Customer Questions & Answers

How sensitive is the devise?

I want to leave my single hung window slightly open for fresh air. Would this devise set off when an intruder slide the window up to make an entry?
Asked by: Joe
I don't believe it would. I had to tap the window fairly hard to get it to alarm and that was on the High setting. You will probably need to get a motion detection type of sensor for that.

How far should this sensor be located?

Should this be on the ceiling for the patio sliding glass door? or should this be attached on to the glass door?
Asked by: Kris
This question is not applicable to this device, which is a stand-alone device. you might be thinking of a wireless alarm systems glass break detector where the sensor location in relation to the main alarm panel is important. With this alarm, you would buy one for every door or window that you want to protect and each one would work separately and independently.

alarm reset

How long does the alarm sound before it resets?
Asked by: SS
It has an on-off switch on the side that is used for on-off AND alarm reset. This is different from some smoke alarms that have a reset button on them, but it works in the same fashion. There is a test button, too, but it is only for testing the viability of the 4 batteries.

Customer Reviews

Glass Vibration Alarm is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install, nice and loud, not overly sensitive. The packaging is the usual plastic blister pack, opens with scissors. Battery cover has a screw so not likely to fall off. Batteries are included and are four button cells. (They go in + side up, all four,) The alarm has an on/off switch and a high/low alarm sound switch. I couldn't tell the difference between the high and low, but I'm 62 so... It installs as simply as cleaning the glass, peeling the protection sheet and carefully pressing onto the glass. Alarm seems appropriately, but not overly, sensitive. We use it on a glass patio door, our only glass entrance unless you think the robbers will use windows. A very affordable way to ensure you are notified of any glass vibration. I didn't let it run until it turns off so I don't know about that.

Very easy to install and once it's mounted it appears to be stuck there forever. I can state whether or not this alarm will do what it states but I am hoping that it will. This alarm has a thin profile and it states it will sound once the glass has been broken or there is excessive vibration. I have the sensitivity settings on Lo and I will know if it works perfectly if it is ever tampered with.

This seems to be an inexpensive alarm for anyone who would want to be notified of a break-in while at home, whether asleep or awake. This would be especially useful for someone in a ground floor apartment or home, as it is loud enough to be heard throughout. The signage facing the outside should also be a deterrent also. At this price, several could be purchased for multiple locations on doors with glass as well as all of the windows. Installation was very simple as you just peel off a layer. The face of the alarm is tacky and ready to mount after you clean the surface that you will apply it to. I tried the alarm before I installed it and it worked with a tap on it while on the High setting. I really had to tap it hard to get it to alarm on Low though. After installation, I tapped the window pretty hard to get the vibration to set it off on High, and was never able to get it to alarm on Low, so I recommend placing it on the High setting. I placed one on a double set of windows, and the vibration from the second adjoining window did not set it off, so I will be purchasing an additional alarm for that one. I will repeat: this is a great, inexpensive alarm for someone who needs the feeling of security. I am thinking of a granddaughter in an apartment. One note here on the packaging. I think this type of packaging, where you need tin snips or scissors to open, is unnecessary. I understand that manufacturers think it makes it more difficult to return, but folks are going to return it anyway if they don’t want or like the product. That leaves your retail store with no options on reselling it. It is still a good product.

I got one of these for the sliding glass patio door on my daughter's apartment and will be getting two more for our home and one for our RV! It's a great product that GE has come up with, and is very easy to install, while being inexpensive. Everyone knows that patio doors (sliding glass or french) and double-hung windows are the most common break-in point for burglars, and this device is designed to protect those vulnerable access points for those who don't want, or can't afford, a full blown security alarm system. As someone who used to install alarm systems, I appreciate the great design of this product. It's small, simple to install- you just pop in the batteries and remove the sticky backing and attach the unit to the door or window, and runs off 4 small (replaceable) LR44 batteries. It has a thin design and the back side of the design cleverly is a security warning sticker that can be seen through the glass from the outside. The thin design is key for double hung windows and sliding glass doors where half the door or window slides past the other half - this device is super thin and can be installed on the fixed window or patio door section without obstructing that. Very smart design for a small device. Also, it comes with a detailed well written instruction booklet which explains the features, how to install it and how to use it. In addition, this alarm device has a hi-low sensitivity switch, so if you live in an apartment where your neighbor has subwoofers blasting in his car, or near an airport, you may need to use the low setting, otherwise the high setting is probably the best. Also there is an on-off switch so you can quickly disable the alarm if you accidentally set it off, and a test button that tests that the batteries (it does not test the alarm device itself). The alarm is fairly loud (I would guess about 90 db), but not super loud or piercing, (important in apartments, or if you have dogs that go beserk when the smoke alarm goes off), but is certainly loud and annoying enough to awaken or alert the homeowner or resident when there's a problem, giving them time to get up, call the police, and address any intrusion or window damage issues. It would also likely deter any would-be robber. This glass vibration alarm device works as a stand-alone device and does not connect to a monitored alarm system, but it's great for those who can't afford them. It's inexpensive, so you can get 3 or 4, if you have many windows or doors to cover. It's perfect for apartments, condos and small offices, (especially for ground floor units), and could even be used by travelers for their hotel or motel room, or for the RV or travel trailer. (Our RV has a sliding glass patio door, and we often worry about the possibility of a break-in through that door. This alarm will give us some extra security and peace of mind when we travel in our RV.)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not very sensitive This window alarm is not very sensitive to vibration, even on the "high" sensitivity setting. And the alarm noise, when it does go off, is not very loud. I'll just have to hope that the warning sign which shows to the outside world will act as $8-10 worth of visual deterrent.
