Answer:
There are newer cooktops with vents, you just need to look more. Some people install a microwave with a vent over the cooktop to suck up the steam, otherwise it will just dissipate throughout the kitchen.

I would suggest GE Profile model PP989DNBB electric downdraft cooktop. There is a vent in the middle. The cut-out opening required and the downdraft specifications may be different than a model designed 17 years ago.
Model PP912BMBB cooktop can be installed with three venting options.
* Downdraft Venting System
* 30" Hood
* Over The Range microwave with fan and hood builtin underneath.
Please see the following.
* 30" Downdraft Vent model PVB940DTBB
* 30" Hood model JV635HBB
* Microwave model PVM1970DRBB

Answer:
This unit comes with a 3-wire connection only, contained in a flexible metal conduit. Cook-tops are 240V installations and typically are hardwired into a junction box in the cabinet under the cook-top. Check your connection. If it is a plug-in, you will need to call an electrician to install a junction box or look for another cook-top.

Isn't the 12" burner a bit large to be very useful. My large pots and skillets are 9 or 10 inches at the bottom. Thanks.

Answer:
Hello,
This is Lisa from GE. The right front burner can be used as a 9 inch or 12 inch burner. You have the option to use either. The 12 inch can be used for 12 inch frying pans, large stock pots, canners, etc. I hope this helps. Thanks for checking!

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 58 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good, efficient cooktop I bought this cooktop about a month ago. It was very simple and easy to install and hook up. It heats very well. I'm not crazy about it being solid, shiny black. Every smudge shows! I'd have preferred a mottled finish. The instructions tell you that the red light will stay on until the cooktop cools down to about 150 degrees then it will go off. I think the red light should stay on a lot longer. At 150 degrees, the cooktop is still WAY too hot to accidently touch it or set something on it. But, I'm getting used to it. I do like it better than my old coil stove, but it's not as easy to clean as I had hoped. You really have to scrub (with approved sponge and cleaner) to get the marks off. August 24, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Looks good, but... Bought this to replace an old 30" cooktop that died. While the features sounded good in the store- powerboil, an element that can be used as 9" or 12", etc. I never really looked at the burner arrangement while thinking how cooking is actually done. For example, the only use I have for a 12" element is making stew or pasta sauce, and in neither case do I need or want that element in front. Those don't need constant attention, and the front location makes some of the other elements inaccessible. Also, the small elements don't seem to heat as quickly as the previous cooktop. Plus, the indicator lights are wired wrong- the light for the right front element lights up when the right rear element is hot, and vice versa. October 6, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Great cooktop, but cracks too easy! Love the cooktop when it works, but I have cracked the top twice from minimal impact with a pot or lid. Now looking for my 3rd cooktop in 4 years. Would NOT buy this one again. November 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice clean cook top Easy to install, looks great, everything works well, burner temps just right. July 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Delivery was right on time, and cooktop works great. Before pulling out my damaged, but still working cooktop, I called the corporate phone number to make sure that indeed delivery was still scheduled for the following afternoon. The corporate person looked up the delivery, assured me I was on the docket. Pulled out old cooktop and new one arrived just as scheduled. October 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GE Profile Series Always wanted one like this! Love the attention of it being hot yet after the pot is removed. May 27, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice! Great product! Love the child lock feature although I have to be careful not to demonstrate in front of my son though because it buzzes if you try to turn the knobs when the lock is engaged so I am afraid he would find that playful in a sense. Otherwise I really like the features and have enjoyed the cooktop tremondously! My old one looked old and this one just gleems and provides quicker cooking times! May 22, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very pleased with the cooktop I had to replace work out 1985 "coil" cooktop along with new built in oven/microwave unit. Really pleased with the sleek, easy to clean ceramic cook top. March 11, 2015
