To unlock the cooktop, touch and hold the "Control Lock" pad for five seconds. A two-beep signal will sound, and the control lock light will go out, indicating that the cooktop is unlocked.

Compatible cookware for induction cooktops should be made of magnetic stainless steel, cast iron (works well but may scratch the glass unless it is porcelain coated), enameled steel or a combination of these materials.
For best results, use a pan that matches the element size. Pans should have a flat bottom and be at least 5 inches across the bottom . Cookware larger than the element ring may be used; however, heat will only occur above the element.
The key to testing workable cookware is that a magnet must be able to stick and hold to bottom of pan.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 282 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Could not be happier The cooktop was very easy to install and works like a dream. We installed it ourselves and were ready to cook in a couple of hours. It heats very quickly and evenly. The controls are easy to learn. It is a really good product. December 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Deal! Easy to install and it works great! We love the features. July 7, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Best type of cooktop and best cooktop in it's price range This cook top requires A 40 AMP breaker. It is very easy to install. It is very easy to clean with the supplied glass cook top cleaner or similar cleaner. The controls are very easy to operate and it has a lockout feature to prevent accidentally turning it on. You need pans built for induction cooking. Pans not built for induction cook tops will not work. The temperature control is very precise and easy to use but coming from gas I had to get used to it. The only negative is that the pan circles can be hard to see and it takes precise placement of pans to activate the burner. You cant set cast iron directly on the glass as it will scratch it. However you can put a silicon baking mat underneath and it works just fine. It boils water faster than any cook top I have seen. I mean fast, especially if you start with hot tap water. THERE IS ONE IN THE SAVANNAH STORE ON ABERCORN THAT IS IN THE CLEARENCE AREA FOR $999. GET IT WHILE ITS HOT! March 31, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Cooktop, But Know About Induction This cooktop is actually wonderful and I'm so glad I spent the extra money for an induction cooktop. Heats and cools quickly - like a gas burner. But, if you are like me and did not really know what induction meant, do your homework. The cookware used on an induction cooktop must be induction compatible. My Calphalon and Revere Ware would not work on it. If you purchase new cookware, read the label. Make sure it will work with induction cooktops. Not all stainless steel cookware is compatible. Just a little heads up for those that buy because it sounds great(like me). August 29, 2010
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Some good, some not so good There are things I like about this cooktop but what is intolerable is the buzzing sound that it makes. The buzzing is worse when you use 2 burners at once and it also buzzes when I turn the lights on above the stove. As I turn the dimmer down the buzzing gets louder . Bottom line is I can use one burner, with the kitchen lights off, then the buzzing is quiet. Would I buy another one? They would have to make some significant improvements. December 13, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Met my expectations and love the induction feature I purchased this for looks...completely seamless and is a work of art! and function. No knobs or buttons or annoying white circles or starbursts. I am still learning to use it as it is very different from regular electric cooktops. It mimics gas cooking. When it is off, so is the heat. The controls are very finite and responsive just as it would be with gas. I did have to run a new electric line as my old top was 30 amps and this is 40amps, an additional expense. The customer service was great when speaking with them with regard to delivery as were the delivery people. February 28, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love my new GE Cooktop I love the induction it works beautifully. I can control my cooking so much better. The only thing I hate is that every little smudge shows up on the black top. December 9, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't count on the rebate I purchased 4 eligible appliances on November 30, 2013 and the rebate form states that I should get $500 but I got only $300. I resubmitted the rebate form after contacting GE but I did not get it after several months. July 28, 2014
