Customer Questions & Answers

Why do so many people have the same complaint, including me?

If more than one person is complaining about the same problem then the problem is the product. My telescopic downdraft does not raise straight. It takes multiple attempts to get it straight and most of the time I have to pull it up to assist. It is three years old and no longer covered under the warranty. And because I live in a rural place GE will not service it. I also have to pay for the service and repair. Appliances should last more than three years. I've talked to multiple people at GE and no one will help me. This is outrageous considering the cost of the appliance. Not a fan and will not recommend this product to anyone.

It is definitely a common design flaw. Not only does it come up slanted. After two years in service, the unit is now making clicking noise when it goes down. Check out the video.

What causes you telescopic downdrafts to slant and not go up or down properly? Want to replace one but reviews are not too good.

Asked by: perky51
Three GE guys came out with a cleaning kit and removed the unit to clean it. They explained to me that there are springs, on both side of the vent, that are guiding the downdraft as it goes up and down. Evidently, the springs are not holding the vent evenly as it goes up or down and causes the vent to be slanted. It was blamed that may be the grease for the vent was dirty and is causing uneven hold. But the problem persists after they cleaned it and fixed it temporarily.

where can you get the filter for this vent other than from GE.

I had the downdraft vent, looking for replacing the filter. But GE sells the parts at very high price. I am looking for an alternative solutions.
Asked by: jd
Hello JD, I am happy to help. We suggest going with a GE Genuine Part, as we cannot be certain if the aftermarket parts are of the same quality and fit. Thank you for checking with us. Lisa

Profile 36 in. Telescopic Downdraft System in Stainless Steel is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad design - downdraft vent system We built a new house. All our appliances are GE. We have had nothing but trouble with the downdraft system. We had to have the drive motor replaced before we could even use the system. The unit raises slowly, must push the on/off button 3 times before it raises all the way up. The system raises crooked and is crooked when all the way up. GE has opted to buy back the vent system instead of replacing the system. We live in a rural areal and have had difficulty getting someone to work on GE appliances. My concern is future repairs. I bought all appliances with a extended warranty and GE won't send anyone out to repair the appliances.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Vent Comes Up Slanted, Sometimes Not Running We had this downdraft vent for less than a year. Within a year, the vent had been coming up slanted (see photo - check the bottom horizontal line of the vent and compare that to the cooktop to see how much it slanted.) It got worse, lately the vent did not come up completely, so the fan wouldn't run. We had to bring it down and up couple times to get it working. A GE serviceman came by and said that he saw many units with this issues for this model. All they could do was to order a kit to clean it up, and it MIGHT fix it. But there was no guarantee.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do NOT purchase I give this item zero stars. I've had it two months and it never comes up straight. GE states it's an installation problem, but their technicians can't fix it. I've had it serviced twice. Both times they claims it's the grease, and both times they replace parts (and grease), but still comes up crooked. Came with David Weekly home. So I didn't have a choice. If you do, don't choose this piece of junk! Go with another brand! David Weekly is STILL trying to make this right for us.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like the control panel mounted on the side of cab I like that the control panel can be mounted on the side of my cabinet without making another hole in the granite. Seems to work fine and do what it is supposed to do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product Easy install, went for this one over the stainless steel finish which wasn't worth the extra $$ and would stand out on dark counter tops. I think downdrafts are overpriced in general but home depot had the best price, quick shipping and great service.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Profile downdraft I have had this downdraft for 3 months and am not very happy. Does not always come on when it pops up. repair ma came and it has improved, but must call again as I have encountered another problem. Doesn't do a great job drafting unless on back burners. Had to get a new system as my old stove top died and had to replace down draft too as it was a complete unit. I miss my old downdraft. However I had to have a downdraft due to location and this product works better than nothing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Downdraft We had this in our last home and liked it so much that we bought another when remodeling the kitchen in our current home. Works great and retractable features keeps the countertop clear and looking fabulous.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Futuristic I purchased this because I did not want a hood in my way of our open kitchen. I like the clean look of it not being there and it looks like it is built into the cook top.
