Customer Questions & Answers

Is there a way to set the plumbing to reuse the water now discarded into the drain by model # PXRQ15RBL?

Asked by: sue
Sure; we ran the discharge water tube through the wall to a catch bucket outside the kitchen window and use the more highly mineralized water from there to water house plants - they seem to love it

My PXRQ15RBL leaks at the faucet base, how can this be fixed?

I have had the unit for a little over a year and the leak just started about a week ago. I have checked the drain line and there is no obstruction. I have also cut the 1/4 inch tubing and reattached thinking it may have loosened up over time but still no cure for the leak. I also need to say that it only leaks after the unit has stopped producing RO water. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

Here's what happens: The system takes in hard water and during operation extracts all the "bad stuff". During the process, a certain amount of water passes through an air chamber at the base of the faucet. After a while the end of the drain tube that exits in the vicinity of the garbage disposal unit gets clogged with "Gunk" and the draining water backs up and starts coming out the air chamber. Easy fix if you are somewhat flexible is to lean over the sink and blow into the little air gap hole where the water is leaking until you can hear the air coming out the clogged end. I suppose if you had an assortment of tools, you could use an air jet from a paint compressor or air brush - I haven't tried this fix but I believe a blast from a can of compressed air normally used for blowing away stuff from a computer keyboard would do the job - it doesn't take much.

why only a 2-pack filter?

The pxrq15rbl ro system requires 3 filters and I can only find the 2 pack filters for sale. Seems strange since 3 filters are needed. I am looking at the fqropf filter. Maybe I have the wrong filter part number??????? Please advise. Thanks

The two "outside" filters filter the inlet water that goes to the RO (Center) Unit and then again from the R/O unit to the storage tank - if you do the rather tedious "sanitizing" procedure the R/O unit will probably last a long time. We change the two outside filters on July 04 and New Years day every year - omit the sanitizing procedure and just change the R/O unit every even year (12,14,16,18, etc.) Have not noticed any diminished water quality so you might get away with a longer interval between R/O unit changes but we have been using ours for 9 years - great tasting water and never a problem - you might be able to get the filters online for less than what they charge at the Home Improvement Centers, or from GE.

Profile Reverse Osmosis Premium Water Filtration System is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 125.

GE put an "air gap" in the faucet which can allow a backing up drain system to destroy the integrity of the faucet. If you can avoid this "do not flush drain with sink stopper in second sink" it is a good system.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Install It was to replace another unit so it was easy to install and since I just installed it I can not say anything else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaker I bought this product about a year and a half ago and after six months, the base of the faucet started to leak, so I contacted GE and I was sent a replacement base. Six months later, the base started to leak again, but by then, it was out of warranty and I was told that the replacement base cost was $55. This product is good, but certainly not reliable. The water tubes are slipped over the nipples at the base and apparently do not create a robust and lasting seal. Unfortunately, I found out about the leaks after the water had been leaking for a while, which meant extensive water damage to the cabinet underneath.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not waste your money Went through 2 of these systems and both leaked and flooded my cabinet and then stopped working, after few months of use! Stay away!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product uses great technology, but replacment filters are way over priced. For four people family I have to change filters every quarter. It is not possible to use inserts longer, because they plug to point of water not running any more (it was not a case in previous generation of revers osmosis filters). Also, generic filters can't be used - only manufacturers brand (they are expensive). Fountain mounted on the sink wobble no matter how many times you try to mount it (there is only one very small set screw holding it). Other than this system is easy to maintain and quality of filtrated water is great. I would recommend it only if you packets are bit dipper than averege.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product but installation a little tedious Following the Installation Instructions was going great until I got to the "Feed Water Supply" section. As the supply valve lines in my house are 3/8 inch connections, I had to refer to the Optional Installation 1 section, which is a mess!! I had to go back to Home Depot to purchase an adapter hose and plug to make the 1/2 inch Water Supply Fitting (provided with the kit) work. (HD, why not just include a 3/8 inch Water Supply Fitting in the kit?). The Installation Instructions should include using a blow dryer to heat the black 1/4" tubing for faucet installation as the tubing does NOT fit well onto the barb. Installation Instructions should also include a section after Storage Tank Installation detailing how to disconnect each tubing (1 at a time) from the bracket, route the tubing throughout the installation area to avoid inadvertent snags and pulls, sharp corners, etc, then cut the tubing to fit and reinsert into the bracket. Once all tubing has been routed as desired, secure in place. The last item is that the Pre- and Post cartridges are recommended for a 6 month change-out cycle, but there is no mention anywhere in the manuals explaining when the RO Membrane Cartridge should be changed out. All in all, an excellent system once installed,,, very much worth the money. Installation would be much more straightforward if the kit included a 3/8" Water Supply Fitting and the instructions were a bit better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good This is good filtration system easy to install and easy to maintain. One thing I do not like about it is that sensor which warns you of need to replace filter is based on time passed rather than filters being full. Every six months you need to change two filters and once year you change membrane. Easy and good. Whole lot less expensive and better quality than you’re your pitcher based filters, or buying bottled water.
