Customer Questions & Answers

Can I use this oven with a downdraft behind and above the range top?

Asked by: Sopreseta
Hi Sopreseta- This is Sue at GE Appliances. Our Slide-in ranges are not designed for use with a downdraft venting system. We suggest to view our Range Vent Hoods or Over-the-Range Microwave Ovens featuring built-in exhaust and cooktop lighting. Thanks for checking with us!

Is there a kit to put on the back of the range to make it look like a freestanding range?

I am going to purchase a PGS908SEPSS slide in range
Asked by: Anonymous
Hello Joe, Thank you for your interest in the GE Profile 4.1 cu. ft. Slide-In Gas Range in Stainless Steel model # PGS908SEPSS Yes, the optional backguard is JXS32BB, black. It attaches to the range in the back and is 4" high. The purpose of the backsplash kit is to fill the gap between the back of the range and the wall when the countertop opening is cut to a 25" depth. This is a beautiful range! Donna with GE

Customer Reviews

4.1 cu. ft. Slide-In Gas Range with Self-Cleaning Oven in Stainless Steel is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely love this range We love everything about this range. The easy to clean stainless steel top, the sturdiness of the burner grates when cooking with large pots, the very low simmer and the maximum output burner, and the self cleaning oven. Not to mention that the delivery was first class.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great range, except for one tiny issue... I've only had the range a week, so I'll give my preliminary review now and come back after several months for one more in depth. I've baked something every day and have been impressed with the finished results. A tray of cookies was evenly browned; cinnamon rolls rose evenly; chicken and vegetables roasted beautifully. The burners on the stovetop come on quickly, no standing there listening to the clicking sound waiting for the gas to ignite. If you look at the top of the range, the right front burner is an extra large one, with a Power Boil setting. The burner is a little too large for my smallest omelet pan, but a pot of pasta cooked in no time. The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of an issue which is not mentioned in the stove specs, or in most reviews unless you specifically search for it. Because the elecrical components for the controls are at the front of the range, above the oven, there is a fan in there that helps keep them cool. It kicks in when it reaches temp, then turns off about 10 minutes or so after you're done baking. That's a great idea. However, it is VERY LOUD. It's not too bad when you're standing in front of the stove, but the fan hardware itself is located at the back of the range. My range is up against my dining room wall, and you can hear the hum and feel the vibrations against the wall. I'm very good at tuning out noises, so I can easily get used to it. But if your kitchen or home is laid out where somebody will always be behind where the range is located (for example, you slide it into an island with seating behind it), it will get annoying very fast. I debated whether or not to exchange this for a free standing range, but I really wanted a slide in and can live with it. I had planned on putting up wainscoting in the dining room, but if I do, I will probably take down the drywall first and add insulation to protect from the noise. This is not just a problem with GE, it is with all slide-in ranges for all manufacturers, as they all have the nifty buttons and flashy lights at the front. Not just gas, but electric ovens too. Freestanding ones generally don't have this problem, as the controls are already at the back of the range. So when you are considering your new range purchase, please keep in mind the sound issue, and where the new range is going to go in your home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I waited to review until I had owned the range at least a month - but I LOVE this range. It is just beautiful to look at and cleaning it is very easy. I don't have any problem putting multiple pans/pots on this stove - and I make pretty big dinners regularly (and I am also a short order cook for my toddler at the moment). The burners work great - though I think I could have used 1 more large high heat burner..however, again, for the price, look, and functionality of this range - you can not go wrong!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This range is great quality and price I love this GE profile range. It was exactly what I was looking for. Excellent stove top cooking and the oven bakes at the right temp. i tested the oven by making a cake from scratch, cooking was even and accurate. Stainless steel is harder to keep finger prints from showing but i knew that before I purchased it. this range beat out a KitchenAid and Maytag

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it ! just one minor thing... This replaced my old range dating back to 1971...and found my new GE a wonderful upgrade to the 21st century! Oven is easy to program, bakes/roasts, etc well. I'm impressed w the digital controls - for example, easy to preheat - set the oven temp and the then it beeps when it's ready. Cooktop - the cast iron add a nice look & burners heat nicely. My only beef is that each burner is a diff size & located on diff parts of the stove so it's difficult to see where to place your pan, and can be challenging to work w a pot that's cooking on a burner that's unreachable to the one in the front. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Loud fan; self-clean glitch Have had this range for 2 years. It looks great, works well however the when the oven fan comes on, it is extremely loud and for the price of this range it should not be that loud. Have read where this is normal. Also, the thermal safety switch shuts down the oven during the self-cleaning cycle about 20 minutes into it and it takes a while for it to reset and restore power. Have not been able to run a complete self-clean cycle because of this and it's an unusable feature. The GE repair technician said it's a design flaw and no way to permanently fix it. If not for these two issues, I'd rate 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Unit Only thing I have to caution a buyer on these units is be aware of the counter top depth because the stove sits over the front lip or edge of the counter top it may not slide completely back to the wall, leaving a noticeable space between back splash and back of stove. My fix was easy, with a call to my counter top people, they made me a filler piece from the same material of the counter top to fill the void. Would have been better if I planned for that when I ordered the counter tops, but fixing a old house up yourself is always full of surprises. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Oven ignitor not working Have had this range for 2 years. It's already had a thermal safety switch replaced and the oven fan is loud and now the oven ignitor is not working. There are two ignitors, one for the oven and one for the broiler so you can swap them out while you wait for the replacement and keep using the oven. Bought two replacements because if one went out, the other is sure to follow. Was able to diagnose and buy the part using online resources and it's a fairly easy repair but just another disappointment in an otherwise beautiful package
