We built a new house. All our appliances are GE. We have had nothing but trouble with the downdraft system. We had to have the drive motor replaced before we could even use the system. The unit raises slowly, must push the on/off button 3 times before it raises all the way up. The system raises crooked and is crooked when all the way up. GE has opted to buy back the vent system instead of replacing the system. We live in a rural areal and have had difficulty getting someone to work on GE appliances. My concern is future repairs. I bought all appliances with a extended warranty and GE won't send anyone out to repair the appliances.

We had this downdraft vent for less than a year. Within a year, the vent had been coming up slanted (see photo - check the bottom horizontal line of the vent and compare that to the cooktop to see how much it slanted.) It got worse, lately the vent did not come up completely, so the fan wouldn't run. We had to bring it down and up couple times to get it working.
A GE serviceman came by and said that he saw many units with this issues for this model. All they could do was to order a kit to clean it up, and it MIGHT fix it. But there was no guarantee.

I give this item zero stars. I've had it two months and it never comes up straight. GE states it's an installation problem, but their technicians can't fix it. I've had it serviced twice. Both times they claims it's the grease, and both times they replace parts (and grease), but still comes up crooked. Came with David Weekly home. So I didn't have a choice. If you do, don't choose this piece of junk! Go with another brand!
David Weekly is STILL trying to make this right for us.

Bought it for our new home. Had one in our other house and didn't want to build without it as its great.

It has been malfunctioning after only a few months of use. Then it completely stopped working.
GE came under the manufacturer warranty, fixed it (after ordering a part blablabla). A few months later, broke down again, it was just over a year so the protection plan kicked in. After many weeks of waiting for a part and many phone calls to try to understand what was going down, they left a voice mail saying they won't fix. Called HD back, nobody knew about anything, couldn't know more. yes they reimbursed me, but I have to pay for a new install, and I am stuck with the same model as I have granite countertops. And the on/off button being separating from the unit is completely stupide. It needs an extra cut out in your countertop.

My last one that we replaced with this one had a mind of its own. It might go up or it might not. This one always does what I tell it to. It's slim and lovely. The controls are easy to use. I am soooo happy!

Although I have only had this downdraft for 26 days it is great. I had a downdraft before but this one really works the way a downdraft should. So glad we decided to buy a new one rather than fixing the old one.
