What is the membrane for in this system? How often does it need to be replaced?

Asked by: Anonymous
The mebrane separates impurities as do the filters - It functions like the liver in the human body. The compete system gives you pretty pure water. It must be replaced once a year, while the filters need to be replaced twice a year.

Does this system remove flouride from the public water source ? Can I self install this product ? I am not an expert but I do small jobs at home

I'd like to make the buy decision based on its capability to remove flouride from public water source. My kids are getting enough flouride to save the tooth decay in their toothpaste etc. I dont need them to swallow more. Also, I do small jobs at my home but am not an expert plumber. Does this product come with ALL necessary accessories to complete self installation ?
Asked by: RKov
Yes, the system removes fluoride; which is also one of the reasons I purchased it. And if you can use a screwdriver and a wrench you can install it. Everything is in the box except the tools. No harder than installing a faucet on a sink.

Reverse Osmosis Filtration System is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 287.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from slightly complicated installation The unit come with directions and a parts list, and lists the additional items you will have to buy for installation. However, they drawings in the installation guide are misleading when it comes to the "insert" they call for t use with the tubing. We went to our local Home Depot to purchase the other parts necessary and it took 2 associates to figure out what the "insert" was since the illistration was different than the actual part. The insert was finally found in the aisle with the plastic tubing. It should also be noted that if you live in Massachusetts you must have this item installed by a licensed plumber, something that is not stated on the box. If you have older or cheaper cabinets you may have to reinforce them to hang the holder for the filters.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from "Delightful" experience Open the box to learn I need go back to HD for a fitting. Returned to HD to buy correct fitting (not the one stated in the instructions) Followed poorly written and incorrect instructions - realized I had to backup and disconnect a tube - broke a cheap connector - back to HD to ask for a part out of an on-the-shelf unit - they were VERY NICE and did it for me!!!!! Unit assembled - the wife says the water tastes like plastic - we are still buying bottled water

Locking tab of faucet broke during installation because instructions said to turn in wrong direction; repaired with epoxy. Booklet is good in this respect: it has very clear explanations of how each part functions, and when and why to replace filters and membranes, as well as minor parts.

The ice maker worked fine with our prior RO Unit. Why is it not working with this one, seems water isn't getting to the refrigerator?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Effective and Affordable Water Filtration System The tap water at my home is not always clear and has a strong chlorinated taste. To help improve the clarity and taste, I decided to obtain the GE Reverse Osmosis Filtration System, Model GXRM10RBL. The Reverse Osmosis System filters the water 3 times and includes a pressurized storage tank that is mounted under the sink. I am quite surprised at how the filtration system has improved the taste of the tap water. Installation of a Reverse Osmosis Filtration System is more complicated than filter only systems. However the instructions are very well written with good illustrations. I did have to purchase a new fitting for tapping into the cold water supply line at the shutoff valve, and a drain fitting for connecting the backwash connection. The filter and faucet use convenient push-in connections, so make sure to measure and cut-off the plastic lines properly before making the connections. The drinking faucet mounts in the spare hole that most sinks have, or requires a new 1 1/4” hole to be drilled in the sink. It also includes a filter indicator reminder when the filters need replacement. Unlike many other competitors, the GE Replacement filters are affordably priced, making for a cost effective solution for filtered water. If your tap water is poor quality or has a chlorine taste, check out the GE Reverse Osmosis Filtration System. I’m very satisfied with the improvement in water quality and taste.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear drinking water reading the instructions seems confusing till you do it step at a time then it seems clear and easy. It came with all the hardware and a filter wrench. I did have to get a new shutoff valve for the water supply. I installed the drain to the outside instead of the sink drain due to lack of room. It does take a bit of time to put the system on line with cleaning of all the water area parts. I had a water test sheet and was able to see that my water was a good candidate for the system. My wife drinks a lot of water and says the water is nice and fresh tasting. The storage tank hold about 2.5 Gal of filtered water. Plenty for both of us to drink. It does make a little noise when filling, Not a lot .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much Better Water We purchased and installed this unit after many years of a brown slime that would form in our pipes and fill our bath tubs, this coming from a public water supply. This unit filtered it out until the pre-filter was caked in black junk. If we wouldn't have had the filter installed, the junk would be caked inside of us. It took about 6 months until the unit stopped producing water. If there were less debris and matter in the water, I think the cartridges would have lasted longer. The only grip I have is the amount a water for start up, you need to run the water for 20 minutes during disinfection and then run another 16 gallons before use.

The black and thin pipe for dirty water start to block by dirty that cause the dirty water leak between sink and faucet's junction from the bottom of faucet. Having to clean clog from the pipe every week to make sure it will not leak and cause all kitchen flood. GE may consider to make the black pipe thicker and bigger so it could handle the dirty water out of house not cause the dust sticky on the pipe. Thank you
