There seems to be many extra parts that look like they come with the product, why all the parts? I want to make it simple as possible to replace the broken unit.

this kit seems to be a one size fits all, but don't worry about it. if you can get it hung, plugged in and water in it. it will make lots of ice. keep the parts like the fill valve and the hoses in case you need parts later.
if your refrig has the two screws on the side and the fill from the back, this unit should fit. GE has been using the same mounting style for 35 years at least. I'm like you, I

I'm like you, I bought it hoping it would fit my 20 year old refrig and it did. you may have to use the adapter plug and then kinda fold it up behind the icemaker like I did before you secure it.

If your refrigerator came from the factory with an ice-maker already installed and a replacement is needed, only the ice-maker (not a kit) should be ordered. The ice-maker part # WR30X0327 has been superseded to part # WR30X10093.

Unit has been replaced with a unit the technician says was tested and works fine. Water flow is appropriate and temp is cold enough. I had the old one replaced because of sudden slow ice production, but the replacement seems even slower. Current production rate is 2 cubes in last 3 hrs.

Maybe a restricted water flow or possible use of an additional filter. I have no problem with mine and was worried about the same thing. I was pleasantly surprised at the quickness the ice is manufactured.

Unfortunately, replacing the icemaker will usually not resolve a slow ice situation. If you have a water filter in your refrigerator and it has not been changed lately, then we recommend changing it. Refrigerator water filters should be changed about every six months, depending upon your water quality. Also, you may wish to decrease the freezer's temperature by another position to make it colder.
If this does not help, I recommend scheduling a service appointment with a GE authorized technician who can accurately diagnose and repair your appliance. You can schedule an appointment online at:

I seriously doubt it because of the construction of bottom mount freezers. I bought this ice maker and am very well pleased but I installed it in a 20 year old GE refrigerator with a top mounted freezer.

Hello John,
This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help.
This PVC Ice Maker Kit is designed for GE branded refrigerators and has not been tested in any other brands. We must recommend checking with the manufacturer of your refrigerator for the approved ice maker kit.

PVC Ice Maker Kit is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 108.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Paying for the name... Great product, easy install, but pricey in comparison to other brands and generics. Don't buy this directly from GE or you'll pay twice the HD price. This replaces numerous other models, so you'll have a bag or worthless left-over pieces. Let there be ice!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Automatic Icemaker for Hotpoint refrigerators The Ice maker was easy to install, and the documentation was easy to read. Since the ice maker will fit multiple models care must be taken to find the model number on the back of the refrigerator. On that point the instructions were not clear and a call to the GE service center needed to be placed for clarification. The new ice maker has been working well for several months since installation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but beware of instructions... Good unit, relatively easy to install for a moderately mechanical person like me. Only problem encountered was the template to cut the fill tube for my unit (instructions part M) is wrong (also references the wrong page) and I ended up with it too short to work. GE was useless (Answer Center and Parts) and luckily when I went to a local supplier (not GE) one of their service people had the bag of left over parts from the exact same ice maker installation kit in his truck...the tube I needed had not been used and they gave it to me. None of this is HD's issue. Definitely a GE documentation problem. They did not seem overly concerned or interested in fixing it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, fits great, but instructions didn't match up The kit can be installed in just about every different model GE refrigerator so you get many more pieces than you need and 15 or so different sets of instructions. You are supposed to find a letter on the back of the frig that corresponds to the instructions to use. In my case, "K" on the frig didn't match up to "K" in the instructions. It wasn't too difficult to figure out after reading over a couple different installation types -- you get the idea of how it goes in, which pieces to use, and how they go together.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not too bad Ice maker is installed and working great. My refrigerator lined up with the letter "M" and thankfully I read the reviews before cutting some of the pieces (which would have been cut too short), other than that I would just note that you have to buy the water supply line (that connects from your water supply to the actual fridge (not included but very inexpensive).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect addition to a great fridge This product was easy to install and instructions were easy to follow. Home Depot's price was unbeatable and was delivered straight to my home on the day they said it would arrive. It makes so much ice that we have to use 2 trays to store the ice. Much faster than some of those universal models out there.
Date published: 2013-07-25
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of parts for adaptation I bought this to replace an existing ice maker that worn out. The replacement works great, makes ice quickly and quietly and we are very happy with it. It could probably fit just about any refrigerator out there. It even comes with the solenoid valve. It costs about 1/2 of what the replacements (without the valve) cost anywhere else. The only suggestions I would make would be for the instructions to have a diagram of each installation, since it fits so many refrigerators. The instructions said there would be a letter on the back of the refrigerator to tell me which of the instructions and parts I would need, but there was no letter and I couldn't really tell what parts I was going to need. I finally just used the stuff that looked similar to what I removed. My frig has ice through the door, and the new ice maker did not hang high enough to clear the bin using the existing holes, so I jury rigged some spacers to raise it up.
