Looking for a recommendation on a built into the cabinets convection microwave and ducting advise

This question is from Profile 1.7 cu. ft. Over the Range Convection Microwave in Stainless Steel-DISCONTINUED

Hello, I would like to replace my current air recirculating over the range microwave to make room for a dedicated range hood vented to the outside; but then install a convection microwave into my cabinets; but also have the microwave vented to the outside as well instead of recirculating the exhaust fumes/smoke back into my kitchen. Provided the blower on the microwave is 400 CFMs of less, my County's Building Department has no code requirements or guidelines. Because the over the counter cabinet I would like to use as the location for the new microwave is hung against a brick wall/chimney area, I'll need the ducting to initially be directly over the top of the microwave with the duct initially routed horizontally for two feet to an area where I can then run the duct vent vertically up to the roof. A model that has roughly the same dimensions as the GE Profile will be able to fit in the space I have available. So, do you have a recommended GE Convection Microwave model that will meet my needs and if so, what type of ducting (shape, size# should be installed? Since I have that two foot length of ducting that needs to run horizontally initially #and I do have the leeway to have it run at a slight angle), is there any considerations I need to take in account for ensuring that I can clean-out any grease accumulations?

We purchase this unit 3 to 4 years ago. It was manufactured in Nov 2011. It makes a humming noise constantly as soon as the door is closed even when the microwave or convection is not being used. We plug it in and the microwave or convection oven works fine. Once done it will not stop humming until the door is opened or the unit is unplugged.

Answer:
Hi Richard-this is Sue from GE Appliances. A humming noise when the microwave is not in operation may be the transformer. It emits a slight humming sound that is usually not noticed. The transformer is used to power the clock. If this is not the case, we encourage you to contact GE Consumer Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance or visit GEAppliances.com. Replacement of GE Over-the-Range Microwave

I have a GE Profile Over-the-Range Microwave/Convection oven (Model JVM290WV 001) that was installed about 18 years ago and has gone bad. Ideally I'd replace it with the same model number, but I can't seem to find that model. So what are some options to replace it. The key is that the width of the new unit must be exactly the same as the width of the old unit (30 inches) to fit my cabinetry. The other 2 dimensions are not so critical.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 113 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Failed in less than 18 months After this microwave failed in under 18 months, I looked at reviews and see most are having failures. The vent fan and light work great, but the microwave only functions as a storage location! This is my second (relatively expensive) GE microwave to fail after brief usage. Although they may all be made by the same Chinese factory (?) it is hard to justify purchasing another GE product. May 15, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lots of Features, still learning to use them all Delivery/installation notification only came the day prior - very little time to juggle the next day's schedule. Installation (replacing existing unit) was fast but there were some cleanup isues from minor drilling. There was a difficulty choosing from the options available - it's best to see a unit installed rather than relying on catalog/on-line description only. Annoying feature is that control panel (not the LED panel)is not lighted and I can't see the selections without turning on a kitchen light. Looking forward to using convection oven with other features that were not available in the unit that was replaced. April 10, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great looking and it works! This is a great MW oven. If you have a vent it will connect to it or it can be installed to vent in your kitchen. We were a little apprehensive about using the dial instead of number pad, but we quickly learned and appreciate its use now. Without a number pad it makes room for all the other features of this multifaceted oven. It will work like a regular oven! Using the shelves you can keep warm several dishes while you finish prepping the rest of your meal. Or you can bake just like your regular oven. Convection too! Whatever you want to do in the kitchen, you can use this oven to do it. It is the perfect companion to your stove below. November 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Need to take the time to read the instruction manual I am happy with the versatility of this convection microwave and having a small oven in one appliance. It will save energy by not having to light up the big oven for just one item. Due to the many features, the instruction manual had to be kept handy and read several times. ( I would not get this appliance for my Mother who is not technically minded.) Installers arrived late and struggled to install due to exhaustion, inexperience and training. I was at the end of their 12 hr. day and they had two more deliveries after me! October 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product well worth the extracost. Our over the range microwave went out and we needed to replace it. We debated the extra cost of getting a microwave convection oven combo and decided to go for it. For an extra $200 you really get a second oven that makes preparing oven recipes easier and with more flexibility than with a conventional oven. We've made cupcakes, cookies, spanikopita, ribs and other items and they are all as good as they come out the oven. The unit is intuitively easy to use and comes with good instructions. Well worth the extra money so far! October 16, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great product I am very pleased with the microwave, but especially with the convection. My results have been very successful and baked goods turn out perfectly. I am still experimenting with roasting October 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great features This microwave is outstanding. Great features and I love the convection oven feature. Great in the summer time when I don't want to turn my oven on. I like the quick time buttons. One press to reheat plates and one press to heat something for 30 seconds or press twice for a minute. I like the roast feature also. Overall this is a great microwave. I've had a few and this is the most usable one I've had. August 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Satisfied After 15 years of excellent service my GE Profile Microwave Convection Oven stopped working. After considering all options, I decided to buy the same brand and the same line. How can you argue with a great product? I'm not disappointed. It's everything I need and more. All up to date and state of the art. I raised a famly of 4 and then had parents living with me. Now with 7 grandkids, I still need this product. Buy it you won't be disappointed. April 30, 2011
