Is the slate painted steel? Will it have the same smudging issues as stainless steel?

Asked by: RRusso
They say the slate does not smudge as much as the ss. I think the slate is painted but not sure. I personally like white appliances. They show minumun dirt and they are always in style. Black appliances are classy but show dust 5 minutes after you clean them. I have had both and i am sticking with white.

Water dispenser??

None of the posted pictures of this model show a water dispenser whatsoever from what I can tell. What does "internal water dispenser" actually mean? Do you access the water from the inside or outside of the door? What model numbers have the dispenser?
Asked by: cclub
Hello- I am happy to help. The internal dispenser is on the left wall of the refrigerator. I am not certain why this is not shown. The water is accessed inside the refrigerator. The following two models have an internal water dispenser: I hope this helps. Thank you for checking. Lisa from GE Appliances

Customer Reviews

Profile 35.75 in. W 23.1 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator in Black, Counter Depth is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 55.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Refrigerator We needed a counter depth for a new house. I considered all brands, even thought about getting built-in. I have this unit since July 21st. Build quality is much better in its price range, compared to Korean or European brands. The plastic is more solid, dense, the outer metal is better, thicker. Inside shelves are solid, unlike in LG, for example. The units weights 350 lbs, comparable LG and Samsung are 270 lbs because of cheaper materials. The internal space is huge - no through the door ice and water dispenser, it also provides clean monolithic look of the fridge. The internal LED lights are great. The fridge has internal water dispenser, that gets filtered water and it cools it down to fridge temp through a small 1 liter container in the back of the main compartment. The fridge has actual digital thermometer which reports actual measured temp inside the freezer and the fridge. Korean brands report setup temp, they don't measure actual, for comparison. The freezer has SEPARATE sliding tray for the ice, and an upper tray next to the ice tray. These trays' rails are metal, unlike the plastic in LG or Samsung...The handle of the freezer doesn't push away from the body for easy opening, but then it is less likely to break either... The chassis is made in US, very solid design and built. The compressor is Panasonic, made in Japan - supposedly great, albeit a little noisy. The evaporator is the most audible thing that probably irritates people when it operates, the blowing fan is slightly audible too. All this internal components are present at any brand, the difference is the design and built of the chassis. GE uses thermo foam, which is a newer and better insulation material, but apparently conveys some noise. The MOST of the noise is made by the metal cover on the real low back, that covers the compressors. It is a solid heavy metal tin, however it is clumsily attached to the chassis and it rattles. The main power and electronics cables are there too, clumsily put and they rattle against the back cover, the compressor and the electric block of the compressor, and likely some of the pipes are rattling against that cover too. The sound effect is as a drum :)...Anyway, this can be easily fixed if you experience any noise, you just need to remove that cover, neatly tape away all hanging cables and cable connectors, so they don't rattle against the cover, maybe slightly push away some pipe. Then, after 2-3 days of the initial cooling down, the fridge will work perfectly. GE offers direct additional warranty for up to 5 years, it is VERY cheap and covers everything - labor, parts, everything. Koreans cover the parts only, labor costs start at several hundred $. I had a GE technician to come and adjust all of the above for me on day 3, due to the noise. The technician is not dealer, but GE, and it covers my city for GE appliances. The maintenance scheduling , the actual work went smooth, it was like going to your HMO. So far, I am VERY happy, the fridge matches our other GE built in appliances, and it looks gorgeous in the kitchen. I am getting the full coverage 5 year warranty from GE - it costs around one Benjamin :)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Loud low frequency droning noise from refrigerator Three service calls in less than a month to repair a loud, low frequency droning noise emanating from the refrigerator. According to the service tech, GE has a service bulletin on this problem and a prepackaged "compressor stop noise" kit to resolve it. Instead of GE repairing the problem before shipping the product, customers have to call in to complain about it. Overall, poor quality engineering, poor product workmanship.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It is what it is. This was not my first choice for a refrigerator, heck not even my 5th or 6th choice but this was replacing another refrigerator and so my options were limited. This refrigerator had to fit in a space designed for my previous GE side by side refrigerator. I really wanted to steer clear of GE again because it seemed like the previous GE had problems from the get go but again but again options were limited and this was really the only refrigerator that met all of our requirements. A little tip, if you are buying a refrigerator for a newly designed kitchen, look around to see average sizes (depth) of refrigerators and build your kitchen accordingly. You DON'T want to get stuck with "counter depth" because replacing it (as I had to do) will be a nightmare. As for this refrigerator, it is what it is. Anything is better than our old side by side which didn't fit anything. I hope this new french door model really gives the extra space we need. We do a lot of holidays and it's hard to find the space to house everything the night before. We've had the refrigerator for about 2 months, and the only fault is that it makes this weird vibrating noise every so often. I'm not sure if it is cause for alarm or just the refrigerator being itself. Also you hear the first drops of the ice but beyond that nothing major. The other thing are the wheels, whenever I open the refrigerator I pull the whole unit out a little. They need to have some sort of wheel lock to prevent this from happening. I guess I have to MacGyver something myself. The one thing that confused me is the anti-tipping bracket, which makes sense I guess (especially with the wheel thing) but not the way they want you to install it. I have marble floors which the bracket is supposed to be screwed into, um no way. I hope this review helps you in making your decision.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from LOVE the color and space, HATE the quality. Stopped working, lost our food LIKES: Love the color, easy to clean, rarely looks dirty, even with two young kids. Glad we got counter depth, and really pleased with the interior space, lighting, and controls. Ice maker in the freezer is ok. When it works, the temp seems accurate. NEUTRAL: Water on inside is nice to free up space on the door, but is a two handed ordeal and NOT usable by young kids. We end up having a jug of water on the door for them. We might go for model with ice in the door if we did it again. DISLIKES: When working, the fridge is RELATIVELY quiet, but it has more types of cycles than older fridges, and seems to cycle MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY. It is never super LOUD, but rarely even is it TOTALLY QUIET. If this was only dislike, we can live with it. I'm just sharing in case others are sensitive to it. PROBLEMS: 1. Had to refuse first delivery due to three obvious cosmetic issues, second delivery took weeks and still required TLC to clean up (foam insulation overflows some corners and is nearly impossible to clean off completely). Annoying for price of this fridge, but forgivable. 2. Horrible vibrating noise at first (could hear anywhere in the house), delivery folks said it would go away after it reached temp, it never did. Fixed it myself by finding a pipe that was vibrating against a plastic pan inside the back. A rubber grommet had fallen off. Annoying for price of this fridge, but forgivable. 3. First few weeks were ok, but after about a month, it would rattle a lot whenever the compressor started/stopped. We called GE service who came and made some adjustments to improve it. But it was never as quiet as the first month we owned it and a smaller still rattle happens. I would be annoyed by this if I didn't have bigger problems to worry about. 4. One day it just went DARK. No lights inside, no control panel, nothing except the faint sound of one of the back fans spinning. We move food to coolers, but it took them many days before they dispatched a NON-GE CERTIFIED TECH, who was unable to do anything accept admire the problem, then they sent a REAL GE TECH, who connected to the diagnostic port on the top and quickly determined there was failing fan which was throwing so many codes, it must be causing the main board to shutdown. Of course this all happened over thanksgiving, but we tried not to hold it against them and stayed constructive. There are worse things in the world that can happen. ANYWAY, it took one week for them to get back and install the part. We were just about to punt and buy a different fridge, but it started working and seemed "fine" again. 5. Weeks later, the cycling of fans on/off started to occur constantly. Hard to describe. Wasn't loud, but was ramping up and down too constantly, as if struggling to fully start a cycle. Called GE, but problem stopped before they could come out. 6. Weeks later, it WENT DARK AGAIN and stopped cooling!!! We unplugged it, waited, and plugged back in, and it started cooling a few hours later. Called GE and they said they would NOT send a tech because at the time of the call it was technically cooling properly. They said... "well, it sounds like you fixed the problem". UNACCEPTABLE. We cannot live with a fridge that may shut off on its own randomly and wait for us to unplug/re-plug it. If they are not able to diagnose the problem, we will be asking for a refund and buying something different. Good luck to all. Really hope this is just one bad apple.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ge profile refrigerator I love this refrigerator. It is so quiet and has so much storage on the doors that I have plenty of room. I love not having the water on the outside - it looks so much cleaner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Right Choice for my Kitchen but Somewhat Noisy This purchase was part of our kitchen remodel. It replaced a bottom freezer Amana that was fourteen years old. I needed a french door, counter-depth refrigerator to fit a particular space, and after researching options, chose this model. I did not want stainless steel (not a fan because of smudges/fingerprints) or an ice/water dispenser on the outside of the door. We've had the refrigerator for about two weeks, and there is much to like about it - lighting, flexibility of the storage space and ease of cleaning. I am assuming energy efficiency based on the reviews and specs. The only negative thing about this refrigerator is that it "rattles" when the compressor is running - I'm suspicious that something is just loose somewhere, as you can stop the rattle by pressing on the door handles. I have moved around everything in the doors, thinking it was a bottle or something causing the rattle, but that didn't solve the problem. I guess we will get used to the new noise, but as a quality control issue, this is a minus for G.E.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well designed, fit and finish perfect, what not to like? After doing much online research, reading reviews, and traipsing to many stores to get a hands on feel for quality and ease of use, this GE model was the stand out winner, as we had no use for the water dispense or ice maker, and wanted maximum storage space with flexibility of the shelving, with a great warranty to match. In the month we have owned this GE model, the deli drawer has come in handy, as are the large crispers which maintain fruits & veggies very well. Both doors hold a number of items including large juice containers in the sturdy bins. With the freezer on the bottom, more refrigerated food is at eye level. I especially like the bi-level drawers of the freezer, with large areas for bags of frozen food, or individually bagged items. Nothing gets lost anymore. A solid value, with a warranty that is unmatched with any other brand. I would recommend this to everyone needing a large French Door refrigerator/freezer that is counter sized. Even in my small kitchen it occupies no more room that my former 2 door refrigerator.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't spill anything, ever -- and get used to keeping your milk on the door Dumb, dumb, dumb design. There are 3 "spillproof" shelves but the only one we've ever spilled anything on, of course, is the bottom shelf, which is a PITA to take apart because it's attached to the veggie/fruit trays. Another complaint: the interior of the fridge is not something you can reorganize to better suit your needs. All tall things HAVE to go on the door unless you can lay them flat -- so your milk has to go on the door. Given that I've always been told to never put milk on the door (it goes bad earlier) I'm less than thrilled about this. IN general it seems like a poor design for space.
