Customer Questions & Answers

Do I need to buy a seperate blower with this?

Asked by: dnc
No. This unit comes with everything you need to and you should be able to attach to your downdraft portion located in your cabinet/floor (wherever it is located).

Asked by: WILLIS
Hello WILLIS, This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help. This Telescopic Downdraft System model PVB94DTBB is designed to operate with GE 30" cooktops. GE has not tested it with other brands so we cannot confirm if it is compatible with the Maytag. With the fact that it can retract when not in use and has a 390-CFM venting capability, it is a good choice to effectively remove smoke, grease, odors and moisture from a cooktop. Thank you for checking.

Switch for downdraft range hoods

Can the PVB94DTBB and the PVB94STSS be activated by their own on/off switch or do they automatically come on when the range is turned on?
Asked by: Butch
Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. To activate the telescopic downdraft vent, the ON/OFF pad on the control must be pressed. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Can the GE Profile 30 in. Telescopic Downdraft ( PVB94DTSS) be used to replace a GE Profile Performance 30" telescopic Downdraft Hood (JVB93SASS)?

My current downdraft hood was installed in 2001 and is not functioning correctly. I need to replace it badly.
Asked by: Dan
Hello Dan - this is Nancy at GE Appliances. We're sorry to hear that you have to replace your telescopic downdraft vent, and we're happy to help you. Yes, the PVB94DTSS would be a great replacement model for the JVB93SASS. However, please check the following Installation Instructions link as the units are different in size and adjustments to your countertop may have to be made: I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Customer Reviews

Profile 30 in. Telescopic Downdraft System in Black is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job I replaced a white one with the control switch on the top. This black one has a "remote" control switch. Performance - It works as it was designed Quality - Solid and functional Features - the "Remote" is a long wire connected to a flat control. I had no choice but this for an island cook-top. It was going in granite counter tops, therefore, there was no place to mount the remote without having the wires dangling in the pots and pans and we ended up drilling a hole in a drawer and running the wire through it and mounting the control on the side of the drawer. So you have to open the drawer to use it. Kind of klutzy but its not something I use very often. Appearance- Down, it looks good when it's down. Not so pretty in use, but I see no way to change that. Value - more than I wanted to pay but if you have an island in a vaulted ceiling, this is your only option. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not enough air flow... I have to say I'm not happy with this downdraft vent. There's not enough suction power, and I end up smoking up my house whenever I do any high heat cooking, unless I use the two burners closest to the vent. And, when I do that, the vent will inevitably get spattered by whatever I'm cooking. I suspect it's a fundamental conceptual problem, and probably not specific to this model. If you're cooking on a front burner and you're using a tall stock pot, it's unrealistic to expect a vent that's shorter and ~16" away to pull away any smoke. However, it also doesn't pull any smoke when I'm using a skillet on the front burners. I'd expect it to work in that case. If you have to use a downdraft vent like I do, I'd strongly suggest getting a cooktop with a built-in vent that runs down the center, so that it only has to overcome the distance to the top of the cookware you're using.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Discontinued colors caused me issues I had a white cooktop and now am working with a replacement vent which is black. Also this newer model doesn't have the same suction power of the ~10 years old model that I replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from looks good and works This product is a vast improvement on the 15 year old model we had. It is expensive.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works OK This works great for the back to burners, right next to the vent, but it doesn't seem to pull the steam from the front two burners without being turned on VERY high.  Then it's very loud.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Paired with a new gas cooktop and looks amazing! I recently renovated and replaced my island cooktop and telescopic downdraft with newer versions. This model is sleek and looks great paired with the 5-burner cooktop. The only feature that is somewhat odd is the operating button. Most are located on top of the downdraft itself, but this particular model comes with a separate operating pad. Fortunately my contractor was able to locate it on the outside of a cabinet for easy access.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from GE Downdraft I purchased this downdraft to replace my GE downdraft. I thought it would have the same features and be easy to install but after 17 years you made some changes. The installer started to install it yesterday but has to come back today to finish. He said it was different and he didn't know how to install it. I don't like the remote. It has to be attached to my cabinet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Monster piece of equipment While the downdraft is meh, what is awful is that it took up the entire kitchen island beneath to house the ductwork and system. It is MASSIVE. In fact, I no longer have any space to put my pots. Stick with a cooktop that has a downdraft in it. My Jennair was a combined unit and took up 1/10th the space.
