Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. This 36" cooktop requires a 33-7/8" wide countertop cutout. It also requires a minimum 2" clearance to the side wall from the cutout on each end of the cooktop. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Hello - This is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you.
When using the bridge burner, you should choose a pan that matches the circle/bridge area as closely as possible. The bridge burner is used in conjunction with the left front surface burner. You can use the left front surface burner and the bridge burner together as long as the pan matches the area.

Dear Floria - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you with regard to the cookware to use on an induction cooktop.
First, this cooktop is a radiant cooktop, not an induction cooktop. For induction cooktops, in order to create the magnetic field and heat the cookware, the bottom of the cookware must have some iron content. Compatible cookware for induction cooktops should be made of magnetic stainless steel, cast iron (works well but may scratch the glass unless it is porcelain coated), enameled steel or a combination of these materials.
For best results, use a pan that matches the element size. Pans should have a flat bottom and be at least 5 inches across the bottom. Cookware larger than the element ring may be used; however, heat will only occur above the element.
Please note that there are many types of cookware that cannot be used on the induction: Aluminum or aluminum clad, copper or copper clad, aluminum foil, glass/ceramic and some stainless steel products (because these will not attract and hold a magnet).
I hope this information is helpful! Thanks for checking with us! Read Less

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 37 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it Beautiful Design and excelent performance. I recomend it. February 3, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Substandard GE Product Despite using non abrasive cleaners, the dial indicators, being decals, easily rubbed off rendering the cooktop useless and it became a guessing game. When discussing this with GE Customer Service, we were told to buy another cooktop - that there was nothing they would do. So we did just that. But never another GE product. Be careful. September 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great cooktop Cooktop has plenty of burners that heat up quickly. The only thing I would change is possibly the color. It tends to attract dust very quickly. It's a challenge keeping it clean. April 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Maintanance, Reliable Preformance Cooktop Cooktop is easy to use safe and very easy to keep clean. I have had no problems what-so-ever with its preformance. This is a product that I would recomend to all of my friends. There are no trays to worry about grease build-up therefore, no more fire hazard. The safety features are outstanding. Thank you for such a wonderful product. August 7, 2007
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Doesn't work well for replacing your old cooktop. Better for new construction! We had to replace our old cooktop of 12 years because it finally died on us 5 days before Thanksgiving. You would think any 36" cooktop would be standard size-wise and can be interchangeable with other cooktops from other brands. Unfortunately, this one was a little short by a 3/4's of an inch. My contractor ended up placing a stainless steel one inch trim at the top of cooktop to hide the gap. As far as performance, I think the cooktop is fine and can handle our heavy load of cooking. It heats quickly and evenly and once you figure out the knobs, it's fairly easy to turn on. We previously had a Thermador but couldn't wait 2 weeks to get a new one otherwise we would be cooking our turkey dinner on a portable camping stove! Home Depot had this brand in stock and shipped out the next day. I gave it 3 stars because of the size issue. Otherwise, I would have given it 4 stars. Before you replace your cooktop, make sure that you measure the cut out and see if it works with the new one. December 6, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product I bought this to replace another GE cooktop. It fit perfectly in the opening and was very easy to install. Very easy to use and maintain. February 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Replacement cooktop with better features. Replacement for older model that had an element burn out. this is a newer model with better features & it,s a different color. My wife loves it! The price was excellent. November 22, 2011
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by GE Clean Design I really like this product. We purchased this for our new home as the appliances were outdated. It looks great in our kitchen and it's really a breeze to keep clean. I love the design. September 24, 2007
