I love my new dishwasher color but am not happy with the performance. My Cascade Action Packs do not dissolve when my wash is complete. I open the door and the plastic casing is stuck to the inside of the soap dispenser cup and soap is all over my doors and on my dishware and glasses.

I've tried Finish also and the same thing. It seems the packet doesn't dissolve or is left behind because all I get when I open the door after the wash is complete is soap dripping out of the dispenser and clumps all over my dishes with the plastic casing which holds the soap still there.

Do I have to use powders only which is going back in time...lol

We recommend turning your hot water on first and then turn your dishwasher on. Also make sure you don't have a bowl in the left front corner of the dishwasher. This can block the jets and not allow the detergent to get properly dissolved. Thanks so much for checking with us. Have a good day! Read Less

Hi piciunis-this is Sue from GE Appliances. We are excited to hear of your interest! The stainless steel is not smudge-proof. Check out model GDF540HMFES in slate. Slate is a highly engineered, low-gloss matte metallic paint finish and resists fingerprints. Thanks for checking with us!

Answer:
Hello HappyMomma,
This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help.
Yes, this run time is normal. A Normal wash cycle can run for up to two hours or more depending on the options selected, ie. Steam, Wash Temp, and Heated Dry.
Thank you for checking.

Front Control Dishwasher in White with Steam Cleaning is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 330.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent I have had this machine for almost a month and i can say that it definitely washes glassware better than my old one. However, if you use the steam cycle, the dishwasher remains so wet inside (for days) even after the heated dry cycle. There is literally water dripping from everywhere and even your dishes get wet while unloading them from all the condensation. I have been using the autosense cycle since and the results are pretty good. Not sure i am crazy about the cutlery basket's location - have a feeling there is no sufficient water reaching it and if i had to chose, i would definitely prefer the basket inside on the rack. Overall, a decent purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Dishwasher This dishwasher is beautiful and amazingly quiet. The interior is a hybrid stainless and the racks are adjustable and the silverware baskets hand on the front of the racks and are on both the upper and lower rack leaving the entire area of the rack for dishes. Both silverware baskets are removable. Has a steam function and a boosted temp wash as well as a sani cycle plus it will also sense the amount of dirt or you can run normal or light cycles. One note is make sure you use a drying agent or rinse agent because all the new dishwashers I have seen or heard of do not dry well without it because of new government energy efficiency standards. I thought there was something wrong with the drying and once I added the rinse agent it drys like I am use to.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beautiful slate finish, terrible washer! I purchased this dishwasher at my local Home Depot, along with the matching fridge, range and microwave. They arrived on time and were carefully brought in and hooked up by the Home Depot. I appearance is very nice, I love how much easier they are to keep clean compared to my previous stainless appliances, I really like all the appliances except for the dishwasher..... Half the time the soap doesn't open and when it does, it seems to deploy too late and leaves soap everywhere or just all over the door. Having to run my washer twice seems like a money put and a waste of time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Read Your Manual, and You'll Be Fine The manual recommends pacs. When I tried liquid detergent, it emptied incompletely and left a mess running down my nice stainless interior door. Everything came out sparkling clean when I used pacs instead. This machine is smartly designed and has more interior space than my previous model. I love that upper & lower racks provide plenty of space for silverware. Note that heat dry is not turned on by default the first time you plug in the machine; you just push the button to turn it on, then it remembers your preferences. I thought the dry feature was broken the first time I used it, but I simply hadn't read the instructions!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really performs! This dishwasher is fantastic for the price! It truly takes away any food residue on the dishes. We put this to the test every time since we always have bowls with stuck-on oatmeal and it's always gone! Because of this, we use the Heavy cycle with the steam and heat dry options. Our small plastic lids stay on the fold-down racks located on the upper sides. Yes, the inner door is still wet when the cycle is complete but the dishes aren't, which is what we care about. One word of advice when you get your dishwasher (or anything else!), check and double-check your item to make sure it looks okay and the door functions without any problems. Ours had a defective (warped) tub and the door was rubbing the upper left corner when you try to close it. No problem, we called GE within 48 hours of receiving it and a repairman came out and inspected..................since it was not cost effective to replace the tub, they recommended a replacement. Called HD and a replacement was scheduled to arrive in a week. Ten stars for HD!! Our only worry is the door latch..........it's made of hard plastic. Why plastic on a mechanism that's heavily used????? Overall, the dishwasher performs great! Soooooo quiet!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get To Know This Dishwasher I like the features of this dishwasher, especially the upper silverware container. It allows you to put in spoons and forks without opening the door wide open. It is much quieter than my old dishwasher and the dishes come out clean! Something you should know..., if you are like me and don't like to use a heated dry cycle, you need to open the door after the machine concludes the cycle and leave it open for 3-5 minutes. You will find the dishes will be nice and dry. Don't do this and they will be wet. So be patient and you'll save time and electricity!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Tips for getting clean dishes Purchased this model for the slate finish. Initially had a problem with the dishes coming out still dirty. Did some research and discovered some tips. I use the Cascade tablets. Also, make sure the Rinse Agent holder is always full. Not sure why this is necessary, but it made a BIG difference. Our hot water heater isn't the best, so I also run the kitchen faucet until the water is not, then select boost water temperature and steam. Now it cleans pretty well. Regarding the design, I am not fond of the location of the silverware holders. You cannot place knives in the top holder or the door won't close. I moved the bottom outside holder to inside. Also, on the bottom shelf, the prongs are farther apart than necessary which means it is a little more of a challenge to place small items. Bottom line: If you want the slate finish and need a front panel, it is a decent dishwasher and you can probably make it work if you use these tips.
