Looking for a recommendation on a built into the cabinets convection microwave and ducting advise

Hello, I would like to replace my current air recirculating over the range microwave to make room for a dedicated range hood vented to the outside; but then install a convection microwave into my cabinets; but also have the microwave vented to the outside as well instead of recirculating the exhaust fumes/smoke back into my kitchen. Provided the blower on the microwave is 400 CFMs of less, my County's Building Department has no code requirements or guidelines. Because the over the counter cabinet I would like to use as the location for the new microwave is hung against a brick wall/chimney area, I'll need the ducting to initially be directly over the top of the microwave with the duct initially routed horizontally for two feet to an area where I can then run the duct vent vertically up to the roof. A model that has roughly the same dimensions as the GE Profile will be able to fit in the space I have available. So, do you have a recommended GE Convection Microwave model that will meet my needs and if so, what type of ducting (shape, size# should be installed? Since I have that two foot length of ducting that needs to run horizontally initially #and I do have the leeway to have it run at a slight angle), is there any considerations I need to take in account for ensuring that I can clean-out any grease accumulations?

We purchase this unit 3 to 4 years ago. It was manufactured in Nov 2011. It makes a humming noise constantly as soon as the door is closed even when the microwave or convection is not being used. We plug it in and the microwave or convection oven works fine. Once done it will not stop humming until the door is opened or the unit is unplugged.

Answer:
Hi Richard-this is Sue from GE Appliances. A humming noise when the microwave is not in operation may be the transformer. It emits a slight humming sound that is usually not noticed. The transformer is used to power the clock. If this is not the case, we encourage you to contact GE Consumer Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance or visit GEAppliances.com. Replacement of GE Over-the-Range Microwave

I have a GE Profile Over-the-Range Microwave/Convection oven (Model JVM290WV 001) that was installed about 18 years ago and has gone bad. Ideally I'd replace it with the same model number, but I can't seem to find that model. So what are some options to replace it. The key is that the width of the new unit must be exactly the same as the width of the old unit (30 inches) to fit my cabinetry. The other 2 dimensions are not so critical.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great looking and it works! This is a great MW oven. If you have a vent it will connect to it or it can be installed to vent in your kitchen. We were a little apprehensive about using the dial instead of number pad, but we quickly learned and appreciate its use now. Without a number pad it makes room for all the other features of this multifaceted oven. It will work like a regular oven! Using the shelves you can keep warm several dishes while you finish prepping the rest of your meal. Or you can bake just like your regular oven. Convection too! Whatever you want to do in the kitchen, you can use this oven to do it. It is the perfect companion to your stove below. November 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great product I am very pleased with the microwave, but especially with the convection. My results have been very successful and baked goods turn out perfectly. I am still experimenting with roasting October 15, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Great microwave. For three whole years. I was perfectly happy with this microwave until it started buzzing loudly when not in use and emitting a burning plastic smell. Since it wasn't the magnetron, it was out of warranty and would cost more to fix than replace. I expected more than three years of use from a microwave. GE appliances came installed in the house I purchased new just three years ago and I have been having problems with all of them. Fridge leaks water, garbage disposal died, dishwasher barely cleans anything. I will never buy GE products. July 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Convection / Microwave Fastcook is awesome! We replaced our 21 year old microwave with this combination convection/microwave over the stove oven. It has a number of great features but one thing about it is ease of use for reheating. I like the knob for setting times as it jumps in 15 second increments for quick heating of microwave items. The only negative (and this is because of technology) is that we have to buy some new cooking containers for the combo. Our microwave containers can't be used in conventional oven and the metal containers can't be used in microwave. So using the combination requires a container that is basically ceramic. Containers approved for both microwave and conventional oven. June 19, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far, so good! In the few short days I've had this unit, I've been pretty impressed. It's really easy to use - very intuitive - and the results have been great for both the convection and microwave features: cookies, salmon, baked potatoes, etc. I know some reviewers don't like the dial as well, but I find that it provides a cleaner look to the unit, and I love how easy it makes it to extend the cooking time to whatever increment you need. I haven't tried the fast bake option yet, so no comment on that. The true test is how well it holds up long-term, but obviously I can't comment on that quite yet. Otherwise, so far, so good! Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Confused "We bought this microwave a year and a half ago. We have been very happy with how it works; however, it is the ONLY microwave I've ever seen that does not have a light inside it. It makes it very difficult to keep an eye on things while they cook etc. I never even considered asking about that before we bought it, as I assumed all microwaves had lights. My mistake. Had I known, I would not have purchased this. May 22, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by First one only lasted four years, otherwise good product We bought our first one four years ago, to match a Profile dual-fuel range, which we love. It worked fine until recently, when the microwave continued to run whenever the door was closed. We had to leave the door ajar to stop it from running. Called GE service, who told us it needed a new "board," and the total repair cost would be about 90% of the cost of a new one. So we just replaced it with a new one which was on sale for not a lot more than that. Other than this disappointing failure and how much it would have cost to fix it, we like the unit, enough to buy another one. April 24, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by My pvm1790sr1ss makes a loud buzzing sound My pvm1790sr1ss makes a loud buzzing sound when door is closed. Buzzing stops when door is opened. Not clock transformer noise, obviously, because of the door situation. Buzzing volume is maybe half as loud as noise when running. Microwave works fine otherwise, but this buzzing is annoying and disconcerting. Began all of a sudden with no warning. January 9, 2015
