Looking for a recommendation on a built into the cabinets convection microwave and ducting advise

This question is from Profile 1.7 cu. ft. Over the Range Convection Microwave in Stainless Steel-DISCONTINUED

Hello, I would like to replace my current air recirculating over the range microwave to make room for a dedicated range hood vented to the outside; but then install a convection microwave into my cabinets; but also have the microwave vented to the outside as well instead of recirculating the exhaust fumes/smoke back into my kitchen. Provided the blower on the microwave is 400 CFMs of less, my County's Building Department has no code requirements or guidelines. Because the over the counter cabinet I would like to use as the location for the new microwave is hung against a brick wall/chimney area, I'll need the ducting to initially be directly over the top of the microwave with the duct initially routed horizontally for two feet to an area where I can then run the duct vent vertically up to the roof. A model that has roughly the same dimensions as the GE Profile will be able to fit in the space I have available. So, do you have a recommended GE Convection Microwave model that will meet my needs and if so, what type of ducting (shape, size# should be installed? Since I have that two foot length of ducting that needs to run horizontally initially #and I do have the leeway to have it run at a slight angle), is there any considerations I need to take in account for ensuring that I can clean-out any grease accumulations?

We purchase this unit 3 to 4 years ago. It was manufactured in Nov 2011. It makes a humming noise constantly as soon as the door is closed even when the microwave or convection is not being used. We plug it in and the microwave or convection oven works fine. Once done it will not stop humming until the door is opened or the unit is unplugged.

Hi Richard-this is Sue from GE Appliances. A humming noise when the microwave is not in operation may be the transformer. It emits a slight humming sound that is usually not noticed. The transformer is used to power the clock. If this is not the case, we encourage you to contact GE Consumer Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance or visit GEAppliances.com. Replacement of GE Over-the-Range Microwave

This question is from Profile 1.7 cu. ft. Over the Range Convection Microwave in Stainless Steel-DISCONTINUED

I have a GE Profile Over-the-Range Microwave/Convection oven (Model JVM290WV 001) that was installed about 18 years ago and has gone bad. Ideally I'd replace it with the same model number, but I can't seem to find that model. So what are some options to replace it. The key is that the width of the new unit must be exactly the same as the width of the old unit (30 inches) to fit my cabinetry. The other 2 dimensions are not so critical.

Profile 1.7 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Convection Microwave in Bisque-DISCONTINUED is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 97.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Convection / Microwave Fastcook is awesome! We replaced our 21 year old microwave with this combination convection/microwave over the stove oven. It has a number of great features but one thing about it is ease of use for reheating. I like the knob for setting times as it jumps in 15 second increments for quick heating of microwave items. The only negative (and this is because of technology) is that we have to buy some new cooking containers for the combo. Our microwave containers can't be used in conventional oven and the metal containers can't be used in microwave. So using the combination requires a container that is basically ceramic. Containers approved for both microwave and conventional oven.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good! In the few short days I've had this unit, I've been pretty impressed. It's really easy to use - very intuitive - and the results have been great for both the convection and microwave features: cookies, salmon, baked potatoes, etc. I know some reviewers don't like the dial as well, but I find that it provides a cleaner look to the unit, and I love how easy it makes it to extend the cooking time to whatever increment you need. I haven't tried the fast bake option yet, so no comment on that. The true test is how well it holds up long-term, but obviously I can't comment on that quite yet. Otherwise, so far, so good!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Satisfied After 15 years of excellent service my GE Profile Microwave Convection Oven stopped working. After considering all options, I decided to buy the same brand and the same line. How can you argue with a great product? I'm not disappointed. It's everything I need and more. All up to date and state of the art. I raised a famly of 4 and then had parents living with me. Now with 7 grandkids, I still need this product. Buy it you won't be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed! Just had this microwave installed by Home Depot the other day...not only is this microwave/convection oven impressive it cooks great! At the salesmans recommendation ,we chose this model! Living in Florida it is too hot to heat up a conventional oven! Well so far we have not used the conventional oven ever again because this microwave does it all! The food is crispy and moist and delicious! The delivery from Home Depot and installation went smoothly and proficiently! The delivery men were professional and very knowledgeable! Very Happy with home Depot and this is our 3rd appliance purchase from them! We would not go anywhere else! Thanks to Jack,Richard,Kimmy and Brandi at the store ! You are terrific!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built, well engineered, no surprises New installation was pretty straight-forward taking only about 1.5hrs (including drilling the cabinet above for the cord and mounting screws. The install instructions were easy to understand and the premade brackets and hardware simplified the install. The oven works great! Used it as a 2nd oven over Thanksgiving to bake a cake, pie, bread, and some frozen snacks. The fast/combo bake (microwave+convection) really works (i suppose it should for a $600 unit) and the factory default settings are just right for us (especially the quaint beeper when the time expires). I've come to like the retro knob for selecting options. Makes sense why GE used this design and it is pretty easy to get used to. Normally i say "run" from "Garbage Electric" products based on the pile of appliances we've sent to the landfill, but in this case i say it is a definite plus in our house and so far has met or exceeded expections for install/operation/results. hope it continues to perform as it does today for many years to come!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the versatility! I've had this microwave for over 2 years and I have to say it is the most versatile piece of equipment I have in my house. Not only can you reheat foods, but you can also bake just about anything. I remember the first day it was installed, I was reading the book of recipes that it came with and I decided to bake some bread. Came out tasty and had a nice crust. The added bonus is that during this past summer, with the heat being outrageous, the thought of putting the oven on for even simple things like a pizza was a no-no, this convection oven did amazing. Kept me and my kitchen cool. I would say that I use both microwave and convection about the same. The longer I own this, the more versatile it becomes. I do like all the bells and whistles it comes with. The programmable nightlight is great, especially when I get home late in the winter. You can't go wrong with this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You had me at convection.... I was really drawn to this microwave, mainly because of the convection feature. Other features weighing in the decision were the cooktop light and the vent fan. After much research online and in stores, I decided the extra cost for the convection would be worth it. I LOVE THIS OVEN! I can fit two full-size cookie sheets in at one time. And the cookies have come out perfectly browned. As for the microwave functions, I love having the micro-express button. I am so pleased with my choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the best convection microwave ever! I love, love, LOVE this convection microwave!!! Two racks allow baking evenly with two cookie sheets or two pies, two cake layers, etc. I have roasted chicken, pork roast, beef roast and they all come out perfectly. This convection microwave is the best you could buy. I've had this product for five years and we have never needed service for any reason.
