This is a very efficient units so I would be surprised if it took longer than an hour.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
This is Joyce from GE. I will be happy to help. When a refrigerator or freezer is first installed, allow 24 hours for it to stabilize to normal operating temperatures. Some cooling should be obvious in the freezer within approximately one hour.
Thanks so much for checking with us. Have a good day!

It doesn't make as much as one where the ice maker is in the freezer. Because this ice maker is on the door of the refrigerator, it has a smaller compartment to hold ice in.

Answer:
Not enough and takes a long time to make. Really depends on how much you use, but when the bin in the door is full you are suppose to take it out each time and empty it into an other bin in the freezer. This keeps the space the ice maker takes up in the door to minimum, but as a result doesn't make enough ice.

~ A clicking/tic toc noise can be heard when the defrost timer switches on and off.
~ A click can be heard when the temperature control unit turns the unit on and off.
~ A boiling, gurgling, or knocking sound can be heard when the unit is running. This is caused by the circulation of refrigerant.
~ Gurgling sound in the door. This sound can be heard just after the door is closed because of the water in drain tube trap area. It can last several seconds.
If you feel it is extremely loud or unusual, then I would recommend to have this evaluated by a service technician under warranty.

Hello,
This is Nancy from GE and I am happy to help you with regard to this beautiful 28.6 cubic foot Energy Star French-door Refrigerator.
This unit is very quiet. There is a list in the back of the Owner's Manual which describes the normal operating sounds that a refrigerator may make. These normal operating sounds include a humming or whooshing from the high efficiency compressor, a whirring noise may occur from the fans spinning, and clicks, pops, cracks or snaps when the refrigerator is first plugged in caused by the expansion and contraction of the cooling coils. Also, you may hear water sounds from the flow of the refrigerant through the cooling coils.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 975 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Refrigerator We LOVE this refrigerator. Construction is real "Made in USA" quality! Don't plan on placing magnets on this one---the stainless is extremely high in nickel content. So high that no magnet will stick---not common in this type of product! My only suggestion, was that more instructions be included showing how to download pictures to the refrigerator. There is just one sentence about this feature in the owner's manual. I'm a computer tech, so it was easy for me, but my 30 year-old Son, nor my wife could figure it out, and nothing was loaded until I came home from work. Also replacement filters are very expensive---about $60 Over all, very nice. February 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it! Roomy and nicely built! We just bought this and had it put in today! It is beautiful, roomy and built very well! It has a ton of room! We love the way the drawers are set up in the freezer ... more organized than other freezers and they stay in the back unless you want to slide them forward ... so you can see what's underneath easier. You can control the bottom drawer of the refrigerator to whatever temp you need it to be for fruits, meats, veggies, etc. There's a great slide shelf for when you have wine bottles, liter bottles that you need to fit. We also really like the ice maker and the water filter that is hidden so you have more space in the fridge. We are very pleased with our purchase! July 20, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overall - love this refrigerator Overall - love this refrigerator. I do wish I would have considered the cabinet depth one, as this refrigerator is quite large. At the time, I couldn't see paying MORE for the smaller cabinet depth one. Energy efficiency, I'm not sure, it's too new. Overall though I love the refrigerator and it's features. Freezer is larger than I expected. Lighting inside refrig and freezer is great. Organization is good except I would have liked to see more specialized areas (for eggs, etc). Also of note is; I didn't expect the sides to be nonstainless steel. My fault for not reviewing this product better. My refrigerator sits out in the open and I don't care for the dark grey sides. Otherwise, I like it. October 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Phenomenal Purchase We couldnt be happier with this purchase. For many years now, as a family of 4, we were struggling with a small 16 cu. ft. fridge. We finally decided to upgrade and couldn't be happier. We can actually see our food. We have room now to buy enough food for what we need. Food actually seems to last longer in this refrigerator than our old one. we would never want another refrigerator! June 18, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Had Frig since Dec 2013 It took me a couple weeks to adjust to the french doors after using a side by side for so long. The height of the frig shelves was an issue on a few items but I keep the right sliding shelf pushed back 100% of the time and that solved the issue (see picture). I bought this because I HAD to have a gallon of milk in reach for my 3 young kids - the door gallon shelf is perfect! I wanted to maximize my veggie storage - I liked the double veggie drawers because the new style of having 3 wasted space in fitting in the drawers. My veggies are lasting much longer now too! The 5 LED lights are great - they really light up the frig so nothing goes missing. There is an alarm that goes off when the doors are left open which has come in handy with young kids. Another fun feature is you can upload pictures to the front screen - we got the frig at Christmas time so we upload our Christmas elf doing crazy things around the house and the kids freaked out! Though it did make it difficult to get other pics on the frig without blowing our cover of knowing how to do it so it's currently blank! :) It is has been quiet and we have had no issues. An added bonus that we thought was silly but is now one of our favorite features is the water dispenser's auto sensor. The kids are drinking a lot of more water playing with the feature and we have to admit it's nice to put a glass under the dispenser push a button then walk away and do something quick while it's filling!! Only cons we've experienced is the ice maker is small but we don't use a lot of ice. And when the ice does come out watch out. The water isn't as cold as our old frig. July 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Product space and organization of this Fridge is incredible Beautiful to look at, easy to load. So much space and bright lighting makes it easy to be organized. Will definitely cut down on waste from buried items. September 22, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by LOUD This was an expensive purchase, a beautiful fridge. Paid extra of course for counter depth (which should be standard). This fridge is the Loudest most annoying fridge! We replaced our 30 year old ge quiet running bottom freezer fridge thinking this would be so much more efficient. I hate to open it because I don't want the fans to turn on! It always sounds like it's going to blow. I regret spending so much on a fridge, your paying for look!! But the noise ruins everything . September 3, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice fridge with one major flaw We got a good deal on this fridge (read $1700). Looks nice, has nice features, but if you have an open floor plan or couch near it the sound will drive you mad. It's near constantly running (energy star) and the fans are annoyingly loud. We watch a lot of tv in our hearth room off the kitchen and have to turn it up to drown out the fridge. Unacceptable at $1700, much less $3100. We took it back 4 days later and went with the LG. Review to come on that one. If we didnt sit near the fridge we'd keep it, its nice and has nice features if not for the noise. It is louder than our new dishwasher by about 10 decibels, except its always running. September 20, 2014
