We are looking to replace a 12 year old GE Profile Gas downdraft Cooktop (model #JGP989TC4WW) wit...

We are looking to replace a 12 year old GE Profile Gas downdraft Cooktop (model #JGP989TC4WW) with this cooktop. Their dimensions are slightly different. The biggest difference is in the height. The old one is 6" high while this new one is listed at 2 3/16' height. Will this difference cause problems in the installation?
Asked by: Kahn
Hi Kahn- This is Sue at GE Appliances. We certainly appreciate your loyalty! The cooktop height should not cause issues with the product installation. We encourage you to view the Installation Instructions online when planning for the installation: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/38/38495f11-5eec-4f0b-9b5e-7fd32eee5acf.pdf - Thanks for checking with us!

Is the middle grill for cooking on such as a steak ?

Asked by: mike
Hi mike- This is Sue at GE Appliances. We are excited to hear of your interest! The middle piece is a downdraft vent and not a grill for foods. The powerful downdraft exhaust system effectively pulls smoke and steam out of the kitchen. Thanks for checking with us!

Does GE make a 36" downdraft profile unit?

Asked by: froghead
Hi-this is Sue from GE. Thanks for your interest! Model JGP656BBBB is no longer being manufactured. We suggest to view models PGP976DETWW and JGP970TEKWW and our 36" telescoping downdraft system PVB98DTBB. http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Profile-36-in-Gas-Cooktop-in-White-with-5-Burners-including-Power-Boil-Burner-PGP976DETWW/202985521?keyword=PGP976DETWW http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Profile-36-in-Gas-on-Glass-Gas-Cooktop-in-White-with-5-Burners-including-Power-Boil-Burner-JGP970TEKWW/100386320?keyword=JGP970TEKWW http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Profile-36-in-Telescopic-Downdraft-System-in-Black-PVB98DTBB/203197595?keyword=PVB98DTBB Thanks for checking with us!

Installation

Will home depot install this cooktop? I'm replacing a GE Model JGP389WEV3WW cooktop. Will this fit once the old is removed? Will home depot remove the old cooktop? I'm not handy. Any advice is appreciated. Also, what is a power boil burner?
Asked by: Sasha
Home Depot does not install this cooktop. I converted from an electric cooktop to a gas cooktop. My local gas company ran the line and connected it. My electrician placed the cooktop in the space and installed the electric outlet. The downdraft was different from the original range but I managed to figure it out myself without involving a heat/air conditioning person.

Profile 30 in. Gas-on-Glass Gas Cooktop in Stainless Steel with 4 Burners including 11,000 BTU All-Purpose Burner is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 55.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall I do like cooktop but I must note that it is a little difficult to keep clean. The glass cooktop surface really shows every tiny bit of food, spill, drip etc. and you cant just clean the spot you end up having to take off both grills, knobs etc & fully clean whole entire cooktop-especially since it doesnt have the recessed individual burners. Also since I did not see this model in person before I bought it I was a little suprised at how high profile the burner grills are (they are about 2 full inches high off the countertop) so at first I wasn't sure that I liked it but now the look has grown on me & it looks nice, modern & complementary to my kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality I bought this online without actually seeing it in person which is not a good idea, however when it arrived and I opened the box I was very impressed with the construction of the unit. The grates are of very good quality and the downdraft is very powerful even at the lowest speed. It was very easy to install by the instructions. The controls work great and it's very easy to clean. Thumbs up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great downvent gas cooktop The stainless steel trim provides an extra bit of protection along the glass edge, it also make the cooktop look nice. The vent is really strong, even on low, the gas flames from the burners are pulled toward the vent! The metal lip underneath the glass that makes up the gas range is not very wide, so you have to have nearly an exact cutout in your countertop or else you risk supporting the weight of your cooktop with the glass surface, which could cause it to crack. Installation was fairly straightforward, I did it myself but I was just replacing an old gas cooktop with downvent of roughly the same size. I only needed to run out to Home Depot once to get a 6" round to 3.25"x10" vent adapter to connect the fan to my existing vent. I already had a pipe wrench, gas pipe sealer and the all the other tools required for the install. I had to make more room inside my cabinet for the vent stack and fan (it was larger than my previous cooktop) which involved me using my circular saw. The entire installation process probably took me about 4 hours, but I took my time carefully reading over the instructions and making sure things dry fit in place properly before I secured them. In the end, I have a great looking cooktop that is super easy to clean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my glass cooktop! I've wanted a gas cooktop for years, and now I have one. Coming from an electric stove which was slow to heat up and cool down, I find it so nice to be able to control the temperature quickly with my gas cooktop. Additionally, it has a lovely contemporary style and it's very easy to clean up spills.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor quality. Difficult to maintain. old before it's time. We've had ours for less than two years and are looking to replace it. Out of the box, it looked great, then I used it. The burners are inconsistent and cook unevenly. The downdraft vent takes away from power of the burners and it takes considerably longer to cook even if the vent is on low. Using the vent while cooking is a waste of time and energy so we don't use it while cooking so why have the vent? The surface is very difficult to clean. Every drop leaves a stain and most require a razor to remove them, including pasta water. The grills are just a horrible quality. The paint surface on the grills has been bubbling and chipping off after just 13 months of ownership. Our fairly new cooktop have taken on the appearance of a a very old unit in short time even after daily gentle cleaning. Bottom line, we should have purchased the stainless steel model in the first place because we will be replacing this with a stainless steel when we find one for a reasonable price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love cooking with gas Replaced an electric Jenn-Air cook top with this, and loved the results. However, had I done further research in finding out what a nightmare it is keeping it clean, I may have had second thoughts. Very difficult to clean after use !!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hard to clean Purchased this for our kitchen redo. HATE it!!!! So hard to clean! Takes longer to clean than to cook dinner. I actually avoid using it at all costs, and get angry when my kids do :( Have had the cooktop in place for less than 6 months, glass is scratched (from the pad and cleaner that came with the it!). The knobs are cheap plastic (and scratched from cleaning and my grates have the paint removed from them already. My installer also had a very hard time installing as the size of the vent is not standard. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Difficult to Keep Clean and Auto Ignition is Awful I do not like that when one knob is turned to auto ignition, all 4 auto ignitators are going off. It is unnerving and a waste of energy. This cooktop was touted as easy to clean, but it shows every drop of water and has to be carefully cleaned, dried and shined after every use. It is not easy to clean in any way. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
