Answer:
Yes. Turn off the cold water valve and put a bowl under where the hose connects with the pipe to catch the leaks. After the cartridge is changed, turn the valve back on and run the cold water until it's clear.

Answer:
No it does not, although I do. I have an old house and trust nothing when it comes to water. It only takes 30 seconds to turn off the main water supply, 30 seconds to change the filter, and 30 seconds to turn the water back on.

Answer:
No: it is a filtration system designed for a main water line to a sink. With some other parts and pieces, it could be adapted to a refrigerator but that is not what this filter is for.

I would recommend that you indicate, on the box, or with directions, what is required to install the replacement filter. The replacement filter, did not indicate that all that was needed was to turn the old filter 1/4 turn, and then pull it down. Fortunately. I had saved the original box which had this information - the replacement filter box did not. I had since forgotten the proceedure from when I installed it two years ago. So far, after one day of replacement, the filter seems to be working fine. Thanks for askinng.

It has worked perfectly, the unit was very easy to install and the cartridge twist into place. The price of the unit and replacement cartridges is fair. s

But this unit says can be replaced without shutting water supply off. And mine worked as described until the third replacement cartridge. Do yourself a favor and shut the supply off.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Difficult to change cartridge I finally managed to replace the cartridge after close to an hour of work. Removing the cartridge was very hard. I had to remove it while it's hanging on the wall under the kitchen sink, using it for added leverage. It's a good thing the bracket was firmly in place. Installation of the new cartridge was equally difficult. To push it all the way in was hard as it felt like it was hitting something inside the receptacle. Then the 1/4 turn was also hard, and I was only able to do it by using the wall bracket for leverage, similar to the removal as I mentioned before.
