Answer:
The fan does not blow during standard cooking only in the convection mode. For non-convection (standard) cooking, it does blow during preheat, but shuts off and stops blowing when the set temperature is reached. If the Oven is set to convection mode the fan continues to blow after the set temperature is reached.

We just bought a new whirlpool oven and are returning it because during steam clean cycle the steam vents out the top and then condenses and drips between the glass, as well as comes out the bottom of the oven onto the wood floors! not good

Answer:
Hi boysmom- This is Sue at GE Appliances. We are excited to hear of your interest! The vent is below the door to keep electronics cooler, improve appearance, and provide a better door seal at the top. You will not experience steam/condensation from the vent onto the floors. This would not be considered normal. Thanks for checking with us!

30 in. Single Electric Wall Oven Self-Cleaning with Steam Plus Convection in Stainless Steel is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 251.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor shelf design The unit works well as an oven and the controls are easy to use, but they opted for a cheaper design for the shelves. Instead of having the guide rails for the shelf molded into the sides they opted for screw in rails that attach to the sides. these are flimsier and have to be lubricated whenever the oven is cleaned. So this is not at all easy to use and even when lubricated they don't move as easily as the other system. There is still a shelf on an easy slide shelf that is on ball bearings and this shelf works great, but the other 2 shelves are useless if you need to move them in and out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good! Recently bought this model after having a (very unreliable!) competitive brand for 14 years. this model is solid with no crazy amount of hot air blowing out of the convection like others have reported. There is some yes, but it's a convection oven after all! I love the lightweight oven door that can be kept open a crack if needed. It took some time to adjust to the timer which displays minutes only with no seconds countdown like my previous oven. Multi level Convection is okay so far, but I'll need to test further. Baked three pans of cookies last night and the top rack was definitely more brown and crisp than the others.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too Much Hot Air Venting Out Not happy at all about the amount of hot air venting out of this oven after you use it. The fan that blows the hot air is noticeably loud and vents for a long time too. Really heats up my kitchen. I don't want to turn oven on. We have always complained about by in laws built in oven for venting so much hot air. We thought it was installed wrong. Turns out it is also a GE Profile. Wish I had realized that before hand because I would not have bought another GE Profile. What a shame.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great oven if the shelves would just glide. Oven shelves are physically difficult to move. Often the oven light is on after the baking temperature is set & attained. Pressing on the oven door sometimes helps get the light off but other times it is a matter of removing the dish, adjusting the shelf--which is difficult because it does not move easily. It is totally exasperating! I never thought to move the shelves in the showroom. If I had experienced the difficulty with the shelves I would not have made the purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Really Bad. The oven shorts out. This has been an issue since I bought the oven. Unfortunately, I didn't address the issue until after the one year warranty (it would short-out periodically and I could reset the fuse at the main breaker). After several visits from a licensed electrician, who confirmed that the issue was the oven, i have decided to cut my losses and purchase a new oven.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First GE This oven came with my new home purchase and I love it! The features are great. I have always used another popular brand, and this GE is better! It's got regular baking and convection. It is quiet and has a nice alert system on it. The only thing I would say needs improvement is the time it takes to pre-heat, it's a little long. Overall still a 5 in my rating system!

We got this oven right before Thanksgiving as we were hosting a number of people. The convection bake setting worked wonderfully for our turkey and I really like the integrated meat thermometer. It is very quiet (especially comparing it to our previous 12-year old oven). It gets up to temperature quickly. It has exceeded my expectations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well This oven has the convection or traditional settings and both work well. The timer however, does not work at all. The rack settings are a bit challenging because the bottom rack is fixed in position. This is my first wall oven so perhaps that is a standard feature for that type of oven. Overall it works well and I am happy with it.
