Product Overview

The outside of a home is exposed to harsh outdoor elements throughout the year. Extreme heat, the sun's UV rays, and freezing temperatures can cause acrylic and siliconized acrylic caulks to lose flexibility and degrade. GE Silicone II Window and Door is permanently flexible and will not break down so it can protect a home as it settles or as the seasons change and joints expand and contract. This movement can cause degraded acrylic caulk to crack and crumble over time, leaving gaps for air and water to seep through. Those leaks can lead to water damage, mold growth, and higher energy bills. GE Silicone II Window and Door develops strength and adhesion quickly so it can be exposed to water in as little as 30 minutes. Some caulk requires up to 24 hours or longer before it can be exposed to water. For homeowners trying to squeeze home maintenance projects into the weekend or pros who are looking to move on to the next job, GE Silicone II can decrease the waiting time, helping increase convenience, speed, and efficiency. 100% Silicone sealant is widely considered to be the best caulk for sealing areas that will be exposed to water.

Can this be used to reseal glass to metal/aluminum frames for sliding doors and windows that are drafty around glass.

Not house to frame but window frame to glass caulking is needed.
Asked by: NanaRose
I don't see why it couldn't be. That is the reason I bought it and it seems to be doing the job.

I have a lamp with a wooden base that is free hanging there is no support the light fixture is attached to the wood and that is or was attached to a blown globe will the silicone hold the base on?
Asked by: JB
I don't think this silicone will hold the base on. This is window and door caulk. But I am sure that home depot has a product that will fix your problem.

This stuff is exactly what I was looking for - a waterproof, filler for some custom cutting I had to do for ditch lights. I had to trim my windshield plastic rain guards and used this in a caulk gun to fill the voids. Literally rained the night after I applied it and just as promised, was waterproof in 30 minutes doing exactly what I needed. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked Great! I used this silicone caulking to waterproof/seal/glue together two plastic pieces during a project at home. It's working well and it's still holding together several weeks later. I've also used GE bathroom caulking (a similar product, but not the same as this product). I had good results with it. So, GE quality seems reliable, in my experience. I don't find the need for latex caulking anymore. A good quality silicone seems to do a better job in most of my applications.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Caaulk I use this caulk for outdoor applications, and I couldn't be happier. First, being in a tube works so much better than a caulk gun. And finally, being silicone, I know it will last a long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Got the job done I bought this to see if it would stop a leak I was having. I used it to fill a small gap in some weather stripping on a windshield. It filled the gap nicely and with a wet sponge, I was able to clean up the excess easily. After it cured I went through a car wash and it kept the water out. I will be using this for any problems in the future.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Did not cure. Tried 1/2 tube. Never cured 3 days later even though it was used before the date stamped on the tube. I am going to buy another to try. Tube that did not cure was stored unopened for 6 months on shelf in garage. However, the GE Silicone II with XLT white was stored the same way and it has worked fine. Just a problem with this black and it does not say XLT nor paintable on the tube.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great product and worked better than I thought it would! I found that once I read the instructions, this was the best sealer that I have used in a long time. Two thumbs up and highly recommended. A++ Ken A.
