Hi piciunis-this is Sue from GE Appliances. We are excited to hear of your interest! The stainless steel is not smudge-proof. Check out model GDF540HMFES in slate. Slate is a highly engineered, low-gloss matte metallic paint finish and resists fingerprints. Thanks for checking with us!

I love my new dishwasher color but am not happy with the performance. My Cascade Action Packs do not dissolve when my wash is complete. I open the door and the plastic casing is stuck to the inside of the soap dispenser cup and soap is all over my doors and on my dishware and glasses.

I've tried Finish also and the same thing. It seems the packet doesn't dissolve or is left behind because all I get when I open the door after the wash is complete is soap dripping out of the dispenser and clumps all over my dishes with the plastic casing which holds the soap still there.

Do I have to use powders only which is going back in time...lol

We recommend making sure your water temperature is set to at least 120 degrees. If it takes a while for your water to get hot at your kitchen sink. We recommend turning your hot water on first and then turn your dishwasher on. Also make sure you don't have a bowl in the left front corner of the dishwasher. This can block the jets and not allow the detergent to get properly dissolved. Thanks so much for checking with us. Have a good day! Read Less

Answer:
Hello HappyMomma,
This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help.
Yes, this run time is normal. A Normal wash cycle can run for up to two hours or more depending on the options selected, ie. Steam, Wash Temp, and Heated Dry.
Thank you for checking.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 290 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works fine After reading most of the reviews on this site as well as on the GE appliance site I bought this for replacement of another dishwasher that was close to 15 years old. Although everyone has an unique application I find this appliance to be rather nice it definitely is an improvement over what I previously had. Some of the comments about the machine not cleaning the dishes and leaving soap residue behind, I have found not to be the case with mine. I think that one must search and use the different settings that the machine offers to find the best case scenario for their particular application . The machine is extremely quiet and I find it to do a very admirable job cleaning my pots and pans dishes glasses and yes wineglasses as well. Read the comments and the instructions would be my advice and ensure that one uses a really good rinse agent to help remove the film that some people claim that the machine leaves on their dishes August 22, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dissappointed Dissappointed practically have to wash dishes before starting cycle. Have called GE and they asked us to call Home Depot. Home Depot has not returned two calls. August 25, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed This has nothing to do with the product. The GE contractors are limited to installing the product at home whose plumbing outfits are made of PVC pipes. Most homes I know are fitted with PVC pipes for plumbing. I've selected this product because I owned several GE appliances that lasts for years and reliable. Please review your contract requirements and restrictions. The contractors refused to install the product due to technicality or policy restrictions. This will only increase your clientele interest thus losing revenues. January 21, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Product Had a Drain Problem Bought the dishwasher and had it delivered without a problem. I had it installed and found that it would not drain. June 9, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible dishwasher. Don't buy this dishwasher was advertised as a steel tub but when I received it, I realized it was not steal tub also after installation I realized that the dishwasher was damaged with a huge crack I had to have it replaced.Takes a very long time for a wash cycle and doesn't dry properly.save yourself the trouble and do not buy this washer. March 10, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by junk Bought this product 1 year and 3 days ago. When it first arrived, the blade holder inside was broke and needed to be replaced. Doesn't clean silverware at all. Cleans only plates and bowls pretty good. Just today the inlet water valve failed and needs to be replaced (coincidence that it fails just out of warranty.). Do not spend your money on this. It is junk. March 14, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not satisfied - let the other reviews speak for themselves. Be prepared for extremely L O N G wash times. With unit set to Normal cycle and Heat Boost expect wash cycle to run almost 2 hours, even before the dry cycle kicks in. It does an "ok" job on washing but if you do not select heated dry, expect to towel dry your dishes, even if you start the washer before bed and open it in the morning. For the "steam" feature, no great plus. If I could return I would. January 31, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Dishwasher Ever Owned! We have had this dishwasher for 2 years and I can't believe we put up with it for this long. This was an expensive dishwasher when we purchased it in 2014. The dispenser door gets stuck all the time and will not open. The wash cycle is so long and dishes do not come out clean or dry. The worst thing, however, is that the door will not latch. We have had service out several times due to the door not latching. First they rearranged the silverware trays, then they replaced the gasket. It worked fine for a couple of washes, then went right back to not latching. Sometimes, after much struggle of holding the door closed and starting the wash cycle while holding the door closed manually for 10 minutes, it will finally "latch"....only an hour later into the wash cycle, start beeping as the latch lets loose and we have to repeat the whole process of holding the door closed while it washes. Yesterday, I could not get the door to latch no matter what I did and finally resorted to shoving a kitchen chair under the door handle to hold the door closed until it finished it's cycle. And before GE tries to say that we aren't loading it right or we have something obstructing the dispenser...that is bull. We have tried every configuration of loading this thing with NO OBSTRUCTIONS and NO SILVERWARE hanging beyond the basket. Bottom line: The latch is too weak and will not hold the door closed. This has been a waste of money & lost time out of work waiting on serviceman from GE. Will be looking at replacing this dishwasher soon and it won't be with a GE model. I'm afraid I have been put off GE appliances for life. May 26, 2016
