Customer Questions & Answers

Water Supply Material and Water Filter Placement

Can this filter be hooked up to braided steel tubing with standard fittings? Or, would an adaptor be necessary to convert the standard to a compression fitting? Also, why is it necessary to install the water filter as close to the supply valve as possible? Thank you, MV
Asked by: Anonymous
No this filter is not adaptable to steel tubing. Our filter is not next to the supply valve. The water hook up is under the sink. the flexible tubing runs about two feet through the cabinet, behind the range and lays on the floor, and then the tubing is connected to the refrigerator..

Installation was easy, once I learned the trick. Pop the blue thingy out before you insert the tube, or the tube won't go all the way in. Then replace the blue thingy for a water tight seal.

This is the first time that I used this filter, it is perfect for the GE refrigerator or any brand refrigerator, It is easy to install, the only trick is on both end, before you connect the tubes, the cut has to be smooth, if it is not a smooth cut, it will leak right away, I checked the chlorine after the installation with an indicator, the tap water was yellowish, but the filtered water was clear and taste good. The price is good and the product is superior, thanks to the manufacturer and Home Depot, do not forget to change every 6 months!

The GE Refrigerator Water Filter was easy to install, and is providing clean filtered water to the ice making system in our kitchen Refrigerator. The water connections for both the inlet and outlet (1/4") were the push-in type with no other tools required; flushing of the filter per the included instructions was simple and quickly done, excellent filter.................................

I had always been pleased with the GE GXRTQR replacement water filters in the past. When installed correctly, these filters provide clear and clean tasting ice & water. This is GE-GXRTDR filter and does NOT have the NIP threads, but has push to connect fittings. For out of sight, water-line connections, I do not trust those type fittings.

I was looking for GXRTQR replacement filters from HDX that Home Depot used to carry as replacements for the GE GXRTQR. This filter says it is can be used as a replacement for the older GXRTQR filters but the instructions don't say how to do it or what parts are needed. Now have to figure out a connection assemble for my braided steel water supply lines and go back to buy more parts and take a half day to replace filters and tubing assemblies. Really disappointed in GE. Bad product design and instructions by GE, look for alternatives unless you already have 1/4" water supply tubing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lousy replacement for GXRTQR filters This is a lousy replacement for GXRTQR filters. The GXRTDR has no fittings to quick connect to the water line. GE says GXRTDR replaces it, but there are no instructions how to adapt it.
