The stainless steel trim provides an extra bit of protection along the glass edge, it also make the cooktop look nice. The vent is really strong, even on low, the gas flames from the burners are pulled toward the vent!
The metal lip underneath the glass that makes up the gas range is not very wide, so you have to have nearly an exact cutout in your countertop or else you risk supporting the weight of your cooktop with the glass surface, which could cause it to crack. Installation was fairly straightforward, I did it myself but I was just replacing an old gas cooktop with downvent of roughly the same size.
I only needed to run out to Home Depot once to get a 6" round to 3.25"x10" vent adapter to connect the fan to my existing vent. I already had a pipe wrench, gas pipe sealer and the all the other tools required for the install. I had to make more room inside my cabinet for the vent stack and fan (it was larger than my previous cooktop) which involved me using my circular saw. The entire installation process probably took me about 4 hours, but I took my time carefully reading over the instructions and making sure things dry fit in place properly before I secured them.
In the end, I have a great looking cooktop that is super easy to clean.

I'm very fussy about keeping my appliances spotless. This cooktop has 15 removable pieces that I remove to clean all the time. Also, the two grates are removable. I don't see how anybody could think this is easy to clean. And try to keep the glass top looking good. No cleaner gets all the spots off. I finally used Barkeeper liquid. I found that cleans the best. The grates are so high up in the air, you have to have the flame on high to get anything to cook. Also, when the fan in on, the flames are pulled toward it. As far as I'm concerned, it's a piece of junk. We are having a new cooktop installed today. Both my husband and I hate this cooktop.

I bought this online without actually seeing it in person which is not a good idea, however when it arrived and I opened the box I was very impressed with the construction of the unit. The grates are of very good quality and the downdraft is very powerful even at the lowest speed. It was very easy to install by the instructions. The controls work great and it's very easy to clean. Thumbs up.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Margo Love my glass cooktop!
I've wanted a gas cooktop for years, and now I have one. Coming from an electric stove which was slow to heat up and cool down, I find it so nice to be able to control the temperature quickly with my gas cooktop. Additionally, it has a lovely contemporary style and it's very easy to clean up spills.

The cooktop was installed by professionals...the only problem was the downdraft installation.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by tm0809 Decent replacement for GE Profile Electric Cooktop
This cooktop fit well as a replacement to an existing GE Profile electric cooktop. We had a service provider run the gas line and complete the installation. The front of the unit does have a slight curve, but it does not show any space where the previous electric cooktop sat.
The concerns mentioned elsewhere about the flames being pulled into the downdraft are legitimate, but we haven't seen a huge problem with this so far.
The one issue we do have is that the rack above the flames don't appear to be level. Pots and pans are not sturdy on the rack - it is like the prongs themselves are not flush with each other. Not sure if this is has a design purpose, but it doesn't feel like the pots and pans are 100% secure above the flames. They wobble on the rack.
Otherwise the product seems fine so far.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Walter Watch the size of cut opening
It is a quality cooktop but I haven't used it yet. The problem is the indicated opening size of 22 inches. Most of these units call for 21 or 21 and 3/8 inches. Even with the lip and the gasket, 22 inches is barely covered and anything more than that would leave a gap. On the box and in some places 22 is cited while other specs call for just over 21. Granite is tough to cut and this unit rests in some. Also, the fit isn't what it should be at 22 inches.

I LOATHE this cooktop. It is so gross. Crud gets between the counter and edge, into the vent, under the controls and you cannot clean it! This is by far the worst cooktop. The entire thing is not recessed so everything would just spill out onto the counter if you were to boil anything over. I will be ordering a brand new stainless cooktop with recessed burners and covering up that useless vent. If I could give it no stars I would.
