Product Overview

  • Lifetime guarantee - will not shrink, crack, break down or yellow
  • Weatherproof - sun-proof, freeze-proof, flexible
  • 30-minute rain-ready - permanently waterproof
The outside of a home is exposed to harsh outdoor elements throughout the year. Extreme heat, the sun's UV rays, and freezing temperatures can cause acrylic and siliconized acrylic caulks to lose flexibility and degrade. GE Silicone II Window and Door is permanently flexible and will not break down so it can protect a home as it settles or as the seasons change and joints expand and contract. This movement can cause degraded acrylic caulk to crack and crumble over time, leaving gaps for air and water to seep through. Those leaks can lead to water damage, mold growth, and higher energy bills. GE Silicone II Window and Door develops strength and adhesion quickly so it can be exposed to water in as little as 30 minutes. Some caulk requires up to 24 hours or longer before it can be exposed to water. For homeowners trying to squeeze home maintenance projects into the weekend or pros who are looking to move on to the next job, GE Silicone II can decrease the waiting time, helping increase convenience, speed, and efficiency. 100% Silicone sealant is widely considered to be the best caulk for sealing areas that will be exposed to water.
  • Suitable for application on windows, doors, siding, trim, moulding, baseboards, vents, around wires/pipes and other attic/ basement applications
  • 100% silicone is 100% waterproof
  • Lifetime guarantee - will not shrink, crack, break down, wash away or yellow
  • 24 hour cure time
  • 100% silicone will not shrink, crack, break down, or wash away
  • 30 minute rain-ready, caulk can be exposed to rain in as little as 30 minutes and the caulk won't wash away

can you paint over this caulk

Asked by: Charlie
Not this particular version of the GE caulk. But GE has this same silicone caulk in a different version called GE Silicone II "Paintable" caulk. Just be sure to get the paintable version. You can buy it in individual tubes in the stores, but for some reason you can only buy it by the case online. I have attached a photo of it.

Some people say they have trouble with the caulk coming out the back of the tube. The only time this happens is if you don't break the seal inside the point. It is sealed if you squeeze it hard enough it has to come out somewhere!!!

It's true that nothing beats the performance and durability of silicone, but it is a chore to even obtain said result! First, ensure you have an absolutely perfect joint to caulk. Smooth bathroom tile-to-tub seams...smooth and even door frame/trim-to-siding seam...smooth window-to-siding seam, etc. If you have an even gap, uneven seam, uneven texture...then forget about it. I know silicone is difficult to work with, but this stuff takes the cake! This Silicone II is particularly thin and skins quickly. Tooling is messy, especially if aforementioned seam/gap is not perfect. Cleanup is impossible. Even mineral spirits and/or WD-40 is hardly effective. If you fail at a perfect job and want to remove it, then wait until it cures. Go back and scrape it away. If you have a surface that can take some abuse (e.g. cement or ceramic tile), then use a wire-wheel on a hand-drill to get the remnants. Also, I should mention that this particular caulk NEVER fully cured. After several days, it was still gooey under the skin layer.

First time using it, caulk came out the back of the tube so it was useless. I took it back to Home Depot where they replaced it for another tube. 2 months later, I cut a nice size hole on the new tube and try to use it. I am very careful this time squeezing the caulking gun for the first couple squeezes to get it to come out of the front of the tube. Comes out of the back of the tube instead, again. Absolutely worthless.

One area I had to seal with a thin bead and it worked great. Another task was filling in gaps where my outside fountain leaked. It did the job there as well. Good product at a fair price.

This is the neutral-cure silicone which does not rely on the release of acids during the curing process. This is desirable for the smell during curing, but it also means that the caulking adheres to more surfaces including plastics according to the manufacturer. One day before use, I recommend setting out a test bead on a piece of cardboard. Check back the next day to ensure that the caulking cures. One cannot tell by looking ahead of time if the caulking has expired and will not cure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Only Neutral Cure Silicone Sealant I Could Find For Metal. Until I did my research, I was under the impression that silicone sealant was good for everything. What I needed to do was apply silicone sealant between ceramic wall tiles and the stainless steel frame of a shower panel. Through my research, I found out that ordinary silicone sealant will eventually start to rust the metal surfaces through the silicone's acidic composition. To prevent this, you need to use what's called a Neutral Curing Silicone. This type of silicone does not contain any of the acidic qualities ordinary silicone has...This I did not know! Anyway, I found out that the only neutral cure silicone carried within my Local Home Depot store was this. I realize it labeled as Window and Door Caulk however, this will work for my intended purposes. Applies very easily, and Highly Recommended.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Greasy and Won't Cure The product is good when it's brand new. However, after it is stored for a few days after the first usage, the caulk come out liquidy and greasy. After applying it to the windows and doors trims, it did not cure completely and the applied caulk remained soft. I had a few tubes that are having the same issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellant on my RV roof I covered a large area over a seam where water was ponding. I had a leak there as well. I basically troweled it on with a plastic squeegee and it was easily spread like icing a cake. It skinned over quickly but took a couple weeks to actually cure because of the thickness. No problem, it is nice and firm now, adhered very well, and is slightly flexible. All as advertised. Much cheaper than the polyurethane lap sealant typically used on an RV roof, just as easy to apply and cleans up easily. Also, it will be easier to replace if needed in the future. The only drawback is that it seems to retain a film of dirt , but not real bad. I may try cleaning it with some armo8r all.
