm white color was not the same from set to set. I ordered 4 sets online. 2 sets were a yellowish white, and 2 were more bluish. Now I have to return half and hope the replacement will match, or wait until they are available in stores and test them before buying. This is very annoying.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 100 count LED mini GE multi Purchased over 20 sets of these last year. Used outside on my trees. This year at least 16 sets had issues. They are junk, make sure to save your boxes and receipt if you decide to waste your money.

In the fall of 2015 I read about these on a blog post reviewing the top LED holiday lights. These received the highest rating but unfortunately it was too late in the season for me to find any. They appeared to be sold out online and in stores everywhere. So, I set myself a calendar reminder for September of 2016 to make sure I could get them. They are truly the best I've ever seen! They're bright, but not too bright, not a "blue" white at all but a nice warm white. They don't have any of that weird "flicker" that some older style LED bulbs have had. These are perfect and they're definitely worth the money!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dont last long I bought GE LED Mini lights after hearing they will last longer than standard lights. They were great for the first season, but the second season I had a bunch of half strings even though the light bulbs themselves were fine. I packed them carefully after the first season and was very frustrated since they cost three times the amount of standard lights. So I paid a three times the amount for the same results as standard lights, at best.

I researched these (the multicolor in particular) and from what I could tell these are the closest things to incandescent as one can get at this time. My wife and I are relatively particular when it comes to lights and color. While these are not exactly like incandescent multicolor, they are definitely the closest I've seen. They are a little bit brighter than incandescents but not that much--some may even like these better. We were after the "twinkly" look of the M5 incandescents, and these M5 LEDs do a pretty good job simulating them. The bulb shape is similar to what we used to have with incandescents, and the way they glow is similar. I could argue that these are even prettier, but I haven't yet hung them on our tree to be really sure. We bought these prior to buying a tree this year and waited for these to arrive so we could see if we would go with these and then buy an unlit tree or to see if we didn't like these and would go with a lit (integrated) tree. As soon as I plugged these in my wife and I said, "These are great; Let's do the unlit tree and hang these on it." I then promptly ordered the tree I had selected. We are pretty picky about these things--having both been in the trades, having met at The Home Depot, and having worked together in the paint department for years helping others with color selection. I obviously can't speak about how durable these are...I'm only speaking about mirroring incandescents and NOT being the crazy-bright LEDs that I've seen too much of.

Last year I spent a fairly ridiculous amount of time researching LED Christmas lights. Like so many people, I wanted soft white lights, and I wanted the energy savings of LEDs. My husband wanted colored lights. I opted for a mix. According to my research, there really are no great LED lights. None are as warm as incandescent. But I was willing to go with slightly harsher, longer-lasting lights in the name being green. GE Colorite came out on top. Unfortunately, by the time I figured this out, they were all but impossible to get. I opted for GE Stay Bright instead. They were less expensive, also from GE, and easy to find at another store. I figured there couldn't be that big of a difference. What a mess. The blue bulbs started to die one by one within about a week. The white was never quite steady, giving a subtle strobe-like flicker that is enough to drive one crazy. This year, I bought Colorite early. I just got home and plugged them in. Here are my thoughts: 1.) The white lights vary by box. I bought three boxes of white. Two have a warm yellow glow that I am very pleased with (considering they are LEDs.) The third box definitely has more of a pink glow than a yellow glow. I have no idea why the lights are different between boxes. 2.) I dug out a string of white Stay Brights from last year for comparison. The Stay Brights are whiter than any of the three boxes of Colorite, but look more similar to the yellowish Colorite than the oddball pink box. 3.) The color lights seem fine and aren't bright enough to be bothersome or glaring. They are LEDs and anyone in love with incandescents will know the difference, but if they last for years and reduce energy usage, I am happy to make the tradeoff. 4.) Durability remains to be seen. I am writing this review really early in hopes of helping other shoppers because I know how tricky it is to find good LEDs. 5.) As of now, I am giving them a 4, in part because the yellowish whites are surprisingly lovely and in part because I have already managed my expectations of LEDs. These are already a step up from where I was last year. I may return/exchange the pinkish white box.
