We have an old coiled cooktop with under draft. When we switch on the fan it reduces the heat. Is it the same with this cooktop also?

Answer:
The fan portion is powered with electricity and the burners are gas powered with an electric starter. There is no difference if the fan is on or off.

Using the built-in vent system while cooking helps keep the kitchen comfortable and less humid, reducing cooking odors and soiling moisture that normally creates a frequent need for cleaning.
The appearance of the burner flames may be affected when the vent fan is operating. At the high fan speed setting, it is normal for the nearby burner flames to be drawn toward the vent grille. If cooking performance is affected, we recommend using a lower fan speed setting.

Hello,
This is Donna with GE and I will be happy to help you with your question on the GE Profile 30 in. Gas on Glass Cooktop in Black model # PGP989DNBB.
This is a beautiful cooktop. The countertop must have a deep flat surface to accommodate the cooktop and the vent. 25” min. flat surface area required. Countertops with a rolled front edge and backsplash may not provide the flat surface area required. Be sure that opening is cut squarely, with sides parallel to each other and rear exactly perpendicular to sides. A 1/2″ wide flat area is required around the edge of opening for support of the unit. The cooktop unit must be level and sit squarely into countertop opening.
Following are the cabinet cut-out dimensions.
Width: 28 7/8"
Depth: 20 5/8"
I hope this helps. Thank you for considering GE! Read Less

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 48 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overall I do like cooktop but I must note that it is a little difficult to keep clean. The glass cooktop surface really shows every tiny bit of food, spill, drip etc. and you cant just clean the spot you end up having to take off both grills, knobs etc & fully clean whole entire cooktop-especially since it doesnt have the recessed individual burners. Also since I did not see this model in person before I bought it I was a little suprised at how high profile the burner grills are (they are about 2 full inches high off the countertop) so at first I wasn't sure that I liked it but now the look has grown on me & it looks nice, modern & complementary to my kitchen. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by satisfied purchace Have been using cooktop regularly and very happy with the performance of the stove. Easy clean up. August 11, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 11 years old and works great We've had this exact model for 11 years.  We put all the removable accessories (knobs, grates, fan filter, etc) in the dishwasher (air dry) at least once a week.  This cook top has been well worth the money.  A possible drawback is when you want to use all four burners it gets very crowded and uneven heating when you use 4 large pots (8 qt pots) at the same time, but what can you expect?  This is a 30" cook top!  I also don't like the down draft, but this is what you get when you don't want an overhead vent so the down draft is what it is and would be with any down draft vent.  Overall, this product does what it's supposed to and has done it well.  It is frequently used for 11 years and continues.  Good job GE. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Friends are jealous. Best cooktop ever Friends have been at our house and pointed out the cooktop's great features to their spouses July 14, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Downdraft Cook top This product is just OK. I didn't have much of a choice when I purchased it 2 months ago as it is only one of the two 30" down draft cook tops available on the market. On the plus side the burners are better than the old cook top I replaced with this and the raised burner grates keep the knobs from being burned by the hot pots and pans, but my biggest complaint is the glass surface. It is really a nuisance to keep clean. No matter what type of cleaner I use it always looks either streaky or like it has a greasy film. I have tried everything. From the cleaner they recommend to other glass cook top cleaners to window cleaner NOTHING works. And there are some spots that no matter how I try to clean and polish they will not come off! For this reason I would never purchase another cook top with a glass surface. I wish they would have designed this with a stainless steel top instead. July 28, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Below Par this stove top is less than 4 months old, and not heavily used. The paint is already coming off in spots. The one burner dial got stuck and I had to use pliers to to turn it off. The front burner is erratic and will either cook on high or low non-dependent on what the dial is set to for that burner. July 15, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Burner Rack Problems Burners work well, and the stove surface is easily wiped clean. Note that the burner rack(s), the grey enameled reacks above the burners are exceptionally difficult to clean and keep clean. Have tried numerous cleansers and abbrasive pads with no luck. Any use results in black scoring and at least 10 to 15 minutes of heavy scrubbing to clean. March 25, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible for cleaning We have the black glass cooktop. It is absolutely awful to clean. I cannot imagine this was tested by a woman before it was put on the market or she would have pointed out this flaw. On the days I have time, it may take me 15 to 20 minutes to clean the darn cooktop. The streaking is terrible. The knobs have gaskets around them that always get pushed down into the hole where the knob fits and I have to get tweezers to get them back out and into place. As a full time employed mother and wife, I definitely do not have time to do that much cleaning. Had I known we would not have purchased this model. It heats and cooks fine. December 10, 2012
