I owned the previous version of this GE RO water filter for 12 years. It worked quietly and efficiently. So when it came time to replace it, it was a natural choice to purchase the current model, which appeared to be identical. What a mistake! GE has changed the design so that the current model makes a variety of obnoxious noises, including loud gurgles and weird high-pitched hisses that sound like a sci-fi laser weapon. This must be a defective unit, I thought, since it was installed by a professional plumber, so I called the GE help line. When I held the phone up to the faucet so the GE rep could hear the noise, she said, "Nope, that's the normal noise you'll hear whenever the filter is operating. If you don't like the noise, take it back to the retailer for a refund"--which I did, immediately. Do not buy this product unless you've always wanted a gurgling, hissing water feature in the middle of your kitchen.

Not hard to install, it's much better to use this system than buying water from the store.

Went through 2 of these systems and both leaked and flooded my cabinet and then stopped working, after few months of use! Stay away!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by NevadaDweller Stopped working after 18 months
We had this system installed by a plumber about a year and a half ago. Well, after filling a few cups one day, no water was coming out. So, my husband took it out, checked the pressure, all of the water lines, etc. We cannot find the cause as to why it stopped working. I just purchased the brand new filters a few months ago, such a waste! I would not recommend, we are now searching for a more reliable system.

I wish I could give this piece of cr@p a zero star. The return supply that goes into the sewer line has a flaw. After working for a couple of weeks, water started leaking from the return supply under the sink. I tried to fix it several time but it would not work. I finally had to rip it out. Almost flooded under my sink cabinet, which I have to now replace. Would not recommend this product.

I had a Culligan system, and they had proprietary filters. It would have cost me as much to have them come out and replace the filters as this system cost. So, I just swapped them out. Installation was easy, and the instructions were pretty clear. After making the switch, the water actually tastes much better than it did with my old Culligan reverse osmosis system.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Yoshi The system stop working less than a year.
I just replaced filters (from Walmart) on 6/16/16, working till today 7/6/16.
The filtration water stop coming out from faucet. Started about week ago less, and less, and then stopped, now nothing coming out from spout/faucet.
What I have done; disconnect whole system hoses and reconnecting back, but still the same none of water coming out from faucet. Checked supply water pressure is 75psi.
So, now I have $280 system don't work, I used this system for about 1 year.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Neelam Water tastes good and ice is odor free.
This system came nicely packaged, all parts included to finish the installation. I initially planned to install it myself but ended up calling a pro because I also wanted to run the filtered supply line to my fridge supply line.
I however saw my plumber installing it. To be honest, he made it look so easy that I personally think I could actually tackle it myself (excluding the line for my ice maker). The tank sits under the sink, the filter housing is mounted on the side of the sink’s cabinet wall. For 3/8” drain pipe, a hole was drilled just before the trap and then the drain pipe was secured using a saddle clamp. For the ice maker, my plumber used a T-adaptor to connect 3/8” water outlet tube for the faucet and the ice maker water supply.
I did not have a hole for the faucet so the plumber made a new hole using 1-3/8” thin wall hole saw with a hammer drill and all-purpose oil, took less than 2 minutes to drill.
Overall, it took him about an hour and half to fully install it.
The faucet is chrome finish and looks stylish. It’s not a perfect match for my stainless finish kitchen faucet but still blends fine. You can install the faucet so that the handle is on the right or the left side. The neck is moveable too.
Now that it’s all installed, I am happy with what it offers. The water tastes clean and I certainly feel the difference in quality. The most noticeable difference was in the ice. The ice cubes had unpleasant taste to it which is totally gone.
Recurring cost is the filters that need changed every six month. Given the money I had been spending on bottled water, the filters are a lot cheaper.
About longevity, I can’t say anything yet. The tank is Taiwan made, the filter housing is American and some parts are from China. I have it professionally installed so there is nothing wrong with my install. I will update this review & rating if and when I notice any issues with the performance.
In a nut shell, it’s a good system, does not cost arms and legs to install and to maintain plus its reducing my carbon foot print.
