Answer:
I have follow-up question on "real Reverse Osmosis membrane is the horizontal one, or (#3)filter.".
Is water test or water flow is the only way to know if #3 filter is good or bad? What is the part number for that? I am not sure, if I have seen that 3rd filter at Homedepot.

Kazi: You have to notice that the two filters in vertical position (from left to right #1 and #2) are the pre filters to condition the water, and the real Reverse Osmosis membrane is the horizontal one, or (#3)filter.
The home Depot sales a 2 pack filter set, for your model # GX RM10 RBL wich is a GE RO system. While they are identical filters, you can use them to replace the #1 or #2 filter elements.

You have to realize "when" is the time to replace the 2 pre filters or the # 3 RO membrane!. A good sign is when you notice that you don't have sufficient water flow coming from the system. That means your H1, or/and #2 are clogging. Replace #1 first. If water flow is good You are set to go, If the taste of your water is excellent. If not enough flow is present, then replace #2, and observe flow and taste again. If not, replace #3 because it is also clogged or extinguished. The last condition almost never happen, unless you have replaced #1 and #2, several times.
Finally, remember to follow GE operation manual, with the disinfection procedure with chlorine. this is very important. Do not contaminate the RO membrane with chlorine; it will be destroyed. Blessings! Read Less

Hello Kazi - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you.
Yes, there are two filters in this set. The FX12P reverse osmosis water filter set features a pre-filter and post-filter that goes with water filtration models PNRV12, GXRV10 and GXRM10RBL. The top piece is the reverse osmosis cartridge housing.

when/why should I replace the RO cartridge in a GXRV10ABL01 system?

The system does not fill the holding tank to capacity only producing about 12 cups at a time even after not being used for 12 hours or so. I am replacing the pre and post filters, FX12P but note that the RO cartridge, FX12M, might also need to be replaced. I don't find any reference as to when/why/or if this should be done now or if a worn RO cartridge is reducing the amount of water to the holding tank. The system has been installed for about 9 years.

A water tester is like $17.00, if I can taste the water BY DRINKING IT, then, I don't need the instrument.

I notice that my filter tends to run almost as soon as I fill a glass or pot. I hadn't thought about having to also replace the RO cartridge. In a single member household, I wouldn't think that I have used that much water already!

Hello Dave,
Thank you for your question on the GE RO GXRV10ABL.
The RO cartridge should be replaced every 2 to 5 yrs depending on water quality. You can call Legends to get test strips if desired. Phone # is in owner's manual.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Routine filter replacement These filters need to be replaced every 6 months. Normally it takes about 2 hrs. due to the sanitation step. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Filter set Water taste bad than before dont know why? After changing it June 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not same as genuine GE filters I have had the GE RO system for ten years and have always purchased genuine GE replacement filters at Home Depot. Last week I stopped at the local store and found that only the HDX branded replacement carbon filters were available. They do not perform as well as the genuine GE filters. The first gallon of water from the system was full of carbon, and after flushing the system with the recommended eight gallons, the product water still has carbon particles in it. This has never happened the nineteen other times I have changed the filters. April 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Filter set Filters did a great job, replaced both after 7 months. And was shocked to see what it collected. One of the filters was a light reddish color. And the other had a light grayish color. Proud I installed this system. Great to know I have clean drinking water for myself and family. April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product at very good price. I have been using this system for over 15 years and the filters function faultless. They are easy to change and by testing my water every 3 months or so I can maintain clean water and change only when necessary. March 29, 2016
