Customer Questions & Answers

When not using water filter for a few weeks does it have to be taken out of cartridge to dry or is it ok to leave it be?

Asked by: Anonymous
I use this these filters along with an U/V filter to treat the spring water that we use at our cabin. We take the filter out and drain all our water lines when we leave for the season. Unless your worried about freezing weather, I'd don't see any reason to take the filter out. I'd just leave it in.

Hello rkk1 - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. The FXUSC filter is a Class V filter which has a 30-50 micron particulate reduction. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Household Replacement Filters is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good economical choice Due to poor quality of city water my filters must be changed bi-weekly regaurdless of rated capacity, these have been the cheapest blown form filters i have found, they work just as good as the pleated Whirlpool ones that cost 50% more from Lowes

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good filter - negligible pressure drop This is a basic filter for screening out sediment 30 microns and larger. Don't expect it to change the taste, resolve cloudiness, or remove chlorine, that's not what it is for. I use this to keep sand and bits of calcium out of my appliances and shower heads, and it does a great job with little or no pressure drop. The string wound filter in this size is good to 15 microns, and if you need a 5 micron filter for cloudiness or chlorine, go with the carbon filter, but be warned that the smaller the micron rating, the higher the pressure drop you will get.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Need micron rating The on-line product description says the filter lasts up to 6 months. The specifications say 3 months. The package it comes in says 2 months. I installed it only a month ago and plan to compromise on 3 months unless it shows deterioration before then. What neither this product, nor any comparable one I have found, does is to provide the micron level of filtration. In the past, I have bought filters rated to filter everything above 5 microns. I have no idea what this one does. It needs to show a rating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Misleading! What Home Depot doesn't mention is that this is "REV 2" of this filter. The original filter screened down to 5 microns. The "improved" revision 2 only filters down to 30 microns! Home Depot needs to include filtration size/capability in the specifications. Mine are going back for refund!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good for that price. The filter is pretty simple, works well for ordinary households for cleaning up the sediments. You will notice the sediments when you change the filter, the filter becomes brownish. I notice that when I change the filter, only the lower half of the filter is dirty, that means the water does not go up the the upper part of the filter. For me, I reverse the filter every 3 months. We have only 2 people in the house, not much use. I suggest that when you use the filter for drinking water, you still need to run maybe one minute. It is to drain the stagnant water, still has more bacteria, even in the filter. Maybe I am over cautious.
