Questions & Answers

Is a continuous runoff of water into the drain expected ?

I've installed the system and emptied the tank thrice. I still hear water running into the drain. Is it normal for water to be running through the system even when the tank is full ? If not, how do I fix it ?
Asked by: pmenon
I had RO system for ~5 year and the drain was on and off...Then, I replaced it with a new one and noticed that the water wasted would never stop. I put a 6 gallons bucket to collect the waste water under the sink, and the bucket was filled in ~1hr and 15 min. That is more than 3,000 gallons wasted per month. I disconnected it, and I'm planning to replace it with a different RO. PureValue 5EZ50 Five Stage RO System

How does this filtration system work?

Does it use any chemicals to filter the water? Exactly what is the filter made of?
Asked by: Sharon
It works by forcing the water through special membranes that only allow water to pass, and trap all impurities. There are good informational videos here

Possible causes for low to no flow?

We have replaced the pre and post filter twice, the membrane, auto shut off valve. I just did another test to rule something out: I let it fill up for an hour and turned the water off, the spicket on, and only a half cup of water was total.. Could it be the tank? we have already replaced the unit once due to some other issue 3 years ago, this is getting annoying. Please any help is appreciated.
Asked by: Alex
Thank you all for replying. We finally had someone come out and look at it. The tank needed air. The glory of having a full force spicket instead of 27 minutes per gallon is SUCH a relief!

Customer Reviews

Reverse Osmosis Filtration System is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 338.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Add air as RO water volume decreases I bought this 10 years ago. It has worked well but had limited capacity. Recently I had trouble getting more the 8 cups of water out of it. I thought the air bladder had lost air over the years. The instructions were no help. I was looking for a schroeder valve to add air. There was a plastic plug on the bottom side of the storage tank that looked like a drain plug. I held my breath as I unscrewed it. There was the undocumented schroeder valve. I turned off the water to the RO filter. I opened the faucet for RO water and drained some water from the tank. Then I used a bicycle pump to add air to the tank. Instructions for other tanks say, add air for a pressure between 5-7 psi on and empty tank. I added enough to get quite a flow from the tank. I think GE purposely didn't document this valve as the side of the tank indicated air adjustments should be performed by a qualified technician. .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great System but Bad Check Valves Great system but have had 2 brand new units out of the box with bad check valves causing the system to run constantly. If yours runs constantly check out the youtube video on how to replace the check valve on a GE Reverse Osmosis system.

This model is newer than our last purchase with the faucet being much more durable. The installation was easy for my husband who is a maintenance mechanic. The quality of the water is outstanding.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Constant Leaking From the Faucet. I bought this system and installed it to replace an older version of the same system. The older system leaked from the air gap hole on the faucet, and initially, the new one did not. It has now started to leak every time the tank fills. Water flows out of the hole in a constant, moderate stream until the tank is full, stops for a time, but then starts again as soon as water is taken from the faucet again. I've tried everything and went absolutely by the book with installation, but I cannot get it to stop. I finally had to resort to a makeshift system to keep my countertops from flooding, and to keep water from leaking through the hole at the base of the faucet under my sink. In addition to the leaking, the design of the faucet is such that it was extremely difficult to tighten the set screw, because it is located at the back of the base, which in my case, was so close to the back splash that it was a long and tedious process to tighten the screw, accessing it blindly with limited space to use to small Allen wrench provided. I had to install the faucet backwards in order to have easier access to the set screw, and to direct the leak from the air gap hole into my sink, and away from the back of my countertop. Overall, the leaking is the deal breaker for me. A lot of water is wasted, and I am constantly drying the area. I regret this purchase, and will not make the same mistake a third time. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to purchase and install a completely new and different system at this time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely best value Pro - this unit is half the cost of other units Pro - this unit installed in just about 2 hours start to finish with reading instructions Pro - instructions were clear and easy to understand and parts were color coded. Con - instructions indicate the system "before use" needs to be cleaned and sanitized. This product is not far from being the easiest thing I have ever installed makes tit worth the effort to clean and sanitize and you get to know the system and how to trouble shoot should an issue arise. I am glad I did it!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Filters water great.but... Systems been in three years and now its failing, and now i have to order parts i dont need to fix the one part i do need because its attatched to the base unit. The little brass juction piece that the tubing connects to is all i need and it does have two screws holding it in place on the base unit, however, in the owners guide on the parts list it does't have that piece on it, only as a base unit to the spout . no picture taken before i started this review, sorry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much Better Water We purchased and installed this unit after many years of a brown slime that would form in our pipes and fill our bath tubs, this coming from a public water supply. This unit filtered it out until the pre-filter was caked in black junk. If we wouldn't have had the filter installed, the junk would be caked inside of us. It took about 6 months until the unit stopped producing water. If there were less debris and matter in the water, I think the cartridges would have lasted longer. The only grip I have is the amount a water for start up, you need to run the water for 20 minutes during disinfection and then run another 16 gallons before use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It only pours water down the drain. I can't wait to use this system. I just need it to work. It constantly pours water down the drain and when I turn the faucet on a small stream of filtered water pours out. After only 1 second, the stream stops. I think mine is defective. I will give the company a chance to rectify the situation.
