Hello bill - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. All dishwashers built under the counter or the sink are designed for hard-wiring. You will have to check with your electrical codes in your area to see if it can be hard wired or if it should have a plug. We recommend having an electrician install your dishwasher. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Hello KerryP - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. This is a nice dishwasher. It has the ability to lock the controls by pressing and holding the "Control Lock" or "Heated Dry" pad for at least 3 seconds. It does not prevent the door from being opened. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 83 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very pleased! I purchased this on line along with installation on this dishwasher.....I was very pleased with the installation and now the dishwasher! Really like the timer on it as well February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by shorter height fits smaller opening. It fit inside the opening after we had a tile floor installed! October 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 2nd Review after having several months Ok, so after having this Dishwasher awhile now....this is what I have found. It still performs amazingly well and the only things I have discovered that I don't like is that after loading and pushing the bottom tray back in...the top of the Silverware basket gets hung on the side of the dishwasher. (not really sure WHY they have tops anyway.) The second is that it seems a bit harder to get certain Dishes to stand at times...they want to fall over and sometime have to readjust them when pushing bottom tray back in. Stainless is really harder to keep clean than I antiicipated...ie. finger prints from Grandchildren etc. All in all it is still working well. May 2, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Piece of garbage 18 months later and it went out. Technician coming out to check it, but at this point it doesn't matter what he says. One year warrantee is ridiculous. Goes to show how much confidence they have in their products. Never buy GE again. April 3, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not the right dishwasher for a family or serious cook This dishwasher was installed yesterday. It was purchased because I needed a low profile dishwasher due to sub floor being raised. I did my first load of dishes last night and right away was disappointed in the space to load dishes. The lay out of the bottom rack is great if you have nothing but plates to wash. There is only one place to put a skillet, cake pan, or anything like that unless you take out the silverware tray. The silverware tray is a waste of space with the three compartments and I am sure I will just throw away to two side attachments. This dishwasher will only work great for someone who does very little cooking so only has some plates, cups, and glasses to wash. Forget about putting any large pots or pans in it unless you want to lay them flat and get one or two items per load. I can't even get my favorite skillet in the dishwasher unless I lay it flat and then it take 3/4 of the rack. On a good note, the dishwasher did a great job on cleaning the dishes. It is pretty quite with more of a noise of water running than a loud motor sound. Still in all I would take back my old dishwasher in a heart beat. Once again a good dishwasher for someone who does not have a family or not do much cooking, otherwise look for something else. March 7, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great Dishwasher BUT…it is way too small. I bought this dishwasher online and liked the looks and features. It works great, BUT even though I checked the reviews I was very surprised at the small capacity once it was installed. It is literally only about two-thirds (if even that) of the capacity of my old dishwasher (tried to attach photo of the small top rack, but no luck). The dishwasher is described as ADA compliant, which you would think is good, but the product description doesn't say that this dishwasher holds many fewer dishes as a result. I wish the phone operator who took my order would have mentioned this; I would have ordered a different machine. I would only get this dishwasher if one needed an ADA compliant machine, in which case this would be a great purchase. April 16, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Why did I wait so long? I live in a city which provides water services to its inhabitants. I had been creeping along with a 20+ year old dishwasher - the very model of inefficiency - and my water bill reflected it. I decided to take the plunge and spring for a new DW. Not only am I completely thrilled with its performance but I am am also very impressed with how quiet it runs and what a great job it does cleaning dirty dishes, pots and glassware with a modicum of energy required. A "win-win" all around. October 7, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not thrilled I have an older home that still has the original cast iron sink so this is the only dishwasher that would fit under the edge of the sink and countertop so I had no choice and bought it sight unseen. The pluses are that it looks very nice, I like the stainless steel interior, and it's very quiet. The minuses are that the normal cycle seems excessively long, the top rack doesn't pull all the way out, it's smaller than my old one, and overall just seems awkward to load but it's only been a few weeks so I'm sure I'll get used to it. I was really excited thinking about having my first new (not used) dishwasher in black like I've been wanting but overall I'm disappointed every time I have to load dishes in it. There's a film on some of the dishes and glasses too but I haven't tried the recommended rinse yet so I guess that's why. But that didn't happen with my old dishwasher so it seems strange it's required with this one. March 24, 2014
