The sanitizing process that is required during the installation, however, takes about 40 minutes but most of that is letting the tank fill or empty. You don't have to baby-sit if you set a timer. Because of the food-grade preservative used in the RO membrane, after replacement you have to fill and drain the system 4 times before you can use the water. This takes up to 4 hours per filling, so you're looking at an all day job, but again, you don't have to baby-sit it. Read Less

My filters were changed less than 3 months ago but I have never replaced the membrane. Installed 6/19/12. When it is time for the filters to be replaced the water stops flowing. Does this mean that my membrane is ready to be replaced now as well? It is to short of time to replace the regular filters since they last about 6 months. Suggestions?

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I needed Filter fit my RO system. Just what I needed. Website was easy to navigate. February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by easy to get I have been getting my filters from an online source and they have been back ordered for a long time. I was very happy to find what I needed at Home Depot and to pick it up at the store No shipping cost! October 23, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Buy As part of a GE Reverse Osmosis system, this is one of the easiest replacement parts that I can buy. Easy to twist off, easy to twist the new one on. January 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to replace, but purging preservative tedious process Easy enough to replace, but having to refill and drain the RO tank many multiple times to eliminate the sanitizing chlorine, then again to remove the "food grade" preservative in the RO element itself after replacement is tedious and takes the better part of a full day or more (Can have to wait up to four hours for RO tank to refill after each complete drain process). Thankfully, the cartridges and RO element have lasted a long time, but I am not hydrating an entire family--just myself and two dogs-so not many gallons used per day. Also, by the time you buy the replacement cartridges and RO cartridge, you are close to paying for an entirely new system, although this particular system has been superseded by a newer version. Sadly, the filter cartridges are not interchangeable and these are no longer carried in-store. Only available now on-line. That said, I have been satisfied with the performance of the RO system and the water quality. October 14, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by GE Membrane replacement filter I am a master plumber who has had this system for over six years now. it has been the best RO in my mind but now the price of the membrane filter has skyrocketed to $97.00!! This only needs to be changed out every two years but the price is not favorable when they used to be a lot less in the past. September 27, 2015
