Photos of the product nor the diagram of the cooktop in the owner's manual do not show any indicators for settings. How can you tell what setting you have selected for each burner?

Hello Sadie,
Thank you for your interest in the GE Profile CleanDesign 36 in. Smooth Surface Electric Cooktop in black model # PP975BMBB. This is a beautiful cooktop.
The touch controls do not provide a temperature. GE's Precise Digital Control System provides consistent "No Pulse" heat. Like a dimmer switch on a light, the power is on consistantly.
The power is reduced for lower settings. When you press the + or - pads, you will select a number or setting.
Hi = 100%
9 = 90%
8 = 70%
7 = 62%
6 = 55%
5 = 47%
4 = 39%
3 = 30%
2 = 22%
Lo = 4%
The element cycles on at 100% full power for some length of time and then shuts off completely for a period of time. The cycle repeats itself as long as the burner is turned on. The lower the temperature setting, the shorter the time element is on at full power and the longer the power is off.
HI -9------ Quick start for cooking; bring water boil.
MED HI 6-8-- Fast fry, pan broil; maintain fast boil on large amount of food.
MED 3-5----- Saute and brown; maintain slow boil on large amount of food.
LOW 2----- Cook after starting at HI; cook with little water in covered pan.
I hope this helps!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great, doesn't work I bought this model a while back and just got to install in my newly remodeled kitchen. Great surprise it doesn't work, just gives error and shuts down. June 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by We got a lemon... We bought this cooktop as a replacement for an older GE cooktop. We have had nothing but trouble with this cooktop. There are 5 burners, and every time I use more than 2 simultaneously, it shuts down. All burners go off and the controls will not work! It's a beautiful looking appliance, but the fancy "touch pad" is definitely troublesome. I'm also finding when we use the burner directly above the control panel, it heats up and affects the digital display on the number closest to the burner. We have to shut everything down and wait for the entire until to get COLD before we can even consider turning it back on. We've re-set it at the circuit breaker and everything. So bummed! I am a all out GE customer, but I'm questioning tis purchase for sure!!! Beware the cool looking electronics, they've led to nothing but trouble! :( February 17, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by GE cooktop - what a disappointment i purchased this cooktop 2 years ago and now the elements don't heat up. called GE service and the technician determined that we need 2 parts for a total of $700 plus the service charge of $85.00. I had my Amana cooktop for 31 years and only replaced it because I wanted a larger cooktop. what a mistake. I will never purchased another GE appliance and I will make sure t hat my friends and relatives are warned. October 3, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by The unit spontaneously shuts off while cooking After 14 months of use, my cooktop spontaneously shuts off when cooking, and tries a period reset after 15 minutes. After an hour it mat regain consciousness. November 10, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Stove Top Dimensions I am remodeling my kitchen and ordered this stove top with the understanding that the height was 3.25 in. as described on the website. I had drawers made to go under this stove top. When it got here and we went to install it, we discovered there is another box attached on the 3.25 in that increases that to almost 6 in in depth toward the back of the stove. Also, the power conduit was installed facing the front of the stove which eats up even more space. April 21, 2010
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Ultimate Cooktop Instant cooking: push a button, select desired heat level and go... The simplicity of usage is fabulous. The 5 burners of various sizing and power outputs, gives the ability to use a wide range of cooking utensils, from small sauce pans to oversize stock pots. With the complete sealed glass top, clean-up is a pleasure, even with spillage and burnt on mistakes. The elegance when not in use is superb, the curve of the front adds a stylish design element . The safety feature of requiring a temp setting after turning burner on is a blessing when mistakes occur. I would highly recommend this cook-top to anyone who enjoys cooking and wants easy cleanup. This unit was simple to install, the pigtail is long enough to reach most any power supply. Minimal intrusion in the underside of the cabinet makes loss of drawer/cabinet space minor. 11/09 November 16, 2009
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Black ceramic type heating surface cooktop This was also an up-grade cooktop through the customer representative of the new home builder since I wanted an electric cooktop instead of gas. I have had electric cooktops for greater than thirty-five years and have had good service with most of the different types. during my normal routine use it seems to be of substantial capabilities. BUT during my first family get together we attempted to make a variety of different types items to choose from, to which trying to use a few of the elements at the same time the whole cooktop shut down delaying the process of having the menu completed at the same time. Very disturbing and an embarrassment. a lesson well learned to not try to use to many units on high together. Another option is the touch type setting adjustment on the stove top, of which the first time the unit was wiped down the elements came on. We had to go to the operators manual to determine how to lock and unlock the stovetop elements, that seems to be sufficient since understanding it operation. August 4, 2015
