Customer Questions & Answers

Does the water from the supply have to be turned off before removing and replacing the filter cartridge?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes. Turn off the cold water valve and put a bowl under where the hose connects with the pipe to catch the leaks. After the cartridge is changed, turn the valve back on and run the cold water until it's clear.

After only 2 days why is water pressure low? Hot water side is fine

Reinstalled it again and same results
Asked by: Yoyo
I am assuming that your filter is on your cold water line. Is it screwed all the way in to the holder? If the installation is good, I would take it out, dump the water, and take it back to HD for an exchange. It is probably defective. I never had that problem.

How do you remove them

First time changing no direction
Asked by: steve
Hold the top of the canister (filter holder) with one hand, and twist the filter only to the left (counter clockwise) with the other hand. The filter screws into the holder. Careful, it is full of water and heavy. Hold the removed filter upright until you can dump it out. Put the new filter in by holding the canister top with one hand, inserting the filter tip into the top, and twisting to the right. You will feel it click when it locks in place.

Does this filter remove clorine or does it simply remove the taste of clorine?

Asked by: shiv
I believe the box tells you what it removes. That would be a question for GE, who made it and tested it.

I would recommend that you indicate, on the box, or with directions, what is required to install the replacement filter. The replacement filter, did not indicate that all that was needed was to turn the old filter 1/4 turn, and then pull it down. Fortunately. I had saved the original box which had this information - the replacement filter box did not. I had since forgotten the proceedure from when I installed it two years ago. So far, after one day of replacement, the filter seems to be working fine. Thanks for askinng.

It has worked perfectly, the unit was very easy to install and the cartridge twist into place. The price of the unit and replacement cartridges is fair. s

But this unit says can be replaced without shutting water supply off. And mine worked as described until the third replacement cartridge. Do yourself a favor and shut the supply off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as expected, filter easy to change Filter was originally installed about 3-4 years ago. It was never changed. I just changed it for the first time. After I figured out how much torque was needed, removal was straightforward. Some water spilled out. Not sure if that is expected, but it wasn't a lot. It may not be the best quick disconnect, but seems reasonable. Probably because of the time the ok filter spent in there, there was some brown stuff around the gaskets. I tried to towel out the holder in case it was some slime build up. Then I installed the new filter. I think total time to do this again would be less than 1 min to remove and install. I wonder if the commenters saying it was difficult have hard water (I have non-hard water, no softening needed). This is just a sediment and chlorine filter. For some locations that may not be what you need. Check with your local water utility before getting this kind of filter.
