Connect the black wire to the terminal that isn't connected to the red, white, or green (bare copper) wires. Unlike a car or DC voltages where black is considered ground or negative (-), black alternating current (AC) wire was arbitrarily chosen to be the "ungrounded" hot wire providing 170 peak volts. The red wire in your load panel circuit breaker box is also hot, but phased 180 degrees away from black so when black is positive red is negative thus doubling the voltage to 240VAC from 120VAC. The red and black wires are the ones that will shock (painful) or electrocute (kill) you if you're grounded --or touching the black and red at the same time.
If you don't know where to place the black wire you should probably call a licensed and insured "journeyman" or "master" electrician that has been tested for their knowledge and experience wiring per the NFPA 70 National Electric Code (NEC) to install your circuit breaker and wiring.
